I'm installing MODO on two computers in a row. Any suggestions on what to read after I finish War & Peace?
Really, though, I'm looking for a new sci-fi/fantasy series. Some favorite authors are Lois McMaster Bujold and whoever did the Coldfire trilogy. A modern setting is a plus, and if it's dark, that would be great.
Go read Enders Game by Orson Scott Card. Its a sci-fi book with quite dark undertones, yet still very entertaining. It works great as a standalone book, or you can read the amazing series that follows it.
Or if you want fantasy I would suggest The Bitterbynde Trilogy by Cecilia Darth-Thornton. Its quite unique as fantasy goes and the author is an amazing storyteller.
Ofcourse, I you want it I could always suggest the normal stuff like Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, Wheel of time, etc. But those top two there are amazing

I will play what wins, not what is convenient. Personal preference is nothing, The win is all that matters. I will netdeck at every opportunity, but I will not let that stifle my creativity. Style points do not appear on tournament reports. A good deck with an incompetent pilot is nothing more than a dressed up match win. I will crush my opponent mercilessly, and expect no less from him. Victory is its own reward, The prize is just a bonus.

George Carlin's 'When Will Jesus Bring the Porkchops?' is a very good time waster...the book is hilarious(if you don't mind being offended by most things he says).
Maybe you'll get Archenemy cards in your Duel Decks From The Vault: Deck Builder's Toolkit All-Foil Duels of the Planeswalkers Downloadable Content Expansion (Tactics Edition).
The Otherland series by Tad Williams is a great read, if you have time to slog through 4 books at 8-900 pages a piece. You mentioned you wanted a modern, dark setting, and Otherland has it. Give it a whirl, I think you'll enjoy it.
i recommend I Am Legend by Richard Matheason. It sabout the last man on earth and everyone else is a vampire. The book inspired writers like Dean Koontz and Stephin King.

If you are obsessive-compulsive, please press 1 repeatedly.
If you are co-dependent, please ask someone to press 2.
If you have multiple personalities, please press 3,4,5 and 6.
If you are paranoid-delusional, we know who you are and what you want. Just stay on the line so we can trace the call.
If you are schizophrenic, listen carefully and a little voice will tell you which number.
If you are depressed, it doesn't matter which number you press. No one will answer.
for sci fi/fantasy, try The Martian Trilogy: A Princess of Mars, The Gods of Mars, & The Warlord of Mars. very awesome reads, that don't get much recognition.
if you want something with a lot of humor, try Nuklear Age; the misadventures of a bumbling superhero and his colleagues.
as for the Magic books, I'm a big fan of the Ice Age trilogy: Gathering Dark, Eternal Ice, and Shattered Alliances... Jodah is my hero.

Cat's Cradle, while not your classic Sci-Fi is a wonderful book by Kurt Vonnegut. I suggest you pick it up.
Slaughterhouse-Five is a good one too.
I just finished The Golden Compass in Phillip Pullman's His Dark Materials trilogy and found it quite engaging. And if you read it now, before the movie comes out this winter, you'll be able to be like "Pssh, the book was better."
Also, the Sword of Truth series is good, even with the BS Ayn Rand posturing after book 5.

I second this. Tad Williams is an excellent author, and the Otherland saga was very good. His standalone book War of the Flowers was also pretty good. Don't be fooled by the name, it's actually quite dark.
I also recommend George R.R. Martin's Song of Ice and Fire saga. It is medieval, not modern, but it's still incredibly good. Martin's characters are very well developed, and it is very easy for the reader to relate to them. His setting is very believable and well-researched, and his plots are complex and intriguing without being convoluted and confusing. I don't know if I can recommend this series highly enough, it is probably my favorite fantasy series of all time.

The Sword of Truth series, by Terry Goodkind. It is definitely a great read for those with intelligence. Seriously, try this one first. Once you read them, you will see that a lot of the popular books like Potter are garbage in comparison.

Anyone?
For fiction, read the ABARAT series by Clive Barker. Awesome fantasy (not of the S&S or Lord of the Rings vein) story, bizarre characters and events, all kinds of high quality full-color paintings in it as well. I wouldn't touch Potter books with a ten inch pole.
The newest Star Wars series "Legacy of the force" is turning out to be really good too. Though it could be close to the end of star wars books. So many on the supporting characters have met their end in vong series and it looks like it will continue.
