ooh.. a comics clan. a real reason to post. haha.
so what will you guys be getting this week? aside from inquest.. we usually get it here delayed in manila. i'll be getting copies around saturday.
maybe we could do "reviews", with minimum spoilers of course.
i'm all for the comic's clan. i'd love to read the latest civil war or something and come on here and spoil it for everyone. ;):D or hear some interesting news about a new arc, artist, or writer. something comic related, and post it on here for everyone to read. i'm up for it. who else is??
i'm up!
really would like for someone to PM me to bring me up to date on civil war, tanks anyone!

random, useless knowledge:
if we could line up every person that lives in china, and try to reach the last one walking, we would never be able to do it, because of it's demographic growth would get bigger and bigger and we could not be able to reach the end
Know It's a little late to ask, but has anyone been keeping up on the new run of Enternals by Gaiman. I've liked it so far but I was kinda bummed out that I figured out who was behind everythinf from the second issue.

this thread hasn't been posted on in a couple of weeks and that makes me a sad panda. boo to all of us comic book lovers who'd rather post about magic. anyway, to get to the point, i just read grant morrison and jim lee's first issue of the new wildcats series and, i must say, i thought it was fantastic. anyone else out there happen to pick this up? in my honest opinion, this is the way wildcats should have been done back in the day.
yeah, i also picked up the first issue of gen13 while i was at the shop the other day and it's actually pretty good. not quite as good as wildcats was, but worth reading. i'm really digging this whole wildstorm revamp thing. the fact that wildcats was so good makes me wanna start picking up wetworks and deathblow too. but i don't know about those. i was never a big wetworks or deathblow fan.
i also didn't know that both wildcats series' opened w/ the same line. that's kinda cool. i have pretty much every issue of 3.0 (minus a few) and i really liked the way it was written. it was such a different take from previous attempts at the book and that made it very intriguing to me. and i think that the direction that ellis went in w/ 3.0 is really helping this new series to be what it is w/ spartan still being a muti billionaire from halo and such. it's really awesome. i've never really been a big grant morrison fan (i hated his run on x-men), but the work he's doing over on batman w/ andy kubert and now after reading wildcats, i'm pretty impressed.
the problem i have with Comic books is that essentially they become tired due to not having limits, and lose fan reaction. This prompts the creator to add a number or other adjective to the title of the comic, and start it all over again with just a flare difference (for example The Amazing Spider-Man, the Astounding Spider-Man, Ultimate Spider-Man, Spider-Man 2, etc.// X-Men, Uncanny X-Men, etc etc.)
This upsets me because i read full length magic novels, and i can't imagine if everytime they reached a limit they reset continuity on people.
Why this is an issue in my current life deals with my stumbling upon Justice League the Animated Series. After downloading and viewing all 91 episodes, I became a bit intrigued by the League itself and the origins of everyone. Of course i knew who Superman was, and i'd been a ridiculous Batman fan all my life, and while hearing of Flash, Vision, Green Lantern, Wonder Woman (and never had i heard of Hawkgirl) i didn't know what they were about. So I hit the wikipedia, to see the ultimate fate of these characters.
Which led me to something called "Crisis of Infinite Earths". A comic printed around 1985, it involved the entire Justice League and multiple universes of DC converging into 1 single universe (which would later be retconned to say 2 universes, 1 normal 1 anti-matter). Wonder Woman ends up killing a man who is possessing Superman until he is killed, so she must do what needs to be done. Eventually, shes phases out, as if she never exists. Then, Superman (Kal-El, from Earth 2 and the one we all know and love/hate) is killed along with Lois Lane.
Next thing you know, Infinite Crisis' comes out this year, and redoes it all-- allowing Superman to live, Wonder Woman to return, and the eventual reformation of the Justice League occurs.
The problem is that the story seemed to be great to begin with-- so why go around destroying people (Superman, WW) and making Alexander Luthor a hero just to throw it all down the drain? It would seem to me that there Comic Book authors/creative teams don't think far enough ahead for such elaborate plots as combining parellel universes, but then they go back and just wipe the slate clean?
Don't like it at all. It isn't like creating NEW superheroes is so difficult that had you made the immensely hard decision to actually KILL Superman and Wonder Woman, the Earth and comic readers alike would have no hope.
That said, after having watched this whole series, i'm interesting in reading the Crisis of Infinite Earths, as well as the follow-ups/spin-offs Inifite Crisis, 52, and A Year Later.

Good debating there pal. Much of what you says makes sense-- except making new superheroes (Static Shock anyone? Loved him.)
But seriously, if the name changes are really just different universes, then that might make more sense (although confusing for non-comic fans).
Like I said, if they decide on a continuity and keep building on it, then that is one thing. But to mess-up and erase is totally ridiculous, as in the long haul-- newcomers like me see bad writing, not an impacting death that was just as uplifting when erased.
And in Magic continuity they've never done massive RetCon. The card game is not the novels, so the card argument is seperate.
Points taken.
