Sorry if there is already a thread about this, but I have been through about 7 pages and didn't see anything so I decided I'd try and see who all here paintballed, and if you do, what kind of marker you have.
Personally I have a System X Vengeance 2.0 Autococker with an E-Blade. I put a 16 inch Dye Ultralite Barrel on it and I am in the process of buying a ZeroB Board for it and a Samurai trigger, because I want to have most of the capabilities of the E-2 Blade, without the $250 price tag. I heart ramping :D!!! I was actually in the process of selling my Magic cards to buy it, an Empire Reloader B Hopper, a CP Reg, and a new Nitrous tank, when I realized that I couldn't bring myself to get rid of them.
And if you don't paintball, umm, that probably made a lot of sence didn't it?
If this is in the wrong section sorry, I just figured that it was pretty entertaining to paintball, so I stuck it here.
I had just gotten into Paintball right before I left for Basic Training and didnt get back into it until I arrived in Germany. I only own a Tippman 98 Custom for now, but I plan on getting back into the game here later on and look for my own marker. Personally im more for Scenario games rather than Speedball. Speedball deffinately has its high rush moments, but for my playing style its too fast for me at the time being... so I stick to just simple "storm the fort" type games :D. Its been a few months since I have looked into whats new on the market for new markers, but so far I have been a Spyder fan and even for fun some of the newer Tippmans look cool! Oh and I gotta root for the Naughty Dawgs since im from Oregon. Any other scenario players out there?

I have recently been watching the US Paintball Championships on ESPN2 late at night. It has really reminded me how much I always wanted to get into paintball.
Lately I have been looking at markers looking for a good newbie one. I think I may end up getting a Smart Parts Ion. It looks like a good starter marker.
I will probably have to start out just in the woods and stuff, but I'd eventually like to do Speedball. It just seems like it would suit my tastes more.

I have had a Tippman 98 custom for a few years now. It's a very durable, consistent(it is with my 14 inch barrel), and easy to clean gun. Unfortunately I don't get to go paintballing that much but its pretty fun.
Paintball is a serious sport?
I thought it was meant for schooltrips and the day off work.
Its much like Magic actually. With "woodsballing" (EI goofing around with friends, or doing scenerio driven battles) akin to casual Magic, and Speedball like playing competative tourney Magic.
It is also like it in that it is difficult, yet possible to become a pro player.

You have to be kidding me. Man, you can be professional in pretty much everything it seems.
I guess so. It is rather silly to not think Paintballing would have a Pro tour when card games do...lol. I mean, any sport/activity/whatever has people who want to be the best, thus making a tour possible.
At the person who wanted to start and liked the Smart Parts Ion, that is a very nice choice. They are reliable guns, and you can upgrade it pretty well and it can even cross-over into some Speedball. The stock gun is alright, parts of it are plastic, which is why it is alright, but you can upgrade all of that. I have seen some very nice Ion's with the Blackheart Board and some up's reguarding the body. (Changing it to a metal body, they have a lot to choose from really, and most of the metal ones are pretty nice, and not too expensive.)
Coincidentally, I went paintballing with a few friends from work today, and became addicted to it. Bad. I want to get my own equipment, and the only things we got to talk about were guns, so I'm coming here for advice. I'm obviously going to get the Smart Parts ion; it just makes sense. For the rest of the stuff though, I am clueless of what to get.

The other very important thing is your goggles. It's important that they feel good on you and don't obstruct your view in any way.
And you will need real Paintballing goggles, as regular ones will fog up from the activity.

Well, I should hope that part would be fairly obvious. I also know that some tight fitting gloves don't hurt either. What I'm more curious about though, is the necessity of camo/padding/other gear when playing, as well as what brand names to go for or stay away from. By the way, I love your banner, oh so very much.

Well, what is your price range? Because they have some very nice packages on eBay for an Ion, a nitrous tank, and a Halo B hopper (Will load balls faster than you can shoot, but is a very good thing to have, well worth the $100 price tag) and stuff like that, Just look for Smart Parts Ion on eBay, and you will find a lot.
I love paintball, and one of my friends' Dad owns a paintball place. I try to go as often as I can, but I dont have my own gun, so rentals can be kinda expensive.
The best was when my friend and I were playing CS style, and we brought paintbrushes. We'd shoot people's goggles and then run up to them and pain them with the brush while yelling "Humiliation". Haha, good times.
I absolutely hate getting hit in th ewrist or calf though. Seriously, those are the worst places to get hit.
yup, good times playing paintball, fun stuff
You wanna know what's not fun... airsoft. Seriously, it;s like painball but it genuinely hurts. Like it hurst so much that it ceases to be fun. Painball for life

Let's just say that with very little exception, price tag is not an issue. The only thing I worry about eBay is that the things I buy may not be brand new. That and if something breaks or gets lost, I have to pay for parts AND labour, and that isn't cheap.
Edit: Also note that I live in Canada, and the auction that you're talking about only ships to US.

Ahh, well, I will keep an eye out for you. I look around there a lot. So you are wanting a FULL package right? Like Mask, Gun, Tank, Hopper, stuff like that?
I'm actually going to be going to a local store on Saturday to buy my stuff, so really the two questions now are 1) what equipment should I buy and what can I get cheaper (ie. gloves, pants, etc.), and 2) what brands should I buy for the equipment I DO buy? I know I'm going to buy an ion, but what about masks, hoppers, and the like?

Well, some definitly good brands are:
Planet Eclipse
Dye
Empire
umm yeah Smart Parts (Ion's maker) is pretty good
I would buy:
Ion
Empire Reloader B (Or Halo B, I just like the Reloader B more)
Nitrous/HPA Tank (Or Co2 if really nessicary)
NXe Pack (For pods)(If for speedball and the like)
nVader Mask, or Proteus, or about anything by Dye or Empire or the like. (Just get a mask that is small, but still covers your face)
Umm, I like Dye Pants, but about anything will work.

My dear friend ... that's why you dress in LAYERS. I love airsoft. I've never paintballed in my life, but there's this new place in the area I live in where there's a new airsoft/paintball arena. I cannot wait !!! I wonder if they need help there ...

Airsoft = No fun, unless you play it in the summer (Or in someone's house) with only shorts and a t shirt on. (With some sort of eye protection too.)

Its pretty fun but its also pretty expensive. Once I get a job I'm buying a gun.
