When u said win con, I believe u meant the Sensei Tops instead of Brain Freeze, am I right? Since a well informed player would bombard his spells towards the Tops instead of Brain Freeze. I doubt there's any other way to combo other than the Locket Top combo. Mind's Desire doesn't work that well here without accelerants except Lotus Bloom.
As for Extirpate, before u combo off by dropping ur Top into the GY, set up a random 1cc card on top to counter Extirpate in response to Intuition's activated ability, with Counterbalance in play. Then safely combo off. Or EOT Wish for Gigadrowse to tap him out.
Tested today against Nevermind Heartbeat and it did very well, comboing off Turns 4-5 average. Even when I got desperate, I cast a string of draw spells and the next Top looked into a Brain Freeze to draw from the infinite Top loop. Stifle is settled by a BalanceTop and when comboing off, the Top sits on top to counter Stifle.
Against aggro, it's a race and who goldfishes earliest wins. Post SB we'll bring in the Steel Walls to hold the fort. An additional EE would do great too. I found one card rather useless in this deck, that is Lotus Bloom. It MUST be a turn 1 drop or it's useless later in the game, when Turn 2 onwards I rather use it as Intuition fodder. Whereas, what I felt was so damn impt are actual lands. From no board position, it's easy to get the entire combo out PLUS mana to Brain Freeze if u have 6-7 lands on the table.
Any experienced pilot feels that Lotus Bloom is vital? Maybe I'm missing out some applications on this card. Pls advise me on this card, whether if it's to support this card, or help me with other good tutor/artifact choices to replace the Blooms. Maybe up a land or 2 then add in 1 or 2 utility artifacts. (Crypt, extra EE?)
I might be wrong, but what about myr retrievers as an extra stormer?
2 lockets, 1 myr retriever in da grave OR 2 myrs on the grave and a locket.
Same as a SDT, and Extirpate wont be that "owner".
Problem is, Myrs retrievers can't be fetched with Artificer's Intuition. That's not a bad idea though, it could give some more consistency for the deck.
As a side note, this deck is perfect for lotus bloom. U can cast it early or discard it to Intuition later. Very nice.
Now, to the splash.
B give confidant (with the low curve this is the nuts), duress, scrying, creature killing.
R give fire/ice, and pyrostatic pillar.
W give renewed faith (great against aggro), creature removal, orim's chant against combo... (golden wish, why u don't cost 1WW?)
G give accelleration (most notably elder), stalling (moment's peace), and... gaea's blessing lol.
I think that Ub should be the way to go, with duress and maybe confidant in main.
Well I think its high time this deck gets the revival goin. I think That Cloud Key add pretty much what the doctor ordered but I'm throwing some of my own twists on the deck.
Obviously not the best build but Cloud Key adds something that could revive the deck. Cloud Key (naming artifact which makes all your artifact spells cost one less)+ 2 SDT= DRAW CARDS!. The Future sight can also work as well too.
Yeah, this deck is kinda sketchy... but that's the fun part. I'm not a *good* PTQ player; I'm lucky to get 2 wins before I drop... mostly because my area (Toronto) is EXTREMELY competitive. I took my own build of this deck to my area PTQ and went 2-3 drop, which should have been 3-2 if I didn't make a play error in game 3 against TnN in round 5. Shoulda, coulda, woulda. My other 2 losses came to the eventual winner and the Ontario champs... well, champ. So to me, this was a very good result and probably could have been better in the hands of a more skilled player.
Anyway, the build I took was more of a control deck with a combo kill, since my testing showed that "balls to the wall" is not the way for this deck to go. This not a fast combo, and as mentioned *can* be easily hated out. I splashed green for stuff like Moment's Peace and Loam.
That being said, to all the "Extirpate beats this deck, derf" ppl out there: green also adds Ground Seal and the techy Research//Development. White adds Meddling Mage. Staying in MU, you can play Counterbalance and just make sure you have a Top on top when you pitch Top. In my limited experience with the deck, this deck can take the control-combo role very easily, can be very resilient to hate, and just win at its leisure while creating a soft lock with CB.
well I kinda just wanted to throw the idea out there again and yeah the Locket is a bit redundant but its just for fun. So IF I take out the locket I might as well take out the Intuitions b/c Mage finds the Top and so does another top. but yeah opening up 16 slots seems like green is a good idea. Not to mention Ground seal ruins some other decks or atleast throws off their abilities to play well.
i think if it was a u/b build psychatog could easily fit in to help with the locket combo and sleight aggro and yes disruption could be easily used as well, i'm thinking rewind would be a good fit in here as well, with 2 in the yard and locket out it becomes a better counterspell :), i think the deck is pretty good it just needs some minor fixing up
