don't attack into removal if you want to win with scapeshift then
its not like i intentionally attack into removal....if i know my opponent has removal, i'm not going to attack with it, but most of the time your opponent doesn't show you their lightning bolt.
i think i'm going to try cutting my 2 villages for an oran reif and another forest...

So I played this deck for the first time this past weekend(the stock list, all 4-ofs, 3 Jitte, 25 land), and went a dismal 4-4. I made some play mistakes that ultimately were caused by my inexperience with the deck and my overall playskill, but I still like the deck and am willing to give it another go next saturday for my last PTQ of this season. My SB from the PTQ was this:
I didnt bring in the Dead/Gone all day, and in hindsight am going to replace them for this weekend. I probably want to play either Extirpate, Cranial Extraction, or Thought Hemmorhage. I am not sure which one is the best against our worst matchups, and wether or not it should be a 4-of, along with the other 4-ofs in my SB. Can anyone give me a really good SB that covers our bad matchups?

dead//gones are basically strictlyfor the Dark depths and sometimes AIR match up. if you didn't face those deck, it wouldn't be surprising that you never used them. you should still keep them in as at least 3 since the deck has no flyings to stop a marit leige.
blood moon really is bad for this deck because playing it makes this dck a bad RG agro deck since it shuts off your auto win.
my side board basically goes:
Tormod's crypt - Dredge, thopters, living end rogue/combo decks that use the grave alot
Vexing shusher - Faeries, thopter, teachings, Scapeshift, other counter heavy decks
chalice - zoo, Burn, elves, hyergenisis, living end
dead//gone - All in red, Dark depths
Avenger - my anti hate card. bsiaclly, withg the normal ramp to 7 lands, he comes down along with 7 plant tokens. then when i play lands or scapeshift, i get an army of large plants to attack with. this gets around blood moon, shadow of doubt or other things that neutralize scapeshift and partially shut off the deck.
the SB takes care of every thing besides bant, doran and affinity, all of which you can most likely race.
my sideboard is a bit out of the ordinary as most people use the black splash stuff but i personally like it.

Well what I did, at least against Conley Bant, was take out the Scapeshifts for Blood Moons and just go aggro plan, because decks like that which have such an unstable manabase cant beat a resolved Blood Moon. It also shuts down Dark Depths and Academy Ruins, but thats just my 2 cents.

I realized Damping Matrix isnt really needed, because the only way DDT can beat us without a counter is to stick a t2 or 3 20/20, so Dead/Gone is enough to stop that. And its also randomly good against Hypergen and All in Red. Chalice is for Elves and the cascade combo decks, Blood Moon is for any deck with a greedy manabase, and TH is for non cascade combo decks. I am just not sure what to take out in the relevant matchups. What do you guys usually take out?

