I have to say that this is a sad day for video gamers. I've always enjoyed hearing about the next wave of VG products and systems. I hope that it won't be completely wiped out and we still will get updates.
It's not really surprising..the video game industry is large and self-sustaining enough, anymore, that it doesn't need an event like this anymore. It sucks, and unanticipated, but it makes sense if you stop to think about it, from a financial standpoint. Plus, like MW said, Sony probably pulled out first, since they took really bad beats at the last E3, and they have a bad reputation as far as corporations go(as much as you pay extra to buy something just because it says 'Sony' on it, you'd think the opposite of this was true) and I imagine MS followed suit immediately afterwards, since there's no real point to them being there if their main competitor(Sony) isn't there to compete anymore. I mean, honestly, Nintendo doesn't really 'compete' with either of them now, and especially not once the PS3 and Wii are out. The cost of the Wii is cheap enough(in comparison) that people will probably buy an Xbox 360 or a PS3 AND a Wii....Nintendo doesn't have to 'compete' when they can just satisfy everyone.

Uh, I was kind of making a joke there. But you made a good analysis of why Sony probably dropped out of it. Oh well, the damage has been done to their system already, and I'm glad about it.
I'll be glad about it if it results in them not trying to charge 600 dollars for the PS3(though I find this unlikely..it's Sony we're talking about, afterall). I could see charging that price if the system were coming later, when Blu-Ray was more of a proven thing..but it's alot to spend for the capability of playing a certain type of disc that you may never end up needing to play anyway. That having been said, I'll probably still buy one, since Sony is basically the only system that has any amount of good RPGs.
I think Sony and MS were just bitter that their high dollar, high profile next gen systems were virtually ignored(in comparison) because everyone just wanted to play the Wii all day long...so they 'took their ball and went home'.
Kind of a bummer, but but oh well. I never really payed too much attention to E3, but it was still kind of cool to look at some of the more featured stuff. I haven't even played my X Box 360 since like April. Oblivion got old, and that was that.
Sony probably did pull out first. Their PS3 looks absolutely terrible. And it is expensive to boot. Final Fantasy is my favorite series of all time, but its just not worth a 600 dollar system. Maybe I will get a Wii, because if I end up not using it like my x box, I'm only out 250 bucks instead of 475 with my x box.
I don't think it's that surprising that you're not playing your 360..the original Xbox didn't exactly have a ton of quality titles, especially not after it had only been out for a year.
As for the PS3, I don't think it looks terrible at all..it is expensive, for sure, though. If Blu-Ray takes off, PS3 will be worthwhile..if not, it probably won't.
As for getting a Wii, with the downloadable content etc, I think it's impossible that you'd ever run out of games to play.
anyone complaining about the ps3 price forgets how much the ps2 was when it first game out. I saw them go as high as 3grand...though avg of 1500.
Sad to lose E3 :-(
I've heard from other sources that E3 won't be gone for good - but that it will be "downsized" to an unspecified level. Sony and Microsoft at least will be showing next year, but the show won't be such an extravaganza. http://ve3d.ign.com/articles/722/722063p1.html

i think that know E3 is gone its gonna suck for the geek boys but for the companys it will be better because they save millions of dollars and have more time 2 put together better demos and they can show their products to the people the want to more easily
