Cruel Control is a good deck no doubt, but does anybody else think Planeswalker control (ala superfriends in past standard) could be an even better control deck? I like Cruel, but it no doubt has a few glaring weaknesses in it.
In any case, Superfriends wrecked Jund during it's time period, and that was without mana leak & cryptic command. Best part about it, is that it's not dependent on dropping a 7 mana spell in order to win (which gives a HUGE advantage in the control vs. control matchup).
Furthermore, the landbase is really easy with vivid and filter lands, and the deck can entirely play fallout, Spreading Seas, Fulminator Mage, Ajani Vengeant, Bolts, Elspeth, Jace, and Gideon.
When you add Cryptic into that mix (would probably only be a 2-3 of since there are so many other 4 drops) it just seems like it would be rather unfair.
Just an idea for a shell
4 spell Pierce
4 Mana Leak
3 Cryptic
3 fallout, 4 path, 4 wall of omens
then a mix of Jace, Gideon, Ajani Vengeant, and Elspeth 1.0
Just seems like it would be hard to beat for any deck in the format.

I don't even know that gideon is necessary in this type of deck. The others all seem stronger, and that would leave spots for day of judgement as an additional sweeper.
I tested this deck for a little while, and the results were somewhat impressive, but I'm not convinced that this deck is better than cruel control. Cruel control gained mana leak as well, and has access to some stronger spells. And their 7 mana finisher wins games on its own, vs your need of 2 or 3 4-5 mana planeswalkers. Also, most decks are running pulse and O-ring right now, so your planeswalkers may not be very valuable.
I loaded this up on workstation, and I actually wanted to try adding a devastating 7 mana spell to this deck too. The only difference of course is that there is no black in here, so I wanted to give Destructive Force a try. With all the planeswalkers, it's really impressive in here, and finishes the game vs. just about any deck assuming you have some semblance of board position.
I kind of agree about Gideon, he's probably not necessary, although it IS necessary to have some sort of way to finish off an opponent.
The spell Pierces ruin Cruel in the control vs. control matchup. That, and Ajani is really hard on them.

I'd presume that jace 2.0 is quite good at ending a game as a finisher all on it's lonesome, especially if either of the other planeswalkers get a chance to ultimate off (ajani v blowing up a control mana base is quite obnoxious, in my opinion)
No doubt, although keep in mind, O-Ring and Maelstrom pulse as has been mentioned are loaming in the shadows currently, so trying to get off his ultimate isn't always the best idea unless an opponent is in topdeck mode.

I tried it, and it can struggle against Fae and Jund, at least pre-board.
Vs. Jund? This deck was one of Jund's hardest matchups when it was in standard, and Jund isn't exactly all that different now than it was in standard. I can see Fae, although Fallout should help that.

Jund has adapted, and with Boggart Ram-Gang + Demigod/Vengevine it is much faster than it ever was in Standard, and far more resilient without the awkward mana either.

To me it sounds like 5color would just be better. With a planeswalker deck your tapping out a lot for each one. And a deck with cryptic should be a 4 of no question. What you could do is use the 5color manabase and just use cruel. Against other control decks though I think it would be really rough against fae and 5 color would depend on landing awkward planeswalkers. On the plus side you can recover quicker from cruel.

This format is still developing, so my snap-answer to any "Is X viable?" question is, "Go try it."
Go try it.