Hi everyone, new to extended here, I mostly play legacy.
Looking to build a combo deck, as I'm mostly tired of tempo, control and aggro, outside legacy and vintage. Standard doesn't seem to have much combo decks of interest. At the same time, as my friends play extended casual and standard casual, extended is probably the middle ground with all of them.
However, I'm still confused between the difference between scapeshift and cascadeshift, i.e. deck characteristics (the only difference I see is bloodbraid elves, and maybe one is more aggro and the other is more controlish?), MU etc.
I tried searching on deck check but it doesn't seem to really help, in fact it confuses me further.
For example, this is cascadeshift right? (or could someone give me a more correct and current/successful variant so that I can compare.)
the main difference between scapeshift.dec and cascade/aggroshift is that scape shift, which is a UG deck splashing red for enough mountains and valakut, focusing on controling the game and ramping into 8 lands and casting valakut.
aggroshift/cascadeshift is a GR deck that focuses on an aggresive attacking plan and slight ramp with an instant win scapeshift to back it up.
blood moon doesn't kill this deck because the agro plan can still win the game.
for your list, i would suggests adding tarmogoyfs. maybe for a harmonize or two and wood elf or two.
basically, the stock list on the front page is pretty good
well, i scrambled to finish my deck togetehr for yesterday but fell a tiny bit short so i ended up with this list:
Game 1: i kept a hand of Search fro tommorow, BBE, STE scapeshift, Forest, mountain, grove.
T1, search, T2, STE, T3 BBE got punishing fire and just completely steam rolled him without scapeshift.
sideboard: -2 dead//gone,-1 wood elves +3 vexing shusher.
game 2: turn 1, search, then turn 2 shusher. shusher got smothered, and my search mana drained. i was able to get out 2 kirds apes through his spellsnares but he got out a bitterblossom with two sword of the meeks in grave and stalled while i waited fro scape shift. i got scape shift but he pinged another shusher and then countered it. he beat me to death with flyings.
Game 3: i had a start that in cluded 3 kirds apes in the first 2 tuns and brought his life down to three before he pulled out a thopter foundry with sword of the mee and gianed it all back before beating me to death with thopters.
1-2
looking back, when i saw the swords game 2, i should have sided in crypts as well as the fact that i should have played ancient grudges in the sideboard to begin with. faeries andthopters make for a brutal set of control....
0-1
Game 1: i had a nice agro start> kird ape, STE, finks bbe followed by a turn 4 hive mind into 2 pact of the titans...
sieboard:....?um...what
Game 2: i just steam rolled him down to 7 before scape shifting the last points of damage
game 3: he just gotout hivemind the turn before the lethal scapeshift...fml
1-2
honestly, this was my least favorite match the entire day. i just had no chance against it...i got lucky game 2 when he had to keep digging for hive mind
0-2...not the best start to the day
Game 1: search for tomorrow, kird ape, bolt, BBE and 4 lands. keep able hand. hit BBE turn three hitting finks, block a few times while sacing elders and got 7 lands. he had gone down to 15 from lands so scapeshift killed him.
sideboard: 1 avenger of zendikar, 3 chalice of the void < 2 dead gone, 2 wood elves.
game 2: chalice for 1 on turn two, not getting a chance to bolt his kird ape first. he drops goyf and i drop a few things. he gets out meddling mage targeting scapeshift i lose do to his shear agro. he shows me a hand of 3 nacatls and 2 PtE
sideboard: -4 bolt +4 dead//gone
game 3: he magesmy scapeshift turn two, i hit chalice turn two. i gone his ape and keep droping lands while geting beaten by a meddling mage. i drop finks gaining life before he tribal flames me. i bring back P fire with grove and burn his mage before firing scapeshift at him.
2-1
finally a good matchup
1-2
game 1: he thought siezes my scapeshift T1 and starts the gmae at 15. i get Pfire tech up and running quickly and ping off his small dudes. i block doran a bit with STE before goning him then scaping before he can kill me.
sideboard: unessasary
game 2: similar to last game. he scullers my scapeshift and i just kep droping lands as he beats me. i kill sculler bringing back scapeshift and win.
2-0
almost as good a match as zoo
2-2
Game 1: i couldnt tell what he was playing as he just played lands and passed till he hard casted a simian guide. he died quickly to BBE and kird apes.
Game 2: he hyperenisised t2 and droped progen, and shakamira copying it. ithought i would win since i droped 6 lands/fetchers into play with scapeshift in hand and 1 land out. he drop akroma's memorial....
Sideboard: 3 chalice of the void
Game 3: never saw chalice. he hypergenisised throwing angel of dispair and progen screwing over my win the next turn by killing my land.
1-2
damn only having 3 chalice....and my own stupidity for not using them game 2.
2-3
Game 1: we both shocked our selves t1, thenraced to 7 lands. thanks to a well timed remand, he won the race...
sideboard: 3 vexing shuher < 2 dead//gone 1 finks
game 2: instead of racing him, i abandoned ramp and went strait for the throat throwing all of my beaters at him all my burn while he tryed to race me to 8 lands(i dint shock myself this time) i beat him in 4 turns.(ape, ste>bbe t3 into bolt, and bbe into lightning bolt t4.
game 3: he played more control and i never saw shusher. he kept countering stuff and killed me with scapeshift.
1-2
2-4
i got a bye last round since the judges accidentally dropped a personthey weren't supposed too..it was another zoo match up so...
afterwards i played my brother's GW elf combo deck and rolled over it burning his small elves while quickly getting to 7 lands. think the total of our games was 6-2
Changes i would make to my list:
+1 grove(obivous reasons
+1 forest
-2 oran-reif>the time walk was unessasary and i hate loosing the first turn because i dont have the first turn green source.
Sideboard
-1 Fallout
-2 avenger
-1 crypt
+2 Rmapaging Baloths
+2 krosan grip
overall my preformance was a bit underwelming but there weren't any matches were i got totally blowed out and had no wins whatsoever. too ad there no credit for winning one game in the match....this deck can definitly compete though.

Does anyone have any super secret tech against Thopter Depths short of a 15 card sideboard plan? It seems to be everywhere in my meta and if possible I would like to continue playing this deck, but having such a bad matchup against Thopter Depths is making me think otherwise.

P.S. Is Kavu Predator horrible?
You can play a Vesuva main, and Scapeshift tutor it out to destroy a Dark Depths if its out on the field without a Hexmage. Plus it hoses a bunch of other Legendary lands, or copies a dual land etc. Its just a lot of utility.
Dead/Gone works pretty well main. Plus you can also hopefully Cascade into a Boom/Bust before they have anything on board and just blow up all the lands or just their Depths or Urborg for two if you can't cascade. Plus if they don't have land they can't really activate Thopter Foundry multiple times per turn if they have it out.
Kavu Predator is probably smaller on average than Vinelasher Kudzu for you (Scapeshift and ramp can make that big!), which is probably smaller on average than Tarmogoyf

I've been trying to find a good 2-drop too...

I was playing a draft match, and I had a Serra Angel out. I went to swing with it, and by accident made the motion to tap it. The other player untapped it and said:
"I know you want to tap that, but she's a respectable gal with vigilance."
@Diamond_dog: try removing the incinerates for at least searing blazes or any similar burn spell or ramp in the form of sylvan ranger coming in from M11 or farhaven elf?, Xth ed will also rotate out when scars come in.
I like the manabase, is it possible we could fill in some raging ravines?
I like the deck very much, it's the only deck i got surviving after this rotation.... (besides blightning demigod.. )
i dont think that that would leave enough mountains in the deck to play jund.
to put three colors in a deck without dual lands and run 8-10 mountains and 2 valakuts i dont think there would be space in the mana base without runing like 27 lands or something. but i could be wrong...
