Hmmm my top 5 favorites are constantly shifting, but at the moment...
1. Mulholland Drive - by - David Lynch
2. The Ninth Gate - by - Roman Polanski
3. Nightmare before Christmas - by - Tim Burton
4. Umbearable Lightness of Being - Written by - Milan Kundera technically but it was directed by Philip Kaufman
5. Royal Tenenbaums -by- Wes Anderson
While I love all of his films, this is the most iconic and my overall favorite.
Honorable mention:
FLCL directed by Kazuya Tsurumaki. This technically is an anime but it's only a handfull of episodes and it makes more sense if viewed as an episodic movie rather than seperate stories. Still, it's a TV series so it fails to be a "movie". The same can be said for Paranoia agent, which has such poetic expressions and can be viewed as a linear, episodic film.
I completely understand. I wasn't trying to insult/ offend anyone (I don't think I have, but just in case). I realize this is a 'lighthearted' thread, and realize it's up to any one to decide their favorite. That's fine. I just got caught up in the title, 'Top 5 movies of all time.' I suppose 'of all time' carries substantial weight with me, and I got agressive when people mentioned movies I didn't find worthy. I guess it's a continuation of the frustration i have with lots of my friends finding White Chicks and Date Movie to be great works of art. All in all, I apoligize and take back all assertions.
