Burnout Revenge (This is puuuure entertainment)
God of War
Devil May Cry 1-3
GTA games, newest is best.
As for games that take a long time tough you should just get funcoms "The Longest Journey". Im pretty sure its only for pc tough but its an amazing game and its loooong. Very epic and large story.

That's completely untrue, there was quite a number of side quests in Dragon Warrior 8 from finding the monsters you needed for the arena and the troll cave to the real ending of the game.
wow, three...
still doesn't make the game any better... hell, the 'end of game' Dragovian Trials was still predictable as hell.
the Monster Arena had the most benefit as you could summon your team to battle... against the final boss, i loved throwing them out as fodder to deal some damage.

I just got to say Super Mario 64. that kept me entertained for years. Also, isnt 'RPG game' redundant? (role playing game game?)
No. Super Mario 64 isn't even an RPG, it's a platformer. When describing games, RPG refers to a type of game known for leveling, skills, character creation, and quests. Not necessarily any game that you role-play in. It's a bit of a misnomer.
I really liked Tales of Symphonia for GCN, and I imagine the Tales games on PS2 are just as fun. I really enjoyed Xenosaga - moreso than the FF games (which are worth getting too). A lot of the stuff here is really good, though. You might also want to check out a site like www.ign.com and check out their reviews of PS 2 RPG's. You might not always agree with the review, but they're usually a good start on what games to buy next.
ninjahop: Yes XX is good. Isuka is good as well tough its more balanced towards 4player then two player.

If you're going to looking into valkyrie profile for ps1, you might want to keep in mind the possibility of having to pay more for it then you paid for your ps2, cause it's a fairly expensive and difficult to find.
Yes, Valkyrie Profile is a collector's game, much like Disgaea. I've been collecting RPGs for about two years and I'll add my name to the list of people that have recommended it. It feels very much like a classic RPG, but it has some innovative appeal to it as well. It's a bit pricey though; what you choose is going to depend quite heavily on how much you feel like paying for a video game. Even FF7/FF8 are going for a lot now. A fairly cheap RPG is Star Ocean III: Til The End Of Time. It's fairly deep and you can spend months trying to get all the Battle Trophies. For a mid-priced game, I'd try and pick up Shin Megami Tensei: Digital Devil Saga (or SMT: Nocturne for a harder but, IMO, much cooler game) or perhaps Phantom Brave. If you're looking to spend more, you can go for Valkyrie Profile, Castlevania: Symphony of the Night (I believe this is expensive now but I'm not 100%), or Tactics Ogre for PS1 (or try FF7 or FF8, as cool as it may be to bash Square it's really hard to put down the most recognizable RPG characters in the world), or Disgaea or...uh Disgaea 2 for PS2!
Hope that helps, shoot me an email if you have any questions.
Top 5 RPGs for Playstation (One), in no particular order
1. Tales of Destiny 2. If you can find it for under $100, that is. 2. Lunar 2: Eternal Blue Complete. Excellent game. 3. Star Ocean: The Second Story. I DARE you to beat Indalecio after you unlock the Cave of Trials. 4. Valkyrie Profile. Combat system is a bit weird, but the game is definitely worth it. 5. Final Fantasy 7. Have fun with Emerald Weapon, sir.
Top 5 for ps2, again in no particular order:
1. Radiata Stories. Yeah, some characters are a pain in the ass to get, but Elwen's worth it and then some. 2. Disgaea: Hour of Darkness. A zillion things to do, and if you want everything, be prepared to have 200+ hours of gameplay. 3. Dragon Quest 8. It has one of the funniest scenes I have ever seen in a game. 4. Final Fantasy X. This is my favorite FF ever. Anima FTW. 5. Atelier Iris: Eternal Mana. Not many people like this one, but I do.
Good luck ever finding Tactics Ogre: I have one, and it took me for-freaking-ever to get it.
And yes, no incantatrix for you. Or anyone. That class makes puppies cry. Mostly because they are the former Big Bads who have been Baleful Polymorphed into said puppies. By you. Because you're an incantatrix.

