Well I'm a cephalid Breakfast PLayer myself so Oviously I don't realy have any place bieng in this thread but I wanted to say that this deck is better then Cephalid Breakfast I just find CB more fun also the only actual hate for this deck is False Cure so its pretty solid also what about adding 2 about face as win conditions as well as citys of Brass
This is the deck Im the least worried about during the extended season.
Hey, Grand Prix Boston called - the 3 spots that Life took up wish you the best of luck during the Extended Season.
Anyways, moving on -
How obvious is the BW version? I think from what I saw early in testing (this was also months and months ago), its the exact opposite of the GW Life - good against Combo, much better then its cousin against any deck that can itself go infinite, since usually they go infinite the turn before you are set to put the game away.
I still believe strongly the GW version is the strongest in the field however, because I think the field is still heavy aggro oriented, although might shift with essentially 2 aggro decks in the top 8.
This is what I love about the Extended environment, its still completely open and rewards people who metagame well.
Morita's version is something that I was kind of thinking about going to as well, considering how utterly frustrated I have been getting with Enlightened Tutor. Except, I think he's got the version ALMOST perfectly dead on with the fact he runs the utility creatures main, but I think his "utility" creatures are weaker then they need to be. No Eternal Witness bugs me, and the Wall of Blossoms I think could be a Genesis very easily since the Wall seems random.
I tried to add About Face to the deck, because it's a big suprise for your opponent...I attack you with the Task Force! Block? No,no...OK->About Face on it,you lose:) It is also good with Starlit Sanctum. But the question is what to take out...?
I played a guy on Day 1 of Boston who had About Face in his deck. He'd already gained a million life, so when he started making another guy really fat, I wondered what he was doing (he had no lands in play that specifically made Red mana). Then he tapped a City, played About Face, and threw that fat man at me. :-( But I won games 2 and 3 because our deck had a very good matchup vs. Life. A lot of people are sleeping on About Face (I sure was), so it could definitely get you some surprise wins.
Anyone seen the guy that made top 8 in a PTQ with Zur's Weirding in the sideboard? I think that's a pretty good card against decks like the Rock (which is a baaad matchup for this deck); making sure they won't get into the position of recurring cranial extraction...
the stronghold would be better IMO....
1. its a land meaning no counters....
2. you could keep a sb spot for it and wish for it if you so desired
3. it isn't an artifact meaning that it wont get hit by much artifact removal thats possibly running around for decks like affinity
zurs weirding is an interesting choice... I'll look into it a bit, but I really think the combo should be the main focus.
i played in a tournament on fridcay. i played affintiy to a sedond place finish. vial lis broken i wonws many games son th3e poever oif it.
Unless i am mistaken Oxidize, V Shaman and E Witness are showing up in just as many decks and warping the metagame as much as Affinity. They should just ban all of Mirrodin block. Onslaught was always the best block ever. I had a U/W Cleric wizard deck that couldnt be beat.
what do you guys think about the black build of life vs the typical green white version? I like the fact that it gets rid of a lot of the deck's problems, but I'm afraid that getting rid of green would take away from consistancy...what are your guys' thoughts?

Disclaimer: I don't know if this has been thought about. I'm not that familiar with extended...
But this is what I thought of:
Use RED...add About Face and Fling (haven't figured out how to add card tags..)
so basically use make one of your clerics get a big behind, About Face it (switch power and toughness) and Fling it at you opponents face...
Admittedly you'll have to have to instants in you hand while you set up...
Mana would be as bad or worse as the W/B build...
but it's different!
The problems with this are that you would need to generate :symr::symr: in a single turn, add two cards to the deck that don't contribute towards setting up the combo, and the fact that if you manage to About Face a Cleric, you can use the Black ability of Starlit Sanctum to finish off your opponent.
4 Aether Vial
3 Duress
4 Cabal Therapy
4 Living Wish
4 Vampiric Tutor
4 Worthy Cause
2 About Face
1 Unspeakable Symbol
1 Fling
1 Altar of Dementia
Sideboard
2 Guilded Drake

? Kami of Ancient Law
? Meddling Mage
1 Nomads En-Kor
1 Daru Spiritualist
1 Sunlit Sanctum
1 Wall of Blood
? ??? (Really have not been testing post-boarded much)
Pre-Boarding, it does pretty good against Reanimator and CephilidBreakfast. I am new to "life", so I may be putting too many cards into the win condition. Will probably remove Fling and maybe the SB wall of blood. The Wall just speeds up wins post-infinite, and I'm not sure if that will be needed. I really like the Altar.
aether vial is a key card for life not only in extended but type one. i have a friend that plays life in any tourney its legal and against my oath or tog deck, a first turn vial can sometimes mean scoop. I've also seen him play on one land and actually win a game using only the vial and worthy cause. I find it hard not to play vial in any aggro/(deck with more than 12 creatures) its that good (in most cases).

I completely agree that vial does wonders for this deck and should be MD 4 of... after extensive testing I've seen the wonders it can do for this deck. In its worst case all it does is take the heat off of your combo, and/or win condition. In the best scenario it allows you to play your creatures out as instants and enables you to go off on turn 3 with the threat of vialing you rector into play soon after for the win.

main parts of the combo are the Enkors with pump ups to task force and spiritualist then sack with sanctum or worthy cause.
So you lose all of the enkors, half of the pump ups and another half of the sackers.
Basically to do the infinite target trick you can use Shuko and lightning grieves(need two creatures in play), you still have spirtulist (which is good, he definitly better than task force), and you still have the sanctum which is the better of the two IMO.
You still have the green tutors in eldamaris call and living wish.
The deck loses alot of consistency with the rotation. Maybe the wierd ceph-life hybrid would do a little bit better post rotation, switching reanimate to something like Stich Together.

I used to write for MTGS, including Cranial Insertion and cube articles. Good on you if you can find those after the upgrade.

sorry for double posting...but I just realised: if you Fling a Fat cleric..then the deck wouldn't be called Life anymore!! ahahaha...
I would probably call it: Dive Bombers or staying with the japanese theme ....Kamikazi!!
ahahaha
