Another week, another ridiculous showing by my team. Cutler, 'Hawks D, DeAngelo and R. Moss with 20+ points each, and P Manning and V Jackson with their constant points in the teens... Why is my team 4-4...
Well my 5 game win streak in MTGS3 league has me in 2nd place overall, 1st in my division. Looks like my slow start isn't gonna screw me over as bad as I thought it would. Ray Rice in the 9th is looking like my greatest value pick, but Brandon Marshall has served me well for a 4th rounder.
The Best game this coming week is Bengals vs Steelers winner sits alone in first place of the AFC North. Think my Bengals are gonna take this one based on past success at Heinz Field though it will be a really close game. Also the teams are like clones of so its even more interesting.
What a Thursday night snoozer. Could Jay Cutler be any more horrible? I mean he's always had a knack for forcing some throws and making some questionable decisions but 17 picks in 9 games? And yet somehow he's still managed to be 10th in pass yds per game. What is it about Chicago that brings out the absolute worst in QB's?
Jay Cutler is starting to become more and more like Rex Grossman. Yeeeech.
Ultimately, it's not that hard to connect the dots explaining the Bears' consistent woes at QB and their offense overall. They have one of the worst O-lines (just ask Matt Forte, who has bombed as a fantasy player since the beginning of the season) and one of the worst offensive coordinators in the league as well.
Pass protection just makes all of the difference in the world in these situations. If you look at the league right now, teams with quality pass protection have been successful; teams with poor pass protection haven't. It's hard to draft an O-Line guy with a high draft pick, but, I suspect that they will be in big demand this off-season.
Last night's game was terrible though. Really terrible. Neither team seemed like they really wanted to win(though the refs certainly tried to give Chicago an extra shot with that terrible call on Dre Bly towards the end).
Well Hester is on pace for a 1000 yard receiving season so he can't be that bad. But I don't follow the Bears, but from the Sportscenter highlights, it wasn't just the one pick Cutler threw that was his fault, but multiple. (Though I am curious which one you are blaming it all on Cutler for)
Well the first int was all on Cutler, and the last one was partially his too, but the other 3 pretty much are a combination of porous offensive line play along with some clearly questionable route running by his WR's. Cutler and his recieving options haven't been on page all season, partially because there's so much flux in the personnel, partially because they aren't very good, partially because of bad luck, partially because of some clearly questionable play calling and mainly because of a terrible offensive line.
Breakdown on the 5 INT's
1. 9:50 left in the 2nd, Cutler throws a pass to the end zone in double coverage and is picked off. That is all on Cutler.
2. Next drive in the 2nd. Cutler attempts a pass to Devin Hester. Hester slips and falls as Cutler is throwing it and the 49'ers DB takes it to about the 15 yard line. Just bad luck there.
3. Down 7-3 in the 3rd Quarter, Cutler attempts a pass to Hester again and the umpire is literally in front of Hester, who decides to stop running and the pass ends up right in the safety Goldson's hands. This one is completely on Hester, for one not realizing the route he was running and the fact the umpire was in the way, and the fact he gave up on the play even though the umpire was there.
4. Down 7-6 in the 4th quarter, Cutler is in the shotgun. Horrible snap that Cutler has to bend down and look over for, then Cutler avoids the pressure from the outside by stepping up into the pocket and throwing to Kellen Davis. Mark Roman jumps in front of him, definitely enough contact to warrant Pass Interference, but definitely not enough to be a 100% call either, but I think there should have been a PI call personally. This play was destined for failure considering everything that was going on before Cutler threw the pass to his 3rd string Tight End, who isn't very good.
5. Down 10-6 in the 4th with 13 seconds left, Cutler drops back for a pass designed to go to Greg Olsen and it goes over his head. The next play call from offensive coordinator Ron Turner is the same exact play designed to go to Olsen, this time Olsen gets bumped at the line and Olsen breaks away from Cutler rather than coming back to him, the total opposite of what Cutler was expecting and just an example of many plays where Cutler and his recievers are out of tune which costs them the game.
Personally I think the Bears will rebound to respectability. Last couple of weeks have been brutal just because when Cutler has played well the Bears defensive has been offensive and when the Bears defense has played well, Cutler has been offensive.
But their schedule is absolutely brutal and 10-6 might just be impossible. vs PHI, at MIN, vs STL, vs GB, at BAL, vs MIN, at DET. Realistically their only chance might be to have Minnesota fall back down to earth, Brett Favre does have his fair share of second half swoons, and win both games against them. Either way it's looking nearly impossible to make the playoffs at this point.
Spot on. I agree that Cutler hasn't had the help he needs, from both the O-line & his receivers. It's sad considering the potential I think the kid has. Maybe not as an elite QB, but certainly as a top 10 guy. In regard to their remaining schedule I don't see the Bears finishing any better then 7-9, more likely 6-10 IMO.
The Bengals now sit alone atop the AFC North and currently would be the number 2 seed. Broncos choked away there division lead and are now tied with SD again. Titans are rolling again with VY as qb. Saints are getting in close games but still managing to find ways to win. Jets still suck and the Falcons are not looking like a contender.

