I know some homeschooled kids too. The 'Walker kids'.
Their eldest daughter Jenna went to college and is married, now has a child, but her parents still require her to come back to the house each week to do her chores.
She doesn't even live there anymore and she has to do chores.
All those kids are screwed up.
And yeah, they are 'good christians with good christian values.'
The teenage son has a bone disease and almost died because his mom wouldn't give him his medicine. She wanted to use 'faith healing'. He was sh*tting blood.
Jenna doesn't lactate for some reason. Her baby is starving to death because Jenna's mother insists that Jenna should feed her child in the way God intended. That baby hasn't eaten anything since it was born two weeks ago.
Except for Jenna, who is quite intelligent and has a passion for learning, all the Walker kids are illiterate. By that, I mean that one of their daughters is 14 and still doesn't know how to read. Jenna had to teach herself how to read.
The Walkers went to see one of the Matrix movies. During a sex scene, the parents told their kids to cover their eyes. They take their kids to a movie that contains lots of shooting and death, and they tell their kids not to watch the nudity.
Did I mention that there are eight Walker kids? Well... more than that if you count all the stillborn ones. And they live in a hellhole. The kitchen sink is filled with dishes and the floor is covered with heaps of toys and rotting food. They have rats. With small children in the house.

Jenna was for the most part self taught. She does go to college. She's a smart girl. She might be able to do something really good with her life. So not all people who are homescooled are complete losers. In fact, there are some success stories. Problem is that the rest of the Walker kids are poorly educated. Thats one of the problems with homeschooling kids. Parents can just fill their kid's heads with whatever they want while omitting certain subjects that the parents don't want to cover. Some parents though are very good teachers and manage to give their kids some good education. Some parents use homeschooling to shelter their children from the world.

Well, I'm American so I can not vote in your poll.
But I would have picked three if given the choice.
My view, simply put, is that most of the world is developing better and better relations (with a few exceptions), and that the US is being left behind since thier global politics is so unwavering and self centered. China is trying very hard to increase it's global relations, various South American countries are growing stronger in unity, Europe is, as a whole growing stronger. Meanwhile, US is still trying to play the bully on the block, and slowly the rest of the world is realizing that it's not so impressed.
It's pitifull really. Especially if you ever see how the US media attempts to portray our possition in global politics.
It's sad because US news has obvious propaganda, that most thinking people dismiss... But then it has more tricky propaganda.
Lerabu, if you rely on Michael Moore as your sole source of information, you are going to get a seriously distorted picture. Saying he has an "agenda" is like saying Jack the Ripper had "issues."

Currently four USA soldiers are standing trial in Baghdad for the rape and subsequent murder of a 14 year old girl. What a fine example of the "American Dream", of western civilisation and of the good that the USA can bring to the world. Fantastic!
Because obviously everyone in the military is like those four soldiers. In fact, everyone in the USA is like them! Nice strawman.

In Micheal Moore's Fahrenheit 9/11, american soldier fire tank shells onto Iraqi cities, and come in and see that they actually killed, women, children and old men, and all they have to say is "Oh ****... what did we do?". Nice.
What would you have said? Have you ever been in the military? Have you ever been in armed conflict? No? Ok, so basically you have no idea what it's like being them, and have no idea what was going through their head at the time.
Quote from lerabu »
In the same film, it is shown that the "almighty" american president has been warned by your secret services of the possible attack on the twin towers, but didn't want to read it because the title was, and I quote, "too vague"
Again, I'll ask, have you ever been in a position of power? You really have no idea what it's like to be the President of the United States. I don't either, which is why I'm willing to give him some leeway.

But would you really want to become "better friends" with someone by letting them do what they want? If you had a friend who hated all use of guns, and someone was about to shoot them, would you kill the attacker? What if they hated you after that? It's not a perfect analogy, but it's good. The people that I know where we don't talk unless we're passing in the hall, and if they wanted to go and do something that would hurt them, I wouldn't do anything about it... those are not my friends. Instead, my friends are the people that, if they're gonna go out and drink themselves to death, I'm gonna try and save them.

Actually, the whole "bullying" thing is taken way out of proportion, due to anti-American sentiment being directed at one incident, that, although I disagree with it, is an isolated case. America runs up a huge deficit due to significant amounts of money that other Western nations loan it. It's an easy guess as to where much of the money goes.
Do you think that these other nations would loan this money if they didn't realize that perhaps, it is not so bad for them that a country such as America has troops.
Of course they disliked the Iraq war, and I don't blame you Europeans one bit. This was a situation where the U.S. acted in a very unpredictable manner and broke all the rules. But to say that the U.S. is a liability to other nations, or that it is "backwards" in it's international relations, is going to require some serious looking into the situation.