*Tales of Destiny 2 is in PS2 not PS1 and I can't recognise Indalecio from what you said about Scar Ocean(I know Cave of Trials). You mean Isceria Queen?
My top 5 RPGs in PS1 1. Valkyrie Profile 2. Tales of Phantasia 3. Final Fantasy Tactics 4. Super Robot Wars Alpha: Another Story 5. Star Ocean: The Second Story
My top 5 RPGs in PS2 1. Valkyrie Profile: Silmeria 2. Tales of the Abyss 3. Super Robot Wars Alpha 3 4. Dragon Quest VIII 5. Tales of Symphonia
.... the time when FF series was my best has ended after FF6. That's why FF7 and others are not even close to top 10 to me.
One of my all-time favorite games was a very overlooked and underappreciated 3rd-person RPG called Drakan: The Ancients' Gates for the PS2.
You can find it used for dirt cheap. It's not up to par graphics-wise with a lot of the other, more refined RPGs, but I sure enjoyed it. I usually play it through again once every other year or so.
My top 5 RPGs in PS2 1. Valkyrie Profile: Silmeria 2. Tales of the Abyss 3. Super Robot Wars Alpha 3 4. Dragon Quest VIII 5. Tales of Symphonia
Silmeria hasn't been released State-side yet... not until the end of September.
also, ToS is Gamecube outside Japan. they did get a PS2 version, but it never left their shores.
Why do people love DQ8? that game was the most boring game i have ever played. Characters- bland & flat; story- linear, predictable, stereotypical; battles- boring. the game has no replayability.
damn, the reasoning abilities of some people scare me... like those of FF freaks.
why am i the only one to suggest the awesome Shadow Hearts series? great games- awesome characters, great stories, addictive battle system better than any FF game i've played.

In the US, Tales of Destiny 2 is PSOne. Trust me on this one. Also...
Tales of Symphonia is for GameCube.
Indalecio is the real name of the final boss in Star Ocean: The Second Story. Hell if I can remember what else he's called. Iseria Queen is EASY compared to him...after he shifts form, he casts this ugly spell that deals a zillion points of damage to everyone.
And yes, no incantatrix for you. Or anyone. That class makes puppies cry. Mostly because they are the former Big Bads who have been Baleful Polymorphed into said puppies. By you. Because you're an incantatrix.

Ah, the last boss.... I also can't remember the name but it was not really hard compared with Iseria Queen in my memories.
And about ToD2, I'm sure PSOne can't read DVD and ToD2 is released as DVD format. The game "Tales of Destiny 2" I'm talking about is this (I attached an image of the package):
Same as Tales of Symphonia, I saw it as a PS2 title in a shop (Here's Australia). Well I dunno about US but it is fact it has released in PS2.
Before you talk about DQ, maybe you need to know this first:
DQ is actually only for JAPANESE.
I'm one of the people who think that English version of DQ series is bit RETARDED. Sure everything you said about DQ is truth without doubt. However that is what DQ aims from DQ1. DQ cannot be itself without bland & flat characters, linear, predictable & stereotypical story. Nearly everyone was playing DQ series when they were children in Japan and they became adults. They don't want spectacular & unpredictable stories in DQ; All they want to DQ is just what you said.
Honestly, practically every game that comes out anymore is 1/2 RPG anyway. Most of them involve progressing along a storyline, and your character evolves/gets better as you go along. FPS and sports games are an exception to this, to some extent, but anything else can find it's roots in the RPG mentality...because that's what gamers want with their games anymore. They want their character to grow over the timespan of the game, and they want to feel bonded with that character because they developed them. Hell, this even happens in some sports games(everything Madden) and a few FPS as well. For as much as people knock RPGs, basically everything qualifies as an RPG anymore.
If you're really trying to stick to the 'RPG Genre' in it's truest sense though, FF7 and FFX are good PS2 titles(please do not play FF8 or FFX-2 under any circumstances whatsoever, they are both a disgrace to the FF name). As is Disgaea, Star Ocean 3(or SO2 for the PS1). Suikoden 1 and 2 are amazing, even though they're PS1 games, but, you're only going to buy them if you're willing to spend hundreds of dollars in the process. I thought that Suikoden 3 sucked and 4 sucked even more, so, I'm not sure how they came out with a 5, but, I hear that it's pretty good. Shadow Hearts is great, Valkyrie Profile is also. I like the PS2 Prince of Persia trilogy quite alot. They're technically called 'Action/Adventure'..but they're RPGS, they just have real-time combat. Oh, also, I would say that Kingdom Hearts 1 and 2 are easily among the best RPGs ever made for any system, and definetely so for the PS2. Yes, you have to play with Disney characters. But they're funny, and the game has a high maturity curve...it's Disney characters, but, you deal with adult level concepts in it. And the gameplay in them is utterly amazing, plus you can easily spend 100+ hours on each one(in perspective, it generally takes around 200 hours to completely beat FFX).
Orrrrrrrrrr, if you have a high-end PC, you could trump all of these and buy Oblivion. It is the best RPG, ever. Anything that it does that other RPGs do, it does better, and it does alot of things that other don't. And you can get 300 hours out of it in one playthrough, and then immediately play it again with a different class of character and it'll feel like a wholly different game.