Which mean my steelers get the wild card. *sigh* Ah Well. geuss that just means that we'll have to play on the road.
SNow, doesn't that sound like the Broncoes from last year?
The Titans are rolling against the Jags, 49ers, and Bills. Not exactly overwhelming teams.
Completely unsurprised.
Falcons still get into the postseason as a wild card, Jets, Ravens, and Chargers bow down to the Texans as they get their first dose of postseason play.
So can anyone explain to me how in god's name JaMarcus Russell managed to be drafted as a #1 overall pick? He is this decade's Ryan Leaf.
The similarities are just astounding:
- Both left college early
- Both had scouts drooling over their physical attributes (i.e. Russell being able to throw through the goalposts halfway down the field on his knees) and didn't focus on whether they could actually be a QB
- Both built their reputation on mainly hype
- Both don't care about actually working hard and putting effort into improving
- Both are completely immature behavior-wise
Ok, so the patriots just lost by one point. All I have to say is....
WHY BELICHECK WHY?
The fourth down play was the worst decision I have seen in a while. The refs made the right call. But the fact that first they spent their last two timeouts needlessly and then made a horrible decision to go for it on your own 30 yard line or so basically gifting the Colts the win.

Falcons have a long way to go. They still have to play @ NYG & home vs PHI, the two teams they'll likely be fighting for the wild card spot against (unless Dallas takes yet another December nosedive). Atlanta needs to win both of those games. They also still have to play the Saints one more time. The rest of their schedule is favorable.
Texans > Chargers? Doubtful. Chargers win the rematch with Denver and win the West. Denver has tough games vs the aforementioned Chargers, Giants, Colts, & Eagles. SD has NE & Cincinnati. I'd love to see Houston sneak in but with 4 losses & games against TEN, IND, & NE it seems that sneaking by Denver would be thier best shot.

Why was he a number 1 pick? Two words: Al Davis. All Dracula cared about was that Russell could chuck the long ball

Phenomenal game given to the Colts on a bonehead coaching decision. On your side of the 50 you have to punt that ball away and leave it up to your defense. Manning is not a guy whose job you want to make any easier
The media and pretty much everyone is being ridiculously results oriented. If the Pats make that, the game is OVER. Even if they don't make it (which they were pretty favored to do, and in fact it looks like they might have and gotten an unfavorable call) they still have a chance to stop the Colts or get the ball back after giving up a quick touchdown.
It was a great decision, and only a badass coach like Bellichick is capable of it. Sucks that it backfired and now we get to be subjected to the media being ******** and trashing someone for trying something that is even slightly outside the box.

Result or no result I still dont go for it. I understand that if they make it the game is over but it's far from a sure thing. I'd still punt and make the Colts drive 80 yards. In regard to the call, we really dont get a definitive view of where the ball is in relation to the marker after he bobbled and secured it.
Where do you get 80 yards from? It's probably 70 yards tops. Peyton was absolutely tearing them apart late in that game. Personally I put the game on my team's shoulders and try to make a play instead of punting and preying that Peyton doesn't destroy me again.

70, 80, it doesnt matter. I'm still putting it on my defense. Colts are left with 1 timeout, no 2 minute warning, and while the Patriots D was struggling in the 4th, they had success stopping the Colts earlier in the game. I make them earn it
