Sure, killing most of the population of one of the biggest cities in the world isn't "cold" at all...
So do we have absolute confirmation that they changed the ending of the movie and the version people (like Kevin Smith) have seen isn't some sort of rough cut? I know I've been crying about it a lot, but I think changing the end is a huge mistake. I'm super excited to see Watchmen, but I think it's just going to let me down...most stuff does.:-/
Yes, the ending has changed, yes, it is the one we've heard about for a very long time now. You can even see bits and pieces of it in the trailers.
"If I do go to heaven, I'll smack god across the face and tell him to get me a grilled-cheeses sandwhich and then say 'Yea what now god!? Say some'in! I dare you!' "
This thread has kinda fallen off the face of the planet, but anyways.
just got out of the movie. It was excellent. I think that the ending they wrote in really works. I've read the book multiple times, and though there were parts of the story we obviously miss i think over-all it was a faithful, accessible adaptation. I went in iffy and came out a believer.
The ending, as long as he's watching, i think it really makes more sense than the book. what are you're opinions?
I saw it today.
I liked it, but I can't specifically remember the details of the ending as the credits music was like a bucket of acid to the brain via the ears.

"games people play - dice, cards...what are they but quick methods of wasting a man's money, and sending him straight off to become a thief?"
Honestly, it's not a question of whether Rorschach is right and Adrian is wrong.
They are both right and wrong simultaneously. Rorschach is right when he says that Adrian is wrong and must be exposed. Adrian is right when he says that that humanity will not survive unless they are unified.
however, Rorschach is wrong in that he refuses to compromise. Adrian is wrong in that he distances himself from humanity. Dan and Laurie side with Adrian because Adrian's plan, horrifying as it is, at least works temporarily. Dan and Laurie are forced to work with Adrian because they see value in humanity. neither Adrian or really Rorschach do.
Doc Manhattan is silent witness to it all. and that's where the ambiguity lies. John knows whether or not Adrian's plan will ultimately and permanently succeed. But by not telling us, we don't know. It's fun that way.
well i find the movie pretty normal, though the experience could have been dampen by the fact that i have re read the comic countless times over.
though i would advice people to go see the movie, great acting, great filming the details and music are great too.
i would advice to get the dvd when it comes out for spoting the details.
con: alot of scenes and the witty dialog were cut, they should have just went with making a 6 part mini series, would have been able to flip fox off and please the fans.
and i think that they should have just stick to the ****** squid alian rather then the current ending which don't make much sense.

In summation: You are not inherintely superior for using a rogue deck.
The blood is completely dry. In chapter 1 we see Dan Dreiberg trying to scratch if off (and I think it wasn't the only time his happened) with no success. Granted, in that case it should look a dark brown instead of fresh red, but it's still fiction.
THERE YOU GO! That's the answer I wanted. The others are like the opposite of how I think (Dreiberg and Laurie are pretty sane = not completely selfish. I think they're the only "normal" characters, and the ones the writers intended to focus the most empathy on).
Same here. I'll have to completely agree (except for ehm, the Muse song part).
No love for Philip Glass? He's the whole first half of trailer 2 where the comedian gets thrown out and they mix it into the Muse song.
I hope the trailer mix-down with the strong organ gets released on the ST.
Does anybody else understand that John is the atheist/pagan argument to the paradox of God?
I haven't seen the movie yet (tix for tomorrow), but my agnostic heart hopes that they played up that aspect, making his loose grip on his own humanity all the more compelling.
John's role in the movie is interesting because instead of a possible alien attack, they play it out that John is always watching, re-instating a vengeful god figure into the world. it's an interesting take and it may very well work. i'm seing it again this afternoon.

Rorschach isn't wrong by refusing to compromise. Viedt killed most of New York with no retribution. If he wasn't a hero with them, and just an ordinary guy, they would have taken him down, regardless of weither he saved the world or not. Rorschach was the only one who realized that.
Am I the only one that thought the soundtrack was absolutely terrible?
I mean, isn't it bad when 99 Luftballoons is the least annoying song in the movie?
I'm just going to see it tonight. What's wrong with the soundtrack?
99 Luftballoons is classic 80s. The movie takes place in the 80s (alternate universe, but still). Seriously, have you ever heard music from the 80s? 'Annoying' is a mild euphemism for that era's musical production (outside of the rise of hardcore punk, but that was underground, not mainstream). So if they basically made the soundtrack to give it an 80s feel, I wouldn't be surprised about your reaction.

I thought they side with him because they're convinced that acting against him spoils any hope of a good outcome. Although I don't know what you mean by 'works temporarily', so this could be what you just meant.
Dan and Laurie are forced to work with Adrian because they see value in humanity. neither Adrian or really Rorschach do.
lolwut?
Why would Adrian do what he did if he didn't see value in Humanity? Acts don't come from nothing.

I was under the impression that his motives were more megalomaniacal than altruistic. He wants to be the one who saves the world, but doesn't particularly care about the world he's saving, if that makes any sense to you.
Also, regarding the soundtrack, these are the English lyrics to 99 luft ballons:
99 red balloons.
floating in the summer sky.
Panic bells, it's red alert.
There's something here from somewhere else.
The war machine springs to life.
Opens up one eager eye.
Focusing it on the sky.
Where 99 red balloons go by.
99 Decision Street.
99 ministers meet.
To worry, worry, super-scurry.
Call the troops out in a hurry.
This is what we've waited for.
This is it boys, this is war.
The president is on the line
As 99 red balloons go by.
I thought it was an apt choice of song in a movie so concerned with nuclear war.
Yeah, 99 Red Balloons is, like, the one song I've heard a million punk rock covers of. It's iconic of the 80s Cold War nuclear scare. It's a perfect song for the movie...
Saw it tonight loved it. The opening credits among other things were fantastic. So poignant.
Pros:
Soundtrack
Imagery
Ridiculous Hot Lesbian Kiss. That chick was just so hot, sigh, now she dead.
Rorschach, so badass, fry oil ftw.
Sex scene with the ever so subtle flame burst
Cons:
Spaceman wang
Cant believe this was pg-13 honestly, it seems like the kinda thing people would get up in arms about in this country.

Fantastic, totally worth it.
They really did a great job.
A card game about Presidents. Stabbing each other. With knives.
I liked it, but I can't specifically remember the details of the ending as the credits music was like a bucket of acid to the brain via the ears.
