adding black is a bad idea. You just slow the deck down and make it more like 4cc which auto loses to Fae anyway. Esper charm is not the answer, my experience with 4cc showed me that. The red elements of 4cc are way more valuable vs Fae.
The only color I can see adding is red.
Here is where i am going to have to disagree.
When i play Faeries i am more annoyed and lose more games against discard than fallout which is truly the only card that matters when you think red.
Another thing is that 4cc is different than Esper. The way i see it there is no way for 4cc to beat 3cc (esper) either based on speed of mana alone.
Also the possibility of playing Tidehollow Sculler also opens up for more frequent annoyance. t1 thoughtseize t2 Sculler t3 esper charm/vendilion Clique could be good so i need to test that.
@IAmAruban: Do you have a suggested list for Esper?
I think BSA might be the best finisher in the meta.
Has anyone tried splashing some Bolts and Ajanis? It seems with the Fauna Shaman decks becoming more popular, Bolt might be really good.
I actually do have a list i want to try out right now. The manabase needs a bit of work but i don't dare posting a list without having tried it first. if interested you could pm me for the initial draft.
Right now i am having difficulties adding tectonic edges in the manabase. It Sucks to no end already having to cut Spreading Seas in an esper build but for Esper Charms i am willing to try out without them first.
So basically i lose one thing but gain another.
About Baneslayer. I AGREE it might be the best choice right now. Specially for a 3 colour build where 6 mana might be slower than expected. But for now i am sticking to Wurmcoil main for the simple fact that it represents more CA and is removal resistant.
Another thing i am debating on right now is Tidehollow Sculler vs Squadron Hawk. I love Squadron Hawk for being able to create an engine. But if I wanna splash black i think i should think about the posibility of going more disruption and effectively be able to run a package of 2-3 vendilion clique 4 thoughtseize 4 Tidehollow Sculler 4 Esper Charm.
Anyways if there is anyone who would like to help me brainstorm for this project gimme a PM and we'll discuss it. Since this is a UW thread my esper idea should be kept out of this discussion anyways.
Can anyone explain how players are sideboarding with the above sideboard/decklist against faeries?
The list and sideboard is close to the general consensus right now, but I don't know what cards these players are siding in and out.
My best guess is:
+4 Coralhelm Commander
+4 War Priest of Thune
+2 Leyline of Sanctity
+1 Vendillion Clique
-4 Wall of Omens
-2 Day of Judgment
-2 Oblivion Ring
-3 ??
please help if you know.
Maybe 2 Big Jaces and 1 Sun Titan since you want to go "fast" aggro on them.
The Coralhelm Commander tech is good now since it's still new to them. However, if it proves to be good Fae will adapt to it.For now, it's a good way to attack them.same with Baneslayer that is a even bigger problem for them.
I also think Baneslayer could be one or the "one" best finisher in Extende. However she is ALSO the best sideboard strategy against aggro decks.
If we play the angel main, aggro player will bring spells to handle her(Act of Treason per say) and the element of suprise will be lost. On the other hand, if we play her main aggro players usually dont have enough to deal with her first game, so it will be a plus for us.
Basiclly it's a hard choice to have her main or on the board.
Another creature that always shows up on the U/W list is Vendillion Clique.I love the card! but unfortunetly i havent played with it other than on EDH.
Can somebody sum up the Pros and Cons of playing the Clique Main or sideboard?
For what i know about her(not too much on contructed) and in theory, Vendillion Clique should be added in the Main list.I might be wrong, so maybe someone that pplayed with her a lot could clear all this.

Why is coralhelm commander better than something like Stillmoon Cavalier or devout lightcastor? Is it because it comes in under counterspells and is less mana intensive than the cavalier?
In regards to vendillion clique, there should be one or two in the main. They are good against control and decent against aggressive decks. It can be a pseudo plummveil and can act as UW's psuedo thoughtseize. It would be a good call to have three in the 75, and bring one or two in against control.
There are two good times to play the clique: at the end of the opponents draw step and at the end of the opponents turn.
Playing it on the draw step allows you to take something important that you do not want them to play that turn. This is better against aggressive decks since they are more proactive.
You can of course play the clique in combat as a surprise, with the benefit of disrupting their hand.
The best time to play the clique is at the end of their turn. This allows you to see if the way is clear for a big play on your turn. It also means that control will likely not counter it because then they will be tapped out on your turn. It also means that the clique will "have haste" next turn.