You are wondering why the USA has such a bad reputation worldwide and why even the USA's allies are turning a cold shoulder towards them in such matters as the war between Israel and Lebanon?
Do tell, what allies are you talking about. All of our enimies will hate anything we do so I dont care at all about what they think. And France is shockingly antisemetic.
The USA has meddled its fingers and imposed its imperialistic ways into regions of the worlds where they do not respect the local culture, religion, chidren, old men and women.
How is setting up an independant government and fighting for human rights imperialistic and culturally insinsitive. So if you lived 400 years ago and came upon the Aztecs murdering infants, women, retarted people, as well as anyone else for that matter on tops of temples it would be wrong to stop them as it is their "culture"?
The USA comes to protect its economical interests just like Europe did back in the days of Imperialism.
Yes I would agree that is part of it, but thats what makes the world go round. I'm not saying its a good standalone reason to go to war but its a good plus.
Currently four USA soldiers are standing trial in Baghdad for the rape and subsequent murder of a 14 year old girl. What a fine example of the "American Dream", of western civilisation and of the good that the USA can bring to the world. Fantastic!
No that is a terrible example of the "American Dream" and what good we can dream in the world. No sane person will admit that everyone in their country is good.
I just remember reading this article about a Croatian man raping some girl... so im pretty sure all Croatian men are rapists.

If I was in front of a microphone and I knew I was going to be heard by millions of people I don't even think I could get two words out. In my book he does pretty well.
But isn't that actually the problem? Not to Bush-bash here, I'm sure more than enough people do so already, but he, as a president, as the chief representative of your country, is supposed to be good with a microphone in front of him. It's his job.
I feel this almost every time I turn on the news. I've studied historic speeches and we all know what they sound like. You just don't hear inspiring, well made speeches like you can read of in the past. I honestly wonder why they stopped occuring. Many world leaders hire professional assistants to help write the damn things, but yet, the only time I ever hear an effective, inspirational speech is when I watch HBO or some other nonsense.
But isn't that actually the problem? Not to Bush-bash here, I'm sure more than enough people do so already, but he, as a president, as the chief representative of your country, is supposed to be good with a microphone in front of him. It's his job. You might want to argue that PR is not really the president's job, but in this age of mass-media, if you are the leader of a country, you better be able to express yourself in front of an audience and, in fact, your whole nation. And I do not mean "be able to read from a teleprompter". But, meh, that's just me and my romantic illusions of competence
You have a good point and yeah he really should have better public speaking skills. I just get annoyed when people correlate speaking skills with raw intelligence.

Why? Because you don't like the guy? Because he tells some unpalatable truths about the administration? The idiot backlash against Michael Moore is based mostly upon the fact that- for once- someone is actually attacking the republicans with a weapon they have never been fond of: the truth. If you want to make yourself not sound like one of these idiots, actually address the issue he raises instead of just going "MOORE'S A COMMY, HE TELLS LIES". I suspect you would rather just dismiss it out of hand as you lack the ability to rebuff the argument properly.
Why? Because he makes movies and calls them documentaries just because one out of ten things he says is a solid truth. The rest are made to look true from that other truth.
In more words: Sacrificing humans (ripping organs out while they were still alive) was an everyday occurance. When they started to run out of their own rabble to kill they started wars with other tribes to get more stock to slaughter (using special arrowheads to maim and not kill.) They would have parties for the crippled and mentally retarded and give them many gifts of stone necklaces and bracelets. Then they would push them into the sea. When you won a game in the town square your reward was not getting killed.
Again, it was a very good thing.
By the way, killing the aztecs happened on a way that was also against every basic of human rights.
Cortez was no angel but dont give him too much credit. The diseases he unknowingly brought over killed the natives.
And what do we see now? the USA is also doing things against human rights! In the name of protecting human rights.

Hezbolah shoots its rockets at civilians on purpose and hides behind their own people like cowards.
I would say all of the above if I had only those terms to express my personal opinion about the Americans.
Take the word "American". There are Central Americans, North American Canadians, and South Americans, not just United States of America Americans. Evidently this is a display of American yet again thinking only of themselves, i.e. their insularity.
As warmongers the United States have it best. They are more belligerent than all other groups, whether militant or not, including Hezbollah, Al Qaeda, and others. Why is this so? The Administration, as omniscient as it seems, is almost indifferent to others and the opinions of the people who it serves.

Actually, America most often refers to the country, America. "The Americas" refers to North and South America. "The United States of America" is the formal name of "America," a country, just as "The People's Republic of China" is the formal name of "China," a country.
Eh, actually no. America shouldn't refer to the country, but it should refer to the continent.

Jesus Christ dude, why did you have to stray away to ethics and morality? If you understand the concepts of ethics and morality, good job! (they are actually quite difficult to understand), but if you don't it is best that you don't meander to such a topic.
Firstly with regards to raping and stereotyping, both are bad. Secondly, raping, as wrong as it may seem, is actually socially, and culturably tolerated in certain cultures.

