Actuly I could EASLY see Anng opening up say a 1000 FT chasm for 5 square Miles then buring them incapacitating them form lack of oxygen then letting them back out as soon as they are incapacitate.
Ah but that is a different statement entirely than your original point of opening up said chasm, filling it with volcanic magma and swirling it around with hurricane force winds like a celestial McFlurry.
I'm perfectly willing to accept a non-lethal version of that scenario.

"But Faith is my Sword. Truth my Shield. Knowledge my Armor."
Just on the hiding plan: Hermione in book seven casts a series of spells, regularly, which make the group non-detectable in most senses. It's not perfect but, then, she's a much less experienced wizard the dumbledore.
I don't think either side has an iron-clad path to victory, but I think the following: Captain planet has a LOT more weaknesses than replicarter, and people were willing to assume the wizards could *trivially* beat her. The notion that dumbledore doesn't know an "air into oil slick" spell or similar is absurd.
Much like how comic book characters are nerfed we can ONLY use the spells we have seen dumbledoor cast himself. not extrapolations. Also while CP and Aang will act in character so will team wizard, These guys characters are NOT the "lets get stuff done RIGHT now go getter" more of " lets let OTHER people get stuff done for us" kind.

Woah woah woah. I declare BS on that statement. There is a huge difference between "in comic book #1435 he flew through the sun and punched a hole in the moon" and "this is a common spell in that world that students use therefore a teacher would also know it". Your argument would be like saying "well we have never seen Magneto make a sword out of metal therefore he cant!" or "well wolverine has never been hit by a Star Wars blaster and therefore never healed from a blaster wound therefore his healing does not work against Star Wars blasters!". I would agree that he should not be able to use the spells that the Half-blood prince invents since Dumbledore probably would have never seen them... but to say he can't use common spells taught to every student is just silly.
On your second statement: The wizards dont have anyone to guide in this situation therefore they will act. They have both been shown to get dirty and fight when they need to. I agree that they will probably try non-lethal means as much as possible but I think that is their best approach to this fight anyway.
New idea: During the prep time Dumbledore wipes up a double batch of the Luck potion seen in the books that makes the drinkers extremely lucky.
New idea: During the prep time Dumbledore wipes up a double batch of the Luck potion seen in the books that makes the drinkers extremely lucky.
Felix Felicis? First off, Dumbledore takes that potion, and I quote: "Only recreationally. You see, I believe one creates one's own luck." (directly quoting Dumbledore from Book 6), and second of all, it's one of the most complicated, difficult, and dangerous of potions to "whip up", as even if he were to use Snape's recipe, it should take at least six months to develop, as seen in chapter 24 of the same book I'm referencing the quote on. Dumbledore is fantastic and all that, but there's no way he can create a batch to use in thirty minutes.
I argue that this simply isn't the case, as both wizards will be VERY careful to ensure that whatever win condition they use will NOT be a lethal one, and thus, NOT trigger the Avatar state.
Obviously people disagree with this assertion, but how they can do so logically and consistently with Aangs character escapes me.
Well, I suppose we just have different opinions as to what constitutes a "life-threatening situation", so I think that's really up to the Avatar State to decide.
Or Aang could just, you know, activate it conciously. I normally argue that Aang would use the Avatar State as a last resort or when his life is in extreme danger, but there's always the option of simply choosing to enter it within the first five minutes of the battle and going full power from that point onwards.
Of course, this is also quite out of character, but the point is that there are still a variety of options left to him if he really wants to use all his powers... combined.
(Disillusionment Charm)
Description: Causes the target to become invisible, or close to it.
Seen/mentioned: First in Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone, when Dumbledore tells Harry that he does not need a cloak to become invisible. In Order of the Phoenix, Moody casts this charm on Harry.[OP Ch.3, 4] Xenophilius Lovegood mentions, in Deathly Hallows, that Invisibility Cloaks are sometimes created by casting a Disillusionment Charm on a regular cloak.[DH Ch.21] -http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_spells_in_Harry_Potter
So... Dumbledore can make himself and Gandalf invisible without Harry's cloak.
Sure! However, as was pointed out by the source I linked to in my last post, these spells are strictly inferior to Harry's cloak, and even people under Harry's cloak are not completely undetectable. As for the spells Hermione cast over the times they were travelling to destroy the rest of Voldemort's Horcruxes, they had to stay in one place and not move out of the boundaries (like the charms used to protect Hogwarts from outsiders) for that to take effect, and it also takes a while to set it up. Dumbledore can raise those spells (this is actually one of the few spells Dumbledore has been shown to set up and remove in the books), but they are better for immobile targets like buildings or tents, rather than two wizards who want to be invisible and mobile at the same time.
Seriously if Dumbledore was so amazingly powerful you would think he could have solo'd voldemort or at
least faked his own death. (yes I'm aware it was necessary)
.
In Dumbledore's defense, this is explained better in the book (and no, his death wasn't actually necessary):
Dumbledore was going to die anyway because his hand was "tainted" by dark magic while he attempted to destroy one of Voldemort's Horcruxes, and the "infection" from the curse would have spread through his body, killing him slowly and painfully. Even assuming he faked his death, he'd die in a few months afterwards, so he decided to use this as an opportunity to make a grand plan instead (and to make his death less painful than it has to be). This wasn't explained in the movies very well, sadly.
Also, there's no point in soloing Voldemort, because he'd only return in due time. Only Harry can truly destroy him. Much like Gandalf is more powerful than he lets on and could probably perform the task of taking the One Ring to Mt. Doom, it's just not his mission to do so.
I participate yearly in a survival challenge in which I am dropped off in the wilderness with 1 days rations, a knife, and no other supplies, and have to find my way home. This is typically several weeks hiking from civilization.
I have personally killed several bears in the course of this challenge, with the use of snares and other traps.
Remember that all four matches are still open this week to decide which teams go to the finals! By my count, two of these matches are still too close to be decisive, and the other two don't have gaps which are too far to bridge! This is your last chance to lobby for your favored teams and vote for the ones you want before the final matches next week.