I made a UWb list, keeping the shell of UW mostly in tact. The manabase has been tweaked a good deal, but it may still not be there, especially compared to UW. So the matchup against faeries has been improved, at the cost of less smooth land draws, and I am not yet sure if the aggro match up is significantly weakened.
Mots of your defense interacts with Sun Titan really well. It would be a shame to cut it. The decks that do a 2/2 split of Sun Titan and Baneslayer seem to be doing ok.
i my opinion stillmoon is superior, as it is much harder for them to get rid of it. As a side note, stillmoon is annoyoing in the mirror too.
That was my thinking too. However, the only person that I have seen play stillmoon in a top16 deck switched 3 stillmoons and 1 day of judgement out the next day for 2 coralhelms and 2 baneslayer. He placed top8 or top16 both days, but I guess he didn't like the stillmoon cavalier.
At the moment I am using 2 stillmoon and 2 baneslayers in SB.
BS is becoming a must with the rise of popularity of aggro and mid-range decks such as naya.
as far as the other 2 slots are concerned, I think both coral and stillmoon are good in mirror; for fairies it is a matter of tastes, but I am pretty sure it is not for those slots that you get the edge.
combination of leyline and war priest is what wins vs them.
Therefore I think any of the 2 can do
I think it matters more than you can think. The cavalier is awesome against mirros and Faeries have a hard time to deal with him, but the 3cc is a BIG bump on the road. You cant afford to loose tempo against Faeries and even less if you are transforming into a more aggro deck.
Also, they are making the Finks very unconfortable by crowding the 3cc spot.
I think the right call is Coralhelm Commander since it comes a turn earlier, can dodge Mana Leak in som games, It ties your mana little less than Stillmoon, and It deals almost the same(or even more) damage than the Cavalier trough the whole game. Also, It has more synergy if you draw multiples.
The only thing you have to be carefull is when and how much you level him up.This comes with practice i guess. I also agree that if you have Leylines and Priests post-board you have a real options to beat the faerie match up.
Another card that i find interesting on the sideboard(i started testing it yesterday) is Silence.U/W usually wants to play on your own main intead of at the end of opponent's turn like a true control deck...or Faeries. So Silence can force your biggest threats in play.I'd be like a "Thoughtseize" ...since It can make them spend one of their couters or just simple let you resolve whatever you need at the moment. It also seems good against ramp decks...since It's like a virtual timewalk.Just a thought.I have to try it out a little more to see how it does.
The sideboard is preatty crowded right now, so they have to performe very good to actually find a spot for them...maybe 2-3.
Finally, For the people tha is trying to ad black to the deck...It will become very similar to Cruel control...How about Green intead of black???
You gain very good cards like Q. Pridemage, Noble Hiearch, Knight of the Reliquary, Maybe Lotus Cobras, and Elspeth, Knight Errant.
It will be the Bant version of the Naya beat-down, only without the fauna shamman-Vengivine engine.Intead you pack Cryptic Commmands and mana Leak. It's more like a tempo Beatdown deck, kinda like Merfolks....and It has a whole different strategy than Bant-Contription before anybody suggests it.
There's a list that posted good results in one of the MTGO daily or premier events. It was very recent if anybody wants to look for it and attach it here.Sorry, i dont know how to do it.:embarrass:
That is exactly what i said not to suggest on my last post.
It's a Bant deck that dont need a combo to win.It simply wins by out-tempo your opponets and hit very hard in a quick manner.
The two decks have MANY differences
Constiption has more mana dorks and less couters. The fact that you are missing Cryptic Command tells you that your best way to win is by assambing the combo. It's great way to takes game out of nowhere but it can easily be disrupted.Just think about how misserable they felt playing against Red decks that pack tons of instant speed burn.

This is a tempo-aggro deck that can control early rushes, and out-tempo weak strategies(or players) and win races with efficient creatures and not a soft combo. One of the cards that actually created my interest on this deck was Q.Pridemage. The fact that you can have him main is a ig PLUS...and the fact that It can be reanimated by S.Titan is priceless.

Do you feel the pro black offers enough reason to play cavalier, especially as faeries begins to realize that we are going for aggro plan post board and bring in disfigure smother and even consume the meek (not that pro black helps there)?
Or do we have enough weenies post board that losing some here and there don't matter?
I ask because i have yet to test with 4 coralhelms and 4 war priests yet.
Here is another idea for discussion. I recently saw a list with 2 MD runed halo. Does this seem optimal? I know there is always a decent card to call, but is it worth a MD slot?
I was trying to figure out a way to beat fae and I came to this. Splash red and play md Volcanic Fallout, you also get to play Ajani Vengeant, which is really good against Fae as well as the rest of the format right now. What does everyone think of this?
Skullclamp cannot really be considered a best for it was banned upon release. I think the best card/most broken card on that list has to be Bloodbraid Elf. That card was too busted.

The mana is pretty bad.
Anyone have a current list that they want to post? What are people's thoughts: Preordain or Spreading Seas?
Has anyone tried Fieldmist Borderpost + Knight of the White Orchid? Seems interesting.
Also, Chapin mentioned in his last article that he doesn't like Wall of Omens. Thoughts?
What is the best combination of creatures to beat Fae?
War Priest of Thune, Coralhelm Commander, Stillmoon Cavalier, and Cunning Sparkmage (playing some Arid Mesas, Scalding Tarns, and 1 Mountain)?

Don't both w/Ajani Vengeant, he's horrendous in this format right now - Mana Leak, BBelf, not enough impact, Faeries = flash bonanza (ala their threats EOT and kill Ajani before he can tap them down).
This is the mana-base to run Volcanic Fallout, though it's prob. short of 1 original red source;
An extra fetch would assist in +1 red source for Reflecting Pool to double up with, but things are tight and you'd rather not drop below 2 Tectonic Edge.

I also kinda like the idea of Oust against decks like Naya and Mythic.
UW cannot beat FAE, the match up is nearly impossible no matter what you do.
Fae is a natural foil to control decks.
That said if you love this deck that much, then play it. This deck has game against everything else, you may get lucky and not hit it. This is not a bad strategy by any means and you can definitely beat it with tight play and favorable draws.
however, for GP ATL not a good choice.

Yeah basically, otherwise you're pressed to have UUU, RR, and WW while still packing Tec Edges and Colonnade.

That said if you love this deck that much, then play it. This deck has game against everything else, you may get lucky and not hit it. This is not a bad strategy by any means and you can definitely beat it with tight play and favorable draws.
however, for GP ATL not a good choice.
