Do you prefer slim and sleek with a 14 inch screen or big and bold with a 17 inch screen? I prefer a large laptop cuz it has enough room for a numeric keypad.
Yeah, it entirely depends on how you are using it. Are you on a college campus where you'll have to lug it around all day? Go slim.
Is it something that's going to sit at home 95% of the time and you'll take it on trips with you or something? Go large.
I had a BIG laptop in college (17" Screen, top of the line gaming laptop - my one treat to myself), and while it was awesome being able to play games during downtime, it was AWFUL to lug around with me all day. If I had to go back, I'd buy a 14" for sure.
This is an eternal dillemma of mine. I lugged around a 17" laptop that was a "desktop replacement" class for 3 years.
I then purchased a 13" laptop which was easy as pie to move around with, but everytime I had to do serious work on it, I got eyestrain.
I went 15" recently which is turning out to be a fantastic compromise.
And yes, it al depends on your usage. When I hadn't any money and I was constantly travelling between houses, I bought a large laptop for my gaming needs. Now I don't have to travel anymore as much, my netbook is amazing. I can put it in my normal bag, whip it out in a bus or train without making the person next to me having issues with it and watch a film or something.

We have laboured long to build a heaven, only to find it populated with horrors.
A tiny screen isn't going to cut it if I want to play games, nor a tiny keyboard if I want to write.
A large screen is pointless if all I want to do websurf while in a mall.
However, most of my on the go wants/needs are met by my tablet. So, I wouldn't bother with a small laptop. I wouldn't bother with a large laptop, either, because if I want to play games and have overall bigger space a desktop offers as much power for lower price.