As wrong as the actions of the Army of Allah (Hezbollah, not Hezbolah) seem, it is because it is psychological egoism as they seek to promote their best interests, which in this case, to destroy Israel.

Best comment ever. In all seriousness, what is wrong with using Michael Moore's name? Please justify why you have used this argument in an attempt to oust whomever that you were rebutting. Is it because Mike Moore's documentary Farenheit 911 was aimed to provoke thought? Especially in favour of the anti-"War on Terrorism"?
Despite this statement of my belief, the Americans are as great as any other peoples. Their education system is not the best, but they have the IV League.
Edit: Good job answering and rebutting Pacman (post 451).:) Yes, who wouldn't use camoflague in warfare, if possible? Of course, Hezbollah doesn't want to be sitting ducks and wait to be shot so they hide within the population, even if it means those who they are defending must pay a price.
evrything the enemy does is what cowards do. And evrything your side does is called 'tactic'.
Dropping bombs while you don't care about what you are bombing is also something for cowards.
You call them cowards, but what do you expect? Of course they are going to hide themself, they are not stupid.
It's not easy if your enemies don't fight following your rules of war.
No.
The Germans and Italians were our enimes in WWII and they fought us military vs. military. They may have been evil at the top, but the Generals and soldiers did not hide behind their own people. I would say they fought bravely, even though they were our enimies. The Japanese soldiers were extremely brave and dediated, but they were our enimies.
Israel is presented with a choice. Hezbollah is firing rockets at its civilain populace from homes filled with women and children. They have the option of destroying the building and killing Mr. Jihad and his innocent children and wife or let Mr. Jihad continue to kill Israeli innocents indefinately. I for one would bomb the building. Better 5 innocents on their side then 40 and more on my side.
If Hezbollah is disarmed, there would be peace.
If Israel is disarmed, there would be no more Israel.
But anyways, this thread is about America not Israel right?
That's what I meant to say.
The enemies that are defeated were brave. The enemies you couldn't defeat were cowards (Vietnam... also hiding).
No, we could have won the war in Vietnam if we werent so worried about politics and civilians. We could have firebombed every stronghold and destroyed everything and everyone. We would have won, but thousands upon thousands would have died.
The same with Israel. Israel could make south Lebanon a wasteland and remove Hezbollah from the face of the earth. But they dont because they actually care for the people of Lebanon. Meanwhile Hezbollah is launching rockets into Israel trying to do as much damage as they can no matter what it is.

No, no, no about United States not Hezbollah/Israel crisis! And yes, you are quite right about Hezbollah getting flattened by Israel, even with its humongous foot soldier army. And yes, you are correct with your statement about Hezbollah indifferent about civilian casualties. They seek the annihilation of Israel.
Quote from Pacman »
About Vietnam. Yes, the US could have destroyed evrything.
But there was no way to win Vietnam. destroying evrything also means destroying your allies.
About Vietnam? Well, the 2nd Indochinese Conflict (historically correct that is) was the result of conflicting interests (Communism vs. Capitalism; nationalism vs. French imperialism), and the U.S. had almost no right, at first, to fight it. However, when Uncle Ho Chi Minh decided to masque his nationalism in the colours of communism, the U.S. were alarmed with this discovery, and along with the Domino Theory proposed by Eisenhower, they decided to commit troops to 'Nam.
With regards to your comment about destroying everything, the U.S. virtually blew what they knew as 'Nam to smithereens.
Thus, with these arguments, my point is that Americans are the World-Police.
(*Maybe it is best that this is in General Discussion or something.)

If you can provide evidence for the "rape children" accusation, I would love to see it.
that's correct, but we are now talking about the defence of Israel by the US.
If I read what you write, I ask myself how huge the difference is between our media.
If you write it like this, then you're right.
But what I've heard is that most innocent victims are on the side of Lebanon.
Israel is bombing hospitals, full of innocent people, because they think (I say THINK) that there are a some terrorists in that building.
'collateral' damage...
That's the arrogancy why so many people don't like the US.
if you want peace, you have to disarm, yes that's true, but you have to disarm evrybody.
The same with nuclear weapons. If the US government wants to get rid of nuclear weapons, they should start with their own weapons first!!! and please start with the nuclear weapons in our country. Not like they care in the US that the public opinion here hates these weapons next to our door...
The world can't trust the US, certainly not when they are violating the basics of human rights themself!

He's being tried in United States courts for murder.

But it's not something we can blame the US, it happens in evry army.

