I noticed that we have a few people around who partake in the greatness that is Slayer. As a way to pay homage to a fantastic group of musicians, here is a new place for it. There is just one rule:
Thou Shalt Not Slayerhate. My favorite Slayer album is "Diabolus in Musica". I feel that even though they had to compromise lyrically and could not be quite as direct, the music more than made up for it. Plus, there's also the guy on the cover who reminds me of the freaky guy from the remake of House on Haunted Hill. Anyway, the drums on Diabolus are basically Bostaph at his best.
Which brings up another good point; who is the better drummer?
IMO, Bostaph is the better overall as he incorporates more skill into his beats and all, with a very diverse signature. Lombardo, OTOH, can kick double better than anyone else. His drumming with Slayer sounds pretty sloppy at times, but he has grown over the years of his absence and become much better. If anybody has heard Grip Inc., they would know.
I have been to see them live 47 times and they always put on a helluva show. In fact, I was at the "God Hates Us All" album release/signing on 9/11. That was pretty crazy because I was just getting home from that when the planes hit.
If anyone has anything to add, I welcome you to the (figuratively speaking) PIT!!!
This alone is reason enough why they should garner their own thread. Although, if you insist on moving it or something hideous like that, I guess I'll survive. Barely.

It's all good. I have every US release (not all the origs), but not imports and singles. I am just starting to look for the vinyls to enhance the collection. I figure once I hit my 100th Slayer show, I will make a collage with the stubs and hang it on my Slayer wall.
Hell yeah 47 times!!! When they tour US, they generally finish up in California and play several shows on consecutive nights within a day's drive of where I live. For instance, when they toured with Pantera in 2001, I saw 5 shows when they swung through here ( San Diego, Long Beach, Bakersfield, Las Vegas, Mesa). Unfortunately I've never seen Maiden live, although I shy away from the shrill vocals a little.
I love Slayer very much, although I've never had the fortune of seeing them outside of the one time I met them at a signing for Diablous in Musica, wich actually is my least favourite album, no offense. I thought they were going for a more commercial sound on that one, Love To Hate Me almost sounded like rap-metal too me.
I too own all the official Slayer albums. As for my favourite album, it would probably be South Of Heaven, although it played no role in my choice of residence and is simple a coincedence. Reign In Blood and Divine Intervention are also fantastic.
As for my favourite songs:
Necrophiliac
Hell Awaits
Spill The Blood
Dead Skin Mask
South Of Heaven
Ghost Of War
Sex, Murder, Art
War Ensemble
Altar Of Sacrifice
Tormentor
Black Magic
Chemical Warfare
Chriogenics
I've still not gotten War At The Warfield or the Still Reigning DVDs yet though since im very poor. Kerry King was actually playing and signing for the release of War At The Warfield in my local indie record store, but I didnt have the fortune of going.
War at the Warfield is probably not worth getting... I have it and the live footage is poor. There is the video for Bloodline though, but that doesn't justify the cost to me. No offense taken about Diabolus; it is most people's least favorite. I just think it sounds the best quality-wise and so it hits really hard in my car. I pack a couple 12's in the trunk.
The older stuff still sounds pretty good although it is not as loud and clean sounding. And God Hates Us All has a very annoying static crackle throughout the album resulting from probably too much gain on the distortion. My favorite song is probably 213 from Intervention. Lyrically, it is truly hardcore subject matter.

But might as well not ruin the moment, I only like one slayer song "south of heaven" other than that, i'm not a huge metalhead (ack)
