I was always confused about this:
How exactly does Sylar aquire the powers of the people he cracks open?
Best guess is the brain (why else would he pop open the skull and remove the brain if not for power stealage?), but the full mechanics of it haven't really been explained to my knowledge.
My thoughts on "Unexpected"
Claire is quickly becoming my favorite character. Ironically enough, the teenaged hero is the most self-assured, independant, level-headed and determined of the bunch. She's come to terms with who she is and now that she knows where she comes from and that she's not alone, she seems to have pretty much dropped the "I'm a freak and my life sucks" cliche. I love that she has no fear in telling her father what she thinks of him and that she's not about to run while her family still needs protection. And Jailbait can act circles around a lot of the older actors on the show. Claire's story is the only one that gets me more involved beyond "what's going to happen next?" curiosity. And a lot of that is due to Hayden's acting. Though Jack Coleman plays a significant role in that as well.
On the flipside of that, as much as I love the actors playing them, I just want Matt and Hiro to be gone. Their stories bring episodes to a grinding halt. The characters are stiff, boring and one-note. And even when they try to bring complexity to the characters (Matt steals! Hiro loses his mojo!), it only seems to make the characters come off as more pathetic. Though both storylines may pick up a bit next week so I won't give up on them entirely.
I'm going to miss Claude. He has the best lines of an episode and his antisocial isolationism brought a different take on how someone would react to their powers and the world around them. But he served his purpose, he sent Peter off on his path, so it makes sense for him to go now. I think he might be back someday, but I wouldn't bet on it being anytime soon.
Angry!Peter is actually a bit scary. Especially now that he's learned to control his abilities to an extent. And he's only going to get angrier from here on out, thanks to Mister Ee-sack.
Thankfully, the junkie got one thing right, he helped the show drop Deadweight #1. Now if only Sylar could take care of Deadweight #2 for us since he's on a roadtrip with him ...
... speaking of: Mohinder is the dumbest smart guy I've seen in a long time. His consistent failure to ever put two and two together makes me question the schools in India. First he couldn't guess that Eden had ulterior motives and now he's having serious problems catching a clue about Sylar using him. I seriously hope he's doing this on purpose as part of a plan to get Sylar, but I doubt it. Because "let Sylar kill people under my nose and pretend I don't know" isn't much of a plan.
Overall, it was a pretty good episode. Hopefully, it signals an end to the really slow plotlines from midseason (namely Matt and Hiro's) and starts picking things up for the home stretch.

Well, so far I guess Sylar has only killed one person not counting Zane since his alliance with Mohinder. Also, I don't think anyone in Mohinder's position would have understood the headaches. One more, though, and I suspect Sylar will have to kill mohinder.
Hiro is an important character. He's going through alot of changes now. His bits in the episodes seem random but I think they're just setup for his transition from Hiro, Office Worker to Hiro, Triumphant Hero. To truly transform yourself into a hero you have to shed all your notions about life and for a time at least, leave parts of your former life behind. Hiro has done that. He left Japan, made his peace with his father, and sent his best and only friend in the world home to keep him from danger. I'd say Hiro is just past the Ordeal stage of a hero's journey
I was always confused about this:
How exactly does Sylar aquire the powers of the people he cracks open?
My guess is that the show's creators were inpired by:
Quote from wikipedia »
a funerary ritual among the Fore people of Papua New Guinea in which those close to the dead would eat the brain of the deceased to create a sense of immortality.
I'm not suggesting Sylar actually eats the brains necessarily, but the Fore ritual has been on my mind since the method in which Sylar steals powers was first introduced. It makes sense.
I would think someone as supposedly smart as Mohinder should be able to figure out who it was that killed Dale. They show up in town, talk to Dale, next day she's dead and 'Zane' is experiencing headaches issues just like Dale described when she first got her powers. It may not be conclusive, but if Mohinder isn't at least suspicious of his new partner (who quite eagerly volunteered to go with Mohinder to find others with abilities) next week, I'll be sorely disappointed.
Bitsy: I didn't say Hiro wasn't important, I said he was boring. I've always understood the writers' intentions with Hiro, I just don't find his storylines very interesting or engaging. It's like a drive to Vegas from LA: you know you're going somewhere potentially very awesome, but the trip there is just a lot of dry, boring desert. And I think the journey should be just as interesting as the destination. It doesn't help much that Hiro himself isn't a character I've grown to love.

I will also be very annoyed if Mohinder can't figure it out before he gets dead.
Hiro's arc is fairly boring. I know he's getting there, but just like matt, he's fairly uncharismatic and his story seems to drag along.
However, that lady, "Hope" and the gaming comission guy that swindled the casino out of a lot of money were caught/killed and I'm assuming the money will be returned. If that originally belonged to a Casino that Linderman was in charge of, and Linderman finds out that hiro/ando were responsible for helping bring them in he might reward one of them with his presence or something. Hiro still has to go get that sword from Linderman anyways so that'd be a convenient way to get the two together.
Looking forward to seeing Jack Bennet's Storyline now. It's about time he had a first name.
Regarding Peter's Power: So he has telekenisis, what does that mean? Sylar's original power wasn't telekenisis, so that means Peter can absorb Sylar's stolen power.. so does that mean that he has also absorbed all the power of Sylar's victims? Or does he have to rely on interacting with the power first hand to absorb it?

Dude, it's a superpower. It's like magic. There doesn't have to be an explanation.
It's just what I've read. His understanding of the way the body and mind works to me seemed to be related ot his power of "knowing how all things work".
But come now. Abilities need at least vague explanations of how they work. Claire heals. We understand that but if it was toooooo vague we'd think there was more to it than just that. Calling it regeneration gives us a set guideline through which to think about it.
So I think "Understanding how things work" is his power and he should have just considered that special. Now he's a psycho. Psh.

I am just wondering who is calling the hits for Jessica? At the end of the episode before Unexpected. She got another "package".
Jessica arranged to be freed from prison by Linderman. In exchange, she's his new gun for hire. I'm not sure if it was ever explained, but we know that Linderman sprung her from prison so I think it's safe to assume that he's calling the hits.

Well sure, Claire regenerates, but we never really know how. When she got stapled, the blood sucked back inwards - it wasn't like Wolverine's instant healing, it literally reversed the damage.
And how does Micah hack machines? What about Hiro's timebending?
All of these powers are unexplained, except for the ones in Jack's files (which if you haven't seen yet, you aren't missing too much). Even those are really vague, like Matt's enlarged frontal lobe that lets him hear others' thoughts - how exactly does that work? And how does he hear their thoughts in their voice? It can't be his own filter imposed on the thoughts - remember the convenience store incident.
I definitely think it's a voluntary illusionment thing. Wanting a thorough explanation is going to be tough to come by. I'm not too worried, though; this show isn't really about the powers so much as it's about the human drama that arises from them.

Michah's power is what they call a Technopath. For reference go watch the movie Sky High. The hot evil badgirl (who is of age0 is a technpath. They can control technology withtheir mind.

Yes, I'm aware of that, however, the abilities themselves are never really truly given a scientific explanation.

So I guess unknown. Unless Sylar can actually physically alter his brain.

Still like Hiro.