I believe the problem that we have come across here is that within a weeks time everyone who normally participates in these matches has participated, said their piece, and except for a select few instances, everyone has remained rigidly in defense of their chosen team from their original posts.
There's nothing wrong with that, but I believe both sides of each Versus thread have said almost every argument that could be said in favor of their teams victory, and no counter argument has convinced us that we are wrong.
So at this point, I believe it is up to the poll votes. As the post votes have come to a standstill.

"But Faith is my Sword. Truth my Shield. Knowledge my Armor."
I agree with the Doctor. After a week all of the arguments have been made it's now down to what people believe is the most likely.
Will the wizards go invisible? How effectively can Aang detect them? How much does aparating come into play? Will the wizards be able to make enough pollution to cripple Capatin planet? How effectively can he be healed? Will the Wizards be able to hit the other team with paralysis effects before they can be hit with elemental damage? How effectively can they shield themselves?
I agree with the above, people don't debate to change the minds of people they are debating, they debate to change the minds of the masses. we have said our piece and shown in clear cut evience why by your powers combine and team wizards would win based on the respective arguments. I see no point to the 2week time limit.

Thank you! Damn right I do. My master thesis defense and final oral exam is tomorrow! I'll be too tied up today to do anything on the forums.
But thank you all for your feedback, and I apologize if this decision seems a tad illogical. It felt like a good idea at the time. But I will still leave the threads open for the time being, and maybe I'll close them on Friday if, indeed, there is no point in having them open a lot longer. On the other hand, this experiment did teach us that the finals probably shouldn't be longer than one week either (especially since now we know which eight teams which will show up anyway for the TOC/TOU, so...).
Of course, feedback welcome until then.

Incredibly close match! I'll be closing them in the next few minutes, but I think it's safe to say that team Wizard Guide will be moving to the finals.
