I splash black but just from murmurring bosk as a 3 of so i can play maelstrom pulse. And the pulses will still get cut because they arent as effective as oblivion ring.

Combo Valakut is better than aggro Valakut. The GP list that looked like a standard list really made me wonder what the hell everyone is doing on the deck design front.
I'd play Wargate like a combo deck. Stop you opponent in the early game, combo off with scapeshift for the kill.
Oracle of Mul Daya is a must. Ponder/See Beyond/Preordain are all must haves. Aside from that, the ramp/counters etc are personal preference. A properly tuned U/G/W list will sweep the U/G and R/G lists.
Hey everyone, i took wargate to a ptq this weekend and decided to give a quick report of the tournament. I don't remember every game but ill describe the ones i do. First, the deck list
No crazy new tech or major changes but i feel the deck is very good.
Ok so the tournament. 8 rounds
Round 1: r/g valakut, Cody
Game 1. We both ramp up but it ends quickly when he scapeshifts with 8 lands and i dont have the counterspell
Game 2. the game goes long with neither of us finding a scapeshift but sticking oracles. Im slowly burning im out and eventually he kills my oracle while he gets up to 6 mountains. i just need one more land to win so i bounce a valakut to the top of my deck with a primal command and pass the turn. He bricks with his oracle and cant kill me. He scoops.
Game 3. Basically the same as game 2 but i use a cryptic command to bounce my land instead.
2-1
1-0
Round 2: rdw, Eric
Game 1. I win the die roll and play a preordain turn 1. something tells hes on aggro so i ship the rampant growth and land i see and draw a firespout. how lucky! He plays a figure and passes. i play an omen and pass. he pumps figure and plays a peeks. i go to 15. i play a valakut and some cantrip. he play a ramgang and i go to 10. on turn 4 i firespout is board. he just has a hellspark and i go to 7. i play explore, land, valakut shooting him for six. he plays some creature but i have a counter he unearths the hellspark, i go to 4. i play a valakut and he goes to 4. he draws and plays a flame javelin but i have the cryptic. next turn i play a land and win
Game 2. He mulls to 4 and when i play a kitchen finks he scoops them up.
2-0
2-0
Round 3: Jund, Kyle
Game 1. he keeps a slow hand and im not sure what hes on bc i just see red and green mana sources. i scapeshift the game away on turn 5.
Game 2. this game he has turn 1 thoughtseize and takes a path? over something else. his only pressure is a fauna shaman while he keeps playing citp lands. i get hit by a blightling a toss a land and something else. i play an omen and he doesn't have the pulse so i win the next turn off sun titan recurring a fetchland
2-0
3-0
Round 4: Naya, Ian
Game 1. Not much happens and i scapeshift the game away on turn 4.
Game 2. This game he has an active shaman to pitch and recur 3 vengevines before i can get anything going.
Game 3. i keep a good hand and burn his board until hes out of gas before burning him out.
2-1
4-0
Round 5: Jund, Jordan
Game 1. He has a slow hand a i burn him out with some wargates.
Game 2. He was a turn 2 leech and then a finks but i scapeshift before he kills me.
2-0
5-0
Round 6: Faeries, ?
Game 1. We both play draw, go for a while but he has a spellstutter to beat me with. i try to go for some spells and we just trade a bunch cryptics. eventually he plays a mistbind and die.
Game 2. another long game but this time i land an omen and am slowly burning him out until he tec edges my lone valakut and plays a jace to leave a bunch of lands on top. lose.
0-2
5-1
Round 7: rug, Alex
Game 1. the game goes long and eventually i get to a position to burn him out in a couple turns but he plays a wormcoil and it runs away with the game.
Game 2. i mull to 4 and think i have no chance but i draw nothing but gas and path his wormcoil before i scapeshift the game away.
Game 3. as we start this game a judge comes over and says there's 3 min left in the round. we play quickly and i have a good hand but time is called before i can win. on turn 2 of extra turns i go for a scapeshift but he has the cryptic. at this point he has no board and we both know he cant win the game. i pass the turn and draws a card and passes back. at this point i have 2 cards in hand, one is a scapeshift and i think the other was a cryptic. i have to go for the win and play scapeshift but he has another cryptic. draw. in hindsight it was probably wrong to go for the first scapeshift bc if he only had 3 blue sources than i can go to cryptic on the end of his turn bouncing one of his blue sources or forcing him to tap out for a counter letting me safely scapeshift the next turn. but i didnt think of that at he time and dont know whether he only had 3 blue sources. oh well
1-1-1
5-1-1
Round 8: faeries, Will
Game 1. He doesnt have much action and i run him out of counterspells before wargate takes the game.
Game 2. this game he has everything and i quickly die to a horde of faeries.
Game 3. I'm slowly get beat down by tokens but he taps out bunch of times and i just cant find a scapeshift. i have an active valakut but need to use the triggers to keep myself alive. he has 2 glen elendra archmages on the board but i can still draw a scapeshift and win bc i can remove them before i go for it. my deck doesnt deliver and i draw nothing but land until my valakut gets tec edged away. lose
1-2
5-2-1
So after starting the day 5-0 and being in top 8 contention the whole day i just can't get the last win i need. it was very disappointing to say the least. i stayed focused all day but both my faeries opponents boarded into the 4 tec edge plan against me and its just miserable. against every deck but faeries i felt like the deck just couldnt lose. although i did quite lucky against my mono red opponent. i end up 19th out of 146 and get 6 packs for my troubles.

Was your PTQ in los angeles? I was thinking about going to that one if it was.
If it is do you know where one can find the top decklists from that PTQ?
[QUOTE=sauceman565;/comments/3969662]Hey everyone, i took wargate to a ptq this weekend....
This exactly is why I'm afraid of running Wargate at my upcoming PTQs. TecEdge is so very very good against the Valakut plan - and once that fails, you have almost no way of winning the game.
Did you feel that 6 counterspells were too few? I mean, you have to protect a lot of stuff...
I'm just curious
some games i wished i had another mana leak and i think its fine to add one but as of now i havent thought of anything to take out.
Because, while UG is faster, Wargate is more resilient to hate.
That was kind of my point. I was sarcastic lol. Because that one guy above said that Wargate is a.waste of time and not competitive. Because a few scapeshift decks got top 8.seriously people are dumb
ok, leyline of sanctity is nuts. i dont see why you guys are hating on it. it turns off 8-12 cards at least in both the fairies and red, never mind any deck trying to win with valakut. the only thing its not effective against is tier 1.5 decks like elves or white weenie. besides, a few main board day of judgements crush aggro. i think maindeck leylines is the way to go.

Yeah seriously.why are we even wasting our time. U/g is so much better than Wargate.you can clearly see the difference in power.