You can't fight a war without violating human rights. It's a good thing if you try to minimize it, but you have to be honest too.
If such an accident happens and all you are going to say is: "it's an isolated incident. We punish the person and that's all." What kind of signal are you giving then?
In this case, it's good to make this a huge story, so evrybody knows about it, and evrybody will also know that this is not tolerated!!
Even if you are a psycho, this is not tolerated.
Um... what is our country doing about these incidents that is wrong? We ARE showing everyone that this is not tolerated.

But then it has more tricky propaganda.
candidus inperti; si nil, his utere mecum.
What would you have said? Have you ever been in the military? Have you ever been in armed conflict? No? Ok, so basically you have no idea what it's like being them, and have no idea what was going through their head at the time.
Again, I'll ask, have you ever been in a position of power? You really have no idea what it's like to be the President of the United States. I don't either, which is why I'm willing to give him some leeway.
It's true! So he's not the best public speaker, so... let's not be friends with the USA!
Hey, you! Yeah, you behind the computer screen! You're unconstitutional.

But to say that the U.S. is a liability to other nations, or that it is "backwards" in it's international relations, is going to require some serious looking into the situation.
now begins the thousand years of REIGN OF BLOOD!
good start
Do tell, what allies are you talking about. All of our enimies will hate anything we do so I dont care at all about what they think. And France is shockingly antisemetic.
Yes I would agree that is part of it, but thats what makes the world go round. I'm not saying its a good standalone reason to go to war but its a good plus.
No that is a terrible example of the "American Dream" and what good we can dream in the world. No sane person will admit that everyone in their country is good.
I just remember reading this article about a Croatian man raping some girl... so im pretty sure all Croatian men are rapists.
You used Michael Moore's name. Arguement thrown out.
More of the same.
If I was in front of a microphone and I knew I was going to be heard by millions of people I don't even think I could get two words out. In my book he does pretty well.
You have a good point and yeah he really should have better public speaking skills. I just get annoyed when people correlate speaking skills with raw intelligence.
Why? Because he makes movies and calls them documentaries just because one out of ten things he says is a solid truth. The rest are made to look true from that other truth.
In not so many words, YES.
Cortez was no angel but dont give him too much credit. The diseases he unknowingly brought over killed the natives.
And what do we see now? the USA is also doing things against human rights! In the name of protecting human rights.
Secret prisons all over the world with no laws and no rights for the prisoners.
[CARD]First make the bombs to drop on the kids in Lebanon, and after that dropping food for the people who survived...
[/quote]
Maybe if Hezbolah would stop hiding in villages and civilian homes then Israel would be able to have a tiny bit of error without killing civilians. Israel does everything it can to minimize inoccent deaths (dropping phamplets telling them where there going to bomb and to get out, using prescicion guided bombs for max accuracy, not making Beriut look like Dresden like they could). Hezbolah shoots its rockets at civilians on purpose and hides behind their own people like cowards.
Eh, actually no. America shouldn't refer to the country, but it should refer to the continent.
Edit: Jesus Christ dude, why did you have to stray away to ethics and morality? If you understand the concepts of ethics and morality, good job! (they are actually quite difficult to understand), but if you don't it is best that you don't meander to such a topic.
Firstly with regards to raping and stereotyping, both are bad. Secondly, raping, as wrong as it may seem, is actually socially, and culturably tolerated in certain cultures.
As wrong as the actions of the Army of Allah (Hezbollah, not Hezbolah) seem, it is because it is psychological egoism as they seek to promote their best interests, which in this case, to destroy Israel.
Again, :gonk::sweat:.
:xd:
Some do. Ideally, they are caught and called to account.
candidus inperti; si nil, his utere mecum.
You say this as if these are not isolated incidents that occur very infrequently and have no public investigation being leveled against them, but are blown out of proportion by a media which thrives on sensationalist stories for publicity and $$$.
If you can provide evidence for the "rape children" accusation, I would love to see it.

I take it you haven't heard about this guy Private First-Class Steven D. Green?
You know, the guy who was about to be discharged from the army for a personality disorder? This guy who, with the help of some of his buddies, broke into a 14 year old girl's house, killed her family, raped her, shot her in the head, then tried to burn the house down and blame it on insurgents?
He's being tried in United States courts for murder.
Oh, right. The whole story is being blown out of proportion because we all know Americans never rape children or kill families. Was that what you were about to say?
There is an imposter among us...
Yes, I have heard and read about him. He is being prosecuted by the United States Federal Court. And he is also one crazy, messed-up-in-the-head, incredibly violent person according to most people who ever knew him. Once again, an isolated incident. I never said Americans do not rape, murder, or commit despicable acts. I said don't make it sound like the entire U.S. armed forces participates in these activities, like our media loves to portray.

i agree. these people have been mortal and spiritual enemies for 1000s of years. i dont think that the people of israel at all feel for the lebanon peoples. watch the movie "Munich". its bassed on a true story, and is quite accurate. this will explain just a little bit.
