What are some good games to get for a Wii? I'm probably going to get one soon/ I'm currently considering Wii Play (just for the controller, thought it doesn't have a nunchuck does it?) or just preordering Brawl, and playing Wii Sports until then. Any help here?
Zak and Wiki, Zelda: Twilight Princess, Mario Galaxy, Metriod Prime 3 (more of a rental though), I hear No More Heroes is really good, but I haven't played it.
As stated already, Zelda, Metroid Prime 3, Super Mario Galaxy are all, basically, 'must haves' if you own a Wii. And of course, Brawl once it is released.
I don't have any hard numbers on this, but I'm targeted more often than a black guy driving a beat-up sedan with a broken tail-light and no license plate, and Cy's well aware of that.

The only must have for me is Super Mario Galaxy. YOU MUST BUY IT! It was the game of the year after all...
How soon we forget what game of the year 2006 was... Twilight Princess! /crowdroar
Guess who played it 35 hours thru then deleted the file!
<--This guy.
I can't bring myself to play it again. Maybe I will some day with a guide.
RE4 was awesome, and now that the WiiZapper is out (or coming soon I forget) It'll be even better.
An overlooked game that I really liked was Kororinpa: Marble Madness. Its the Wii version of the classic NES game. YOU'RE THE MARBLE! But you dont control the marble, you control the track, and the marble goes where its directed. Fun game.
Most innovative games are definetly Trauma Center and Cooking Mama, and those are both fun too.
Zelda, Metroid, and Mario are the obvious ones. So let me add some support for lesser-known titles:
Zack & Wiki is a great little puzzle game. Fun and challenging, but it never gets to the point of outright frustration (at least I haven't reached such a level yet).
I just started playing No More Heroes, and it's basically like a Grand Theft Auto with some well-written humor and retro references. The world isn't as open, and the side jobs are a bit repetitive, but the look and feel of the game is pretty sweet.
Okami is set to be released in March. I obviously can't review the Wii version yet, but if it's faithful to the original, then it should definitely be worth getting (at least if you haven't played it yet).
There's also a Harvest Moon title coming out in February, if you like that series (I do).
Mario Party is good if you have people to play with, obviously.
I was just kind of wondering why this one is only rental worthy. I'm in the same boat, I'm really thinking of getting a wii, but I recently called 6 local bestbuys in my area and a local gamestop and no one has anything and no one knows when they are going to be getting any in. My main concern with getting one at best buy is that I still have $78 left on a giftcard I got for Christmas. Any news when the new Mario Kart is going to come out? And the Wii is completely backwards compatible with Gamecube games right?
Personally, being an Xbox fanboi, I was really surprised how fun Mario Galaxy was, especially because I'm a first person shooter kinda guy. If you get a Wii, get Galaxy. Oh, and you can't go wrong with Brawl.
I was very underwhelmed with Zelda, though. It looked the any other RPG, except with a weaker fighting system. Also, the graphics on the Wii aren't anything to write home about, so if you want to get a good RPG console game, go with Xbox instead.
My friends have told me about Harvest Moon, but I would want some info before buying, so... What are the games like?
That's the issue with it. The games got a very... odd premise. You're a farmer taking over for a dead family member who has, in his later years, let the farm go to hell. You spend your life trying to fix the farm, raise animals, and make friendly with the locals. OH, and dont forget about getting married.
Atm, im more of a proponent of the gameboy ones, i dont feel that any of them past like, the ps1 Harvest moon got it right, whereas all the gameboy ones have the same flavour and innocence that drew me to the game.

