Anamnesis is a bit of both I guess, but in favor of metalcore. But it sounds nice nevetheless. Know more good songs of 'em?
Yes I do. This one is my favorite off that album: Seize the Day. The intro track, Illusions, is pretty good too (it leads into the first one I linked, Myth of Ideal), and Track Slavery is one of their more technical songs that's pretty nice too. I'd say those are the top four songs on the album but the whole thing is generally quite good, at least a 3.5/5. Although its a bit on the generic side, they play quite well and the album has its moments. If you like those songs you might consider picking it up.
By the way, I think that was you who talked about Swallow the Sun on the top albums thread. Great pick, I'm enjoying it.
Here's a couple bands that I really like that haven't been mentioned yet. I would put them both under MDM but they also have some other influences as well.
Eluveitie: Inis Mona, Primodial Breath
Barren Earth: Curse of the Red River, Our Twilight
Also, just for kicks, give this song a shot and see what you think.
Bolt Thrower - The Killchain
Normally can't get into much folk metal but Eluveitie is sounding good so far, and Barren Earth is pretty damn nice, thanks.
After reading the comments on the Hacride video, it really does remind me of Gojira.
Yea, I agree with what someone said: "in a way that's not ripping off but sounds similar".
I'm slowly going through everything people have suggested, and I'm loving it. I'd like to request any songs or bands that typically play prominently with obscure instruments. Obscure in this case being anything not typically found in a metal band (ie. violin, cello, organ, piano, bag pipes (o.o) etc).
Examples: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ktEFOpny0S0 -Dethklok- Dethharmonic (probably one of my favorite Dethklok songs)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pE1cAuqjisM - Life in Your Way - Fall (not so much obscure instrument, but I like the guitar and the switch to actual singing as well. Sorry for bad quality. I think they're a small local band.)
USakashima the Imposter: CloneTheft.dec UWIsperia, Supreme Judge: Attack Me I Dare You GBWKarador, Ghost Chieftan: ETB Recursion GBWGhave, Guru of Spores: Infinite Win GMultaani, Maro-Sorcerer: Hug Beats

That second one isn't even death metal tbh, it sounded like post-hardcore... maybe metalcore (although I stopped listening kinda soon cause it was really low quality lol)
Yea, I'm really a fan of more classical instruments in metal (or pretty much anything really), especially piano and violin.
Adding Nemirie and Leviathan (although I think there are two different bands of the name...this isn't the well known one, if so).
Damnit, that leviathan song still reminds me of castlevania...

Yea, I knew it wasn't death metal, but it kind of tells you that I really don't know much about metal at all. I enjoy it, but I have trouble listening to real death metal. Needs to be melodic or I just shrug it off and listen to something else.

Will do. In fact, here are a more I found just tonight that I'm really loving so far: Mercenary (although calling it death metal is admittedly a little bit of stretch), Hypocrisy and Deadlock.
Yea, I go out and try to find new bands pretty much every day, so I might be posting in here a lot if it stays alive.

Hypocrisy actually came to Chicago almost a year ago, I was happy to get to see them. I got my picture taken with Peter and the whole band signed a poster for me, so frikn awesome. I would go see them again in a heart beat, it's too bad all the good metal comes from overseas.
Funny side bar: One of the guys that went with had is picture taken with Peter too, except in his, he's looking a Peter "junk" (they were sitting). It's one of the funnier pictures I have seen. I felt kinda bad though, because it's the only one he got and it's not everyday you get to meet such a good band.
I've heard mixed things about Nightrage, lots of people saying they're kind of boring. From what I've heard (admittedly not much) I kind of agree.
Could you post the name of a good song of theirs?
Also, if anyone enjoyed Hacride before, Perturbed is more fitting to the tastes of most of us in here. Same with Deprived of Soul, Strength, and My Enemy.
Edit: And I can't believe I haven't linked Dawn of Tears yet. Totally forgot.
Two more bands, The Eyes of a Traitor... I guess I'd call metalcore but it's definitely melodic and somewhat Gothenburg-esque.
And also Textures. I'm cheating because I don't really consider it death at all, but its polyrythmic metal (and a few us in this thread seem to really like that so whatever) and the best I could describe it as is a less extreme Meshuggah. That's probably my favorite album of 2008, at least based on how often I listen to any random album from start to finish. Maybe my favorite song from that year, too.

Check out Razor of Occam. They are more like Blackened Thrash Metal but they def have some sick ass melodic riffs. They aren't very well known and you cant find many links on youtube but I suggest you jam out to Pattern on the Stone and Alter of Corruption. I think you can find Alter of Corruption on youtube but Pattern on the Stone you would have to look for. Their only album as far as I know is Homage to Martyrs and I strongly suggest picking it up
The album cover sucks big time, where the music does not ^^
The intro is most memorable, though.
Has anyone heard the new albums from Amon Amarth or The Haunted? I've picked up the new Haunted album today (plus Revolver and their live DVD Roadkill, which I didn't own yet), and I'll get Amons newest on the 25th when it comes out.
The Haunted seems to vary their releases with an experimental one after a thrashy one. Versus was very loud and thrashy, where The Unseen (the new one) is very experimental, and a lot more clean. But I gotta say I love this new record. Imo it succesfully combines groove, thrash, alternative and death in one album. Very interesting for the open-minded metallers. Don't bother for those who like their metal loud and uncompromising. Great tracks are Motionless (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4YS4Z05nrfs) and Them (couldn't find on youtube yet, but it's on grooveshark).
Anyone else about these albums?
I've heard Amon Amarth's new album. It is pretty damn sick...like, really sick. Amon Amarth is a band where every album just so happens to be better than the one before it. Which is quite a feat

There are actually like 2-3 more songs on that album I like more, but can't find on youtube \=
If you can find Doctor Skeleton anywhere that's probably my favorite of theirs. It's a good album (Concerto For the Undead), if you like that song I put you'd probably like the whole thing. Just off the top of my head, "...And They Died Happily Ever After" is another good song of theirs that I don't think I tried to find (just did and can't).
Oh, and btw, I know you appreciate good metalcore so here is the best I've ever heard (just found it recently): The Sorrow. Their first album (The Sorrow) is incredible, the other 2 after it are pretty nice too but not quite as good.
I've tried most of the new Amon Amarth but I just can't get too into AA. I like them but I'd just rather listen to other stuff.

Sounds interesting. I like the vocals.
@Fenwick: Yea, I would... although they've got some thrash or something in there.

I agree that since The Avenger their albums have gone up in quality (Not that any I'd say any individual album is bad by any means). I really think their first, Once Sent From the Golden Hall, remains the best album they've ever released. Victorious March is quite possibly the best single track they've ever written. The other tracks, most notably: Ride for Vengeance, Without Fear, Friends of the Suncross and Amon Amarth aren't too shabby either

I don't listen to much MDM anymore, my tastes are tending towards black metal and death metal these days. The biggest exception are Insomnium, who I think are far and away the greatest MDM band to ever grace our planet
and are my favorite band of all time (Realistically, it's a tie between them, Enslaved and Agalloch).
My favorite MDM:
Insomnium
Dark Tranquillity
In Flames
At The Gates
Omnium Gatherum
Solution .45
Scar Symmetry
Dark Lunacy
Amon Amarth
Soilwork
Disarmonia Mundi
Lots of great bands named here. Amon Amarth, In Flames, Soilwork. I love The Panic Broadcast - Soilwork's last album. Havent heard the new AA but im lookin forward to it.

Anyway, time for two new bands: Sorae and Deviant Syndrome.
Noone liked The Paradox Unseen? I really think they have potential, especially when they're making an unsigned debut that sounds like this.
