I recently got a CD out of the library, listening to it before buying it. I'm glad I did; the vocalist is still one of the best in the past two decades, but the instruments absolutely ruin it. I'd buy it in a heartbeat, though, if there were a way to isolate the vocal tracks, perhaps some sort of voice recognition that I could run the mp3s through after ripping...
Does such a thing exist? Preferably for much less than $950 (free is good)?
I'm not really sure. This thread asked a similar question about isolating individual instruments, but it was said to be more or less impossible. It might be a different story when it comes to isolating just the vocals.
I don't know the answer myself, but if anybody did, it would be the various mash-up artists who have so enriched our musical world. Try e-mailing some of them; they could be able to help.

There's no quick and easy way to do it. You'd have to be very familiar with sound manipulation and the software, and filter out the vocals manually. There's no magic program to let you pull the vocals from any random song, or inversely, pull the instrumentals.
