I guess the people making heavy versions of light songs are the flip side of people making lighter versions of heavier songs. (I haven't listened to Richard Cheese, but I do likes me some Vitamin String Quartet)
One of my favorite bands is Me First and The Gimme Gimmes. They are a punk "supergroup" they only do covers and each of their cds has a theme such as country songs and R&B songs (I believe I can fly is especially good). My personal favorite thing about them is that they have a live cd that was recorded at a batmitzvah. They do some great covers if you are into the pop-punk genre.
This was really bad. Metal should never be lyrically focused, and should focus on the music. This just has "generic metal riff" on repeat with some guy pretending to be Nathan Explosion. TMM gave a better example since it actually follows the music of Tik Tok instead of using their own.
Covers in general can be great, but only if the band takes the sheet music and makes it their own.
those two links pleasantly reminded me of what the bliix guy does (he sets the original vocals to rock/metal instrumentation instead of a full cover)
It felt slightly weird to hear that metal guy singing the repetitive pop chorus of Umbrella, but other than that his cover seems ace.
Good job to the guys who did the Bad Romance cover, even though it's not my personal favorite style.
I loaded it up awhile ago, but as I actually went to play it, a different cover of Bad Romance (by 30 Seconds To Mars) came up on my media library shuffler. LOL.
Another LOL.
If I go to a show and unexpectedly hear a cover of a pop song I know, I'll sing along even if I'm one of the few who knows it.
I did do this when Shael Riley And The Double Ice Backfire played their chiptune arrangement of Poker Face. (Poker Face, at 4.2 times, is actually the single song I've most often heard played live.)
I believe that I have enough social competence to slip into a party or two, potentially wooing some attractive females that would not mind spending the evening performing the booty dance on me.
And of course, some aren't so good... like Don't Stop Believin, or their cover of Billy Idol's rebel yell, which they made incredibly slow and strange.
Also, apparently Children of Bodom did a cover of Oops I did it again. It's ... different to say the least.
I figure even if you don't normally like those songs, you might like the different take on them.
A couple of examples:

That was bad. It sounded like a pissed-off Cookie Monster.
Though I have always been partial to the rock/metal arrangements of Donkey Kong Country themes floating around YouTube.

Northern Kings are a band headed by four amazing power metal vocalists who do power metal covers of very popular and recognizable pop songs.

I love the chugging guitar in Bad Romance. Brutal.
Wish there was more screaming though.
EDIT: Also, I'll just leave this here

Essentially every song of each of those albums is what you are looking for(the later ones suck but Punk Goes Crunk is amazing).
