This might belong in the Entertainment section, but it could work here maybe.
So I've been enjoying a Netflix account (for years now) by going through TV series. I usually do two at once and at the moment I'm one short. Anyone have any suggestions?
I like to wait until a show is over so that I don't have to wait a year for new episodes to come out.
Here are some that I've completed to give you an idea of taste (also, the show I'm watching is BSG--I'm up to season 3).
Buffy
Angel
Firefly
Dead Like Me
Deadwood
Doctor Who
Avatar: the Last Air Bender
Futurama
Freaks and Geeks
Undeclared
Arrested Development
Smallville (I only made it through three seasons)
That's all I can remember. I've also waiting on Sopranos and Big Love, so they might as well be on the list too.
Big Love's pretty good. Can't wait for season 3 on DVD.
If you like Big Love, you can probalby appreciate "Six Feet Under" as well. Both really good dramatic family dramas.
BTW, you can see all of arrested development on hulu.com
It's awesome!
Recently I've been watching "Avatar: The Last Airbender" from a friend. I'm an animation fan when it's done well and it excels here. However, it does get a little childish in places, cause it's a Nick show, but the story and character development very top notch for something that starts so simple (4 kingdoms, long war, classic chinese romance of the kingdoms/winter/spring/fall mythology stuff).
The list in my op includes shows I've already seen (and liked), so Deadwood and Avatar I've already checked out--but I totally agree that they are great.
I've heard a lot about the Wire. I tend to hate cop dramas, but so many people have suggested it that I'm starting to warm to the idea.
I've heard the Tudors is pretty good, but I'm going to try to wait until it ends.
I've also heard good things about Dexter. I actually watched the first disc (I found it in my office) and it was pretty decent.
Good suggestions so far :D.

Listen to my M:tG flavor Podcast: Story Circle! (Newest episode is all about Innistrad previews.)
Heroes, but only Season 1. How I Met Your Mother, which I've been meaning to start watching also...
Sarah Connor Chronicles, since Firefly is on your list.
Teen Titans, since Avatar is on your list.
NCIS (even though it doesn't match up with your tastes). It's still running on TV, but it's by far one of the better TV shows I've ever watched. Great character depth and development, entertaining. It's pretty much my favourite TV show ever. It isn't like most crime drama's though, as the story lines are actually well written and there's enough sub plots to keep your attention.
Oh, and it has Ziva. <333333333333333

I don't have any hard numbers on this, but I'm targeted more often than a black guy driving a beat-up sedan with a broken tail-light and no license plate, and Cy's well aware of that.

I will give you credit Ziva is hawt but Abby is HAWWWWWWTTTTTT!!!!! I still find it hard to believe how old she is.

Veronica Mars: Amazing show; wonderfully written, and Kristen Bell is just perfect. The 3rd season isn't so great (they changed their approach to try and appeal to a larger audience, didn't work), but thew first two are must-sees.
Also, if you like Sci-fi, give the short-lived show Threshold a shot. It's only a dozen episodes long, but it's a very good show. It had a very interesting and well-thought-out premise, along with a great cast. I really wish I'd watched it when it was first airing.
Things worth watching now:
Burn Notice
Colbert Report
Daily Show
Entourage
Real Time w/ Bill Maher
so far these suggestions seem to be winning the thread. All excellent. Though Real Time/Daily Show/Colbert Report should be watched real-time/live as they primarly deal with current issues and lose relevence after a while.
I have one major recommendation: CARNIVALE.
It is an amazing show, but most people find the pacing a little difficult to deal with. It's a slower show, full of character development and little pieces of the overall puzzle. It is well worth it though, by the end of season 1 the pieces are in place and the show transitions from the opening game to the mid game (in chess terms).
Another big recommendation: Odyssey 5
Sci-Fi from Showtime, only got 1 season...but it was damn good. Has Peter Weller as the lead, so you know it's already full of awesome.
Also: The 4400, Generation Kill, Psych (show isn't over, but 2-3 seasons available on DVD), Eureka (also still running, but 2 or 3 seasons should be on DVD as well), Farscape, Chuck (still running, 2 seasons done).
Threshold was pretty cool too...but too short lived. Of the above stuff, the 4400 is one of the more highly recommended.
It's a long complex tale and expose on institutions and how they affect the individual and communities.
It has no beginning...it has no end...there is only the community in which you live and the institutions that you live in:
School
Law
Press
Crime Life
Immigrant/Immigration
Penal System
Politics
It's pretty amazing, and by far the best thing I've watched on TV (well...DVD).
Carnivale is a great series, but it's a bit wacky. It's a bit hard at times to follow what exactly the writers are trying to do, but all in all, a great tale. It's classic allegory in the tradition of dichotomies (though I hate some of these I can only think of anime right now, "X", and "Trigun")
If your looking for some shows that arent running anymore you gotta have Farscape in there.

Don't you see that the whole aim of Moderators is to narrow the range of thought? In the end we shall make infractions literally impossible, because there will be no words in which to express it. Every concept that can ever be needed, will be expressed by exactly one word, with its meaning rigidly defined and all its subsidiary meanings rubbed out and forgotten.