[19:59] greymon90210: Hey StormBlind how tall are you? "I'm six money *****, don't forget it"
"The Critics always said that we'd only have a black president when pigs flu"...
You didn't specify what kind of games you like, but since Brawl is on your list, I assume you like them fast and action packed. That's how I like them too. Wii Sports is fun, but I recommend at least one other game to hold you over from now until Brawl. Recommended games:
1) Excite Truck - I got to play an extended demo and it turned out to be one of the biggest reasons I bought a Wii. It is really fun, fast, high energy racing. I wish it had better multiplayer though.
2) Ghost Squad - A cheaper $30 title. This one is an arcade on-rails shooter with a lot of fast action and hours of replay value. The main adventure is quite short, but you can replay it for days to open up new paths, weapons, and costumes. Its fun and funny for 1 to 4 players.
3) Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles - Similar to Ghost Squad in that it is an on-rails shooter, but this adventure is far longer and has a much deeper story. I really liked this one.
4) The Godfather - This is like Grand Theft Auto set in the 1950s. You extort businesses, kill rival mobsters, and try to take control of all of New York. It sells for $30 new and I think that's a good deal for the 30-40 hours of gameplay you get from it.
5) Resident Evil 4 - Probably the best game I have played in the past 10 years, but I already had it for GameCube, so I didn't rebuy it.
These are games I enjoyed, but might not be for everyone:
1) Metroid Prime 3: Corruption - This is a slow paced adventure game. It has some beautiful graphics, amazing locations, fun puzzles, a fairly epic backstory, and some of the best motion controls on the Wii. The only problem was that the action segments were a little sparse - fun, but sparse.
2) Super Paper Mario - The first few levels were great, but later on the story got in the way of the platforming. Still fun though.
3) Red Steel - I paid $50 for this and felt that was too much. Now I think you can get it for less than $20. That seems reasonable if you want to play through a mildly entertaining FPS.
Stuff you might as well buy since you're getting a Wii:
1) Wii Play - You probably have to get an extra controller anyway, so spend the extra $10 and get a game to boot. I'll make you a deal - if you don't like it, I'll trade you a Thoughtseize or $15 for it.
2) Wii Zapper - If you like Ghost Squad or Umbrella Chronicles, the Wii Zapper definitely improves the experience. It comes with a game too, which is good for at least a few hours worth of fun.
Another mentioning of Super Mario Galaxy, Zelda and Resident evil 4/umbrella chronicles as good games that you should get. I'll add that Mario Stikers Charged football is ridiculously fun and challenging. Online leagues make it even better. Endless Ocean is fine for those with a pokemon-like compulsion to collect things and is good fun if yu don't feel the need for a rigid sotryline to a game. Not played Zack and wiki yet - but from seeing a mate play it for 5 minutes it definitely looks like something i'd enjoy
Basically my recent Wii playing has been dominated by Guitar Hero 3 and Endless Ocean.
I'm sure you're familiar with the former.
The latter is.. well.. different. I love it to pieces but I don't think it would be everyone's cup of tea. You're a SCUBA diver, and the whole aim of the game is to go out and explore the sea, look at and discover new fishes, find treasures, take photos, and do whatever divers generally do. There's practically no action, it's all very peaceful and in fact I'm yet to find a way to die (if it's even possible... even things like hammerhead sharks are docile.)
Other than that, I've got WarioWare which is fun but is pretty easy to finish... Zelda, which in my opinion is a piece of junk, Wii Play which is the pinnacle of boredom and of course Wii Sports which I still find fun all these many months since it was first released.
I was just kind of wondering why this one is only rental worthy.
Basically, it was short and easy. You can easily get above 80% completion on a run through with practically no backtracking. What kind of Metroid game is that? The exploration aspect is nil. The controls are great, it's a fun game, but the length and replayability point to a rental for me.

Fire Emblem is decent if you like tactical RPGs.
Akuma will wreck you.
That's the issue with it. The games got a very... odd premise. You're a farmer taking over for a dead family member who has, in his later years, let the farm go to hell.
Would like to add lego star wars and
in addition to all these games I would say there is always the VC with all the games of my childhood.
As for don't buys...
WWE Smackdown vs Raw
Pirates of the Caribean
Basically, it was short and easy. You can easily get above 80% completion on a run through with practically no backtracking. What kind of Metroid game is that? The exploration aspect is nil. The controls are great, it's a fun game, but the length and replayability point to a rental for me.
