I don't know if this is quite the correct section, but I think Wargames count under "Other Games" - if not, by bad.
Infinity is a sci-fi skirmish game with 28mm scale miniatures. It uses a fairly unique mechanic for your turns, such as you get moves equal to the guys you have. You have 8 guys, you get 8 moves. This means you can move everyone once, one guy 8 times or any combination.
Also, whenever an enemy model sees you act, they can shoot you. This means both players are always playing. It isn't like a traditional wargame where when its your opponents turn you can come back 30 minutes later when he's done his turn.
Does anyone play?
Here's some pictures of some of the minis.
Su-Jian - Asian Transformer Power Armor
Odalisques - Bio-Engineered VIP Bodyguards with the Islam faction
Cameronian - The Scots charging an advanced position with their werewolf back-up
Caskuda - Giant Bug that crashes onto the battlefield from orbit
Joan of Arc - Cyber Reincarnation leading the charge with her fellow Power Armored Knights
Much less expensive, much more tactically oriented than Warmachine. Its important about what you do in the game than what models you bring.
Infinity is nothing like any other mini game you've ever played. Its more of a tactical action game than some sort of 'get my combo off lawl'. Because your miniatures could die on your turn, you need to be incredibly flexible with your plans.
The game is incredibly lethal and due to the low model count (10 per side "max"), its incredibly fast paced. You can get a game in in under an hour. Because of the hard "limit" of 10 models per side, it doesn't matter if you play a small game of 150 points or a large game of 300 - they'll probably both take the same amount of time.
Its harder to just randomly scale up, because as your points increase you cannot just 'tack on' a model but need to make actual changes to your list. Also, due to how important game play is and not list building, there is no 'list hammer'.
The base mechanics of the game are very simple, but every model has a lot of possiblities and then they get random skills and equipment. Think of it more like D&D if it was a team-based, turn-based game than Warmachine.
The forums are incredibly friendly. You can expect to get a pile of help and information, not 'stfu noob' when you post. There are seven factions in total, I just posted what I thought were neat quick pictures.
I haven't played the WoW Mini game, so I don't know. Sorry bud.
All the rules are available online for free. If you want to try it out, grab some minis and a friend, proxy out a game with the quick start rules.
The quick start rules are slightly different than the 'real' rules, but both are available for free. If you want to buy the books, it would be mostly for the story and info on the setting/faction/etc.
It sort of plays like the Halo video game, except with Gear's of War importance on Cover. It has an European manga-esque aesthetic. You can play this game like Rainbow Six tactical, but you need to be aware that they might have invisible troops (you don't put a mini down but note where the model is), wall crawlers (like Spiderman) and guys with inhuman ability to jump.
The factions are:
PanO - The Human Sphere Superpower, consists of Oceanic Countries, such as Brazil, Spain, Australia and India. They manufacture the best Mecha, Power Armor and overall technology. They have the most skillful shooters.
YuJing - The rival Superpower, consists of Asiatic Countries, such as Japan, China, Mongolia and Thailand. They manufacture the best Power Armor, train the best Martial Artists (like Ninjas with Lightsabers), and overall most skillful elites. They have the most skillful melee soldiers.
Ariadna - Re-discovered colony that houses a rare Supermetal (Unobtainium, anyone?) on a death world populated by "werewolves". Behind on the technology race, they lack Powered Armor but can ignore Infowar (Hackers are important) and they got werewolves! They are known for their Skirmishers, Close Quarters Specialists and deadliest guns. They have the most athletic, strongest soldiers.
Haqqislam - The New Islam, Haqqislam, is the poorest Superpower that consists of former Islamic States that have returned to their Humanist roots. They have the best doctors, bio-science and holoprojection technology. They have the best trained Light Infantry that have an impressive Military Leadership school, troops that stand cool under pressure and are far more alert than others.
Nomads -Criminals, fanatics and outlaws from the other factions, the Nomads are the space-faring faction that live in three giant ships. Nomads are known for their dirty fighting, superior Infowar capability and unusual "mad science" soldiers. The Nomads signature unit are Special Forces, each equipped with bleeding edge black market technology.
Aleph - The AI that helps run humanity has their own Black Ops forces that consist of genetically grown soldiers that run of combat programming. They're an entirely Post Human faction (Think Ghost in the Shell), where each soldier is the best trained, equipped, genetically modified, fearless and toughest. Its an army of elites, meaning that Aleph is always outnumbered on the battlefield but each soldier is impressive.
Combined Army - Ruled by a genocidal Evolved AI program that is attempting to enslave the Universe, Combined consists of various aliens they had previously conquered. Morats are an ape-like warrior race that are tough, that utilize brutal tactics. Shasvastii are a dying race of shapeshifters that use trickery and genetic modification for guerrilla tactics. Exrah are mercenary bugs that are incredibly agile with strange vision powers.
The faction that is represented in-game is merely a Scouting Party, otherwise they would probably wipe humanity off the board.
Here's units from factions I haven't shown before:
Aleph's Cyber Reincarnation of the God of War: Achilles with his own cadre of personally trained soldiers
Nomad's retrofitted Mecha the Lizard Squadron (bunny girl and illegal-neurotics modified soldier stand near)
The studio is mostly just one guy, actually. He paints almost every model in Infinity (a few might be someone they contracted) for the studio. He also did old Confrontation and currently does Anima Tactics (don't know anything about that game). He's really cool, where if you email him, he'll actually respond to your questions. He's Spanish, so his English isn't the most amazing, but the fact he responds is pretty awesome.
Hah! Tev. I found this thread after you mentioned it.
Not a Necro, but I'd like to lend my support of this game. It's amazingly well-supported, the designers actually care, and they're tremendously responsive.
One of the best things about this game is the LACK of forced synergy between units. Positioning matters tremendously and the synergy between your individual models are created by crossing fire lanes and good positioning.
Another thing that is mind-blowing is that your opponent is never shown the full list. If you have units that begin off-board or are in thermoptic camouflage, you don't place them on the board, and your opponent doesn't even know what you have if anything.
Then again, these quirks were so interesting because I'm rather into wargames.
Even as a hater of anime/manga aesthetics, the miniatures drew me in.
Yeah, I had a whole discussion with a new player on how they don't like the lack of synergy. They want to be able to power out powerful combos that are unstoppable ala Magic or Warmachine.
I like the build-in trust mechanic. In most games, it is implicit but that raises issues. Due to the explicit nature of hoping that your opponent is not cheating, you can easily find out if you'd want them as an opponent in the future.
I'm updating the page because a new faction has been spoiled. Its another alien faction that uses its advanced technology to modify other organisms they've encountered, including creating bio-armor. Here's the Tohaa:
