I just saw FF: Advent Children. (Rent, not own. ITs impossible to buy)
Wow.
Despite a lack of storyline the animation was fantastic and the fight scenes were very cool. Anyone who played FF7 (and really who hasn't on here) will enjoy some part of this show.

We live in a country were ~50% of the populace believe public schooling is a socialist conspiracy and that being called Einstein is an insult. We could try and fix it, but unfortunately the other 50% don't believe in euthanasia.
I watched a part of it on my friends PSP without sound and seen that it was nonstop action. It looked cool, great animation. The storyline is really bad, which is why I didn't mind not listening to the sound.
Maybe you'll get Archenemy cards in your Duel Decks From The Vault: Deck Builder's Toolkit All-Foil Duels of the Planeswalkers Downloadable Content Expansion (Tactics Edition).
The storyline isn't that bad. One of the reasons why it's perceived as "bad" is because it's short. Had it been another 30-60 min longer, the storyline would have been much more expansive.
As for me, I loved it. It trully wa awesome, every second. Bets part is the fight between Cloud and Spehiroth. Omnislash version 5 is the best!
Oh thank god, we only have about twenty or so threads on this movie. I was hoping someone would start another one.

Apparently, according to a few other forums I visit, it's not Omnislash, but Cherry Blossom, his ultimate attack in Final Fantasy Tactics. I had fun trying to pick out all of Cloud's other Limit Breaks, though. I was able to pick out Braver, Climhazzard, Cross-Slash, and Blade Beam.
Personally, I thought the Sephiroth fight felt a little tacked on. It was cool, but not as cool as Tifa's fight in the church, or the battle at the City of the Ancients.
Anyway, I own the copy. Actually, I got it half a week early at one of the local Anime stores. Good stuff, either way, in a purely "popcorn movie" sort of way. Too bad that the Last Order OVA wasn't included on the extras disk, though.
The story was so putrid it actually lowered my enjoyment of the visuals. I felt like my memory of FF7 had been defiled by watching it.
How so, exactly? All it does is build off of minor loose ends left in the game's story (while unfortunately shoehorning Sephiroth into it again), in ways that are pretty much defined in-game as well. It doesn't mess with any of the established continuity, either.
I liked the story, though alot of it went unexplained. Even if the story was bad, I'd still watch it just for the graphics. Talk about mindblowing. Best CG I've ever seen. It almost looks completely real a few times.
Several things spring to mind when I read this thread...
First, the story did suck, and the stories in the games a pretty lame and drawn out, too...and don't get me started on that dreck called FF: The Spirits Within. Most of it comes from Japanese ideas of story and pacing as well as their spiritual beliefs. Japanese films and storytelling are quite different than American (westernized culture). Why do you think so many non-US made movies are remade? US audiences don't have the patience to sit through most of it. Now, before you say "I like japanese movies, I'd sit through them" thank about the average person you see at the theaters and ask yourself if itd be easier (cheaper) to buy the rights to the completed film, make new sub-titled prints or dub to english soundtracks, or if it'd just be easier to remake it for US audiences.
Second, I loved the action and I think the movie was pretty cool overall. I just hate all that spirits and life force of the planet crap.
Third, to everyone who has referred to computer animation as 'graphics', I want to kick you in the crotch. That drives me nuts. It's graphics in a sense, yes, but graphics is a term reserved almost solely to video games. In a film like FFAC it's animation you're apreciating, not the rate at which your system can output polygons, etc. In a movie like the Hulk (yes someone did say to me once there was 'good graphics' of the hulk), it's CG animation. I hate (absolutely freaking hate) when people call it graphics in a movie. I'm not trying to offend anyone, but it really bugs me because it's animation and visual effects. It's not a video game, even when it's based on one.
I'm love this movie! I maybe one of the few that actually liked the weird storyline - until Kadaj actually transformed into Sephiroth. It made sense in a weird otherworldly way since it was a movie you truely had to get lost in to understand it but it did seem rather tacked on.
The action was pretty damn good and definitely what made the movie IMO. Nothing more to say on it cause it's all been said before there.

You do know that was the entire basis for the storyline of the game right?

You know, sometimes when a person, such as I, calls computer animation "graphics", they are lampooning the fact that the movie is all visuals, no depth. Also, the term graphics, while having a videogame connotation, doesn't necessarily refer only to video and computer games.

He he, I saw this move in japanese with subtitles some time ago, I thought it was pretty good. The story was okay, but I thought it was very cool, in grahics and content, I particularly liked the final bahamut battle, that was a good one.
Let me first preface this with the fact that I never played FF7, and what knowledge I had of its plot is second hand at best.
The story of the movie itself is bad if you consider it in therms of a complex, typical scifi/fantasy plot. However, that is not how I perceive the movie. I see it as a sort of grown-up fable, about coping with the past, and with the present. A fable doesn't have to make coherant rational sense, it exists to demonstrate a theme or lesson, etc. Yes, the plot itself was little more than just connecting material between action bits, but it's the Cloud's development over the course of the movie that really makes it good.
You do know that was the entire basis for the storyline of the game right?
First, thanks for assuming I'm a complete retard...:-/
Yes, I know it's the basis for the game, that's why I put the text on the fastest possible speed and mash the circle button through all the dialog when I play. I do that for all of the FF games. I think FF9 was the only one that I read a substantial portion of the story.
And don't get me started on the absurdity of the FFX story (2 of the characters are dead!?! Why do I need pheonix downs then?!?!?:o).
(2 of the characters are dead!?! Why do I need pheonix downs then?!?!?:o).
Phoenix Downs cure "KO" status, not permanent death.
And if you're skipping through all the story like that, what's the point in playing an RPG in the first place? Just play some mindless button masher like Street Fighter, it'll be just as stimulating...

After watching it once in english, I felt that the dub job was pretty bad.
