NEW YORK - Time to face the facts: Dave Chappelle’s hit Comedy Central series isn’t coming back, says one of its stars.
“‘Chappelle’s Show’ is over, man. Done,” comic Charlie Murphy told TV Guide. “It took me a long time to be able to say those words, but I can say it pretty easy now, because it’s the truth.”
Chappelle’s sudden “spiritual retreat” to South Africa on the eve of his show’s third season has left the series in limbo since May. About half of a new season had been filmed before Chappelle left, Murphy said.
“I’m disappointed it ended the way it did, but I’m not angry with anybody,” he said. “‘Chappelle’s Show’ was like the Tupac of TV shows. It came out, it got everybody’s attention, it was a bright shining star, but it burned out and for some strange reason, it burned out quick.”
Comedy Central has always said the door is open for Chappelle to return, spokeswoman Aileen Budow said Wednesday.
Network chief Doug Herzog met with Chappelle on June 3, but that has been their last communication, she said.
Murphy, the older brother of comic Eddie Murphy, said his two seasons with Chappelle made him a star.
“Now I can go out and do stand-up,” he said. “I’m getting movie offers. It’s off the hook. Me getting to the next level or whatever’s going to happen is going to come from the next things I do, but ‘Chappelle’s Show’ served its purpose and I’ll always be grateful.”
Man...Can't they at least show that half a season?
It's better than SEEING THE SAME GODDAMN CHAPPELLE'S SHOW RERUNS OVER AND OVER, COMEDY CENTRAL! Honestly, Chappelle's Show is cool, but after like the billionth rerun, it loses its freshness and humor...
And this can't be in concrete, I mean, Murphy might be saying this but we have to wait for Chappelle to come back and get everything straight (Why'd the bastard have to go all Lauryn Hill on us? Eh, she's coming back finally...)...I mean, what'll he do? Nothing? Stand-up? I'm sure that eventually he'll go back to his show...I hope.
Too bad though, it was quite an entertaining show at its prime.
It really was the Tupac of T.V...But that means that it might not be dead! Conspiracy theories! TUPAC LIVES! Murphy was laying down a hint!
Too bad about Chappelle's Show. It was funny at times.

;p
I'm perfectly aware of who he is. It was a poor attempt at humor, you understand.

OH why?!?!?!!?!? How cruel. Now in its wake we have Mind of Mencia, which is some stupid fat mexican talking about people dumber than him. Great...I hope Adam Corolla's new show on CC will be good at least, since now I have to go back to watching South Park repeats and The Daily Show.

Don't mind my posts, they are probably just a product of gang violence

Yeah! I totally agree. They were all stupidly hyping up Mind of Mencia as the replacement to Chappelle's Show...My ass, it's definitely not even half as funny, and neither are any of the new shows...
I wish they would bring Crossballs back, and I wish they hadn't lost the rights to SNL and Conan...Poor Comedy Central, they don't even have South Park completely exclusive anymore...

Dammit! If Chappelle stopped so he could go worship Jesus or something, then that's just balls. Mind of Mencia's too racist. The whole show just plays off stereotypes and bigotry.

I don't understand how people find that idiot funny. I liked him in Dazed and Confused. Then I saw him do a show where he said (seriously at that), he hates white people. How the hell can any comedian get away with such a racial comment? I guarantee if Sam Kinison, Steve Martin, or any other white comedian said "I hate black people", even joking around, their career would have died right there. I hate reverse racism.

Sam Kinison is dead, and at one point said in his act "Kill rappers. Shoot them."
His career was not ruined by it. Especially since he never really had one, crappy comedian that he was.
People like to whine that there's "reverse racism" present in America rather than argue their rather lacking point: They don't like that they're getting what they gave.

Highly poignant and accurate social commentary!
Is Wayne Brady gonna' have to choke a *****?!
Yeah. It's a shame. It was good while it lasted, though.

That, and it's humor.
I especially liked the part where he was on the couch with muddy boots then ends up crawling on the floor.
Can't forget when the girls flash him either (one of the girls had such a beautiful face)

Good-They're still going to release all the stuff they filmed for season 3 and put it out on DVD.
