Welcome, one and all, to the Tournament of Champions! We’re down to our final four, and are now just a few matches away from the final round!
With this in mind, these matches will last twice as long as any regular match, giving each side plenty of time (two weeks) to vote and make their arguments!
One of the semifinal matches:
Team "By Your Powers Combined" - Captain Planet and Avatar Aang
vs.
Team "Wizard Guide" - Gandalf the White and Albus Dumbledore
The members of both teams are transported to a different dimension with all information about their opponents “uploaded” into their minds. They have 30 minutes to prepare and talk to each other (they don’t know anything about each other as teammates, save for any experience from previous matches of this same tournament), and will also have full access to any technology, magic, weaponry, resources, etc. which they would routinely be able to use from their respective universes. Teammates may share resources with each other. Afterwards, both teams are teleported to the randomly chosen plane, which has mystically sealed off so that none of them can escape the battlefield in any way. The team that manages to knock out and/or kill both members of the opposing team will be declared the winner. There is no time limit.
Write ups for both teams:
Team "By Your Powers Combined" - Captain Planet and Avatar Aang
Champion of Gaia, the spirit of the Earth, Captain Planet is the embodiment of the four classic Greek elements (Earth, Fire, Wind and Water) put into humanoid form through the power of Heart. He is a superhero who is bound to the physical realm of the planet, and can manipulate the elements to his will. In his universe, he combats villains who wish to use the planet for motives such as greed, power, or simply enjoying seeing the pain inflicted on society caused by environmental destruction. He gains power from the planet, but any forms of destruction to it weakens him severely. He is routinely assisted by the Planeteers, a group of young people united in diversity, armed each with a ring associated with each element which grants them their own powers, motivated by a common goal of saving the world, who can combine their powers to summon him, leaving Captain Planet to take on the battles that they would not be able to manage otherwise.
The Avatar is the spirit of the planet in human form, and is the only person in the world who can master the fighting traditions of all four of the classic Greek elements of his (or her, in this case, his) universe (Earth, Fire, Air and Water). He is as old as the deities who existed at the dawn of time, is born as an element "bender" under one of the four nations in a cycle, and eventually learns to master all the elements over the course of his life to act out his duty as the peacekeeper of the world. As if being the absolute master of the elements was not enough, the Avatar can be put into an "Avatar State" when in a life-threatening situation, causing him to have the power of all past Avatars simultaneously. This is the adult Avatar Aang in his prime, a child prodigy who became one of the greatest (if not the greatest) of the Avatars to have ever lived.
Both characters are paragons of their ideals, powered by the earth spirits of their respective universe, advocates of peace, harmony, spiritual and natural balance, and the greater good of the planet. Both characters are earth-shaking and incredibly powerful elemental controllers, assisted by a group of young people, tasked to take down threats capable of destroying the world. These two, if they ever met, would become great allies to each other in the never-ending quest for the protection of the world.
Team "Wizard Guide" - Gandalf the White and Albus Dumbledore
The most powerful wizards of their respective universes, both paragons for the forces of good, somewhat eccentric, and incredibly capable in dealing with dark opponents, these fantastic champions will use their wisdom, experience, and skills to outclass their opponents. While Gandalf is the more capable fighter in hand to hand combat, Albus has an array of vast magic up his sleeve as well. Together, they would be a formidable force for any who isn't ready for their magical onslaught.
Everyone knows Dumbledore dies on page 596... But we also know from Tolkien that Wizards don't really die. In death Dumbledore returns to Valinor. The Valar have a new task for their Wizards. Earth is entering a new age, an age of heroes. Some of those heroes are misguided and the Valar are sending the Wizard counsel to help guide them to a new age of peace. Gandalf the White is entrusted to help train the newest member of the Maiar, Dumbledore the Grey, as they guide Earth's new heroes against the forces of evil.
How do I vote for the team I like? Well, I'm glad you asked...
This tournament uses a “Dual-Voting System” in which every user on MTGS may vote twice, once on the poll of the thread, and once by posting on the thread itself (by explicitly stating “I vote for team *insert name* because *insert reason*” in a post on the thread). You may spread these votes as you wish (you can vote anonymously on the poll for one team, but express your vote publicly through a post for another), or use them both to vote for the same team, or only vote once (using either method). In the end, the total of both "poll" and "post" votes will be used to determine a winner. In the event of a tie between total votes, the team with the most votes posted publicly on the thread itself shall be declared the winner, and move on to the next round. You only have one week to vote (two weeks for the semi-finals and finals), and the poll automatically closes on Sunday, 12MN (GMT +1). Only posts that occur before that time will be counted as valid votes.

Now this is the first match team BYPC should legitimately win, gandalf is pretty much neutralised as anything he throws will be bent or absorbed.
The spirits of the earth have this one in the bag as no pollution available means aang and cap can go to town even though they shoulda lost round 1 !
Why ya gotta go there?
You think they shouldn't have won last round? Honestly, I think they've deserved to win every round they've fought. Sure, the Fight on Mirrodin probably should've turned the other way, but honestly, I thought they deserved to win Last round as well, considering ya know, Living Plane and such...

Now my opinion is they should have lost Mirrodin, but won the last one. Thats way the debate forum is awesome!
I am inclining for BYPC, but I'll wait for arguments in favor of WG
The wizards have managed to outwit their way past every opponent so far, so let's not forget how wise, intelligent, and clever they are. The adult Aang has a lot of wisdom, and is backed by the experiences of his past lives, but neither he nor Captain Planet are very well known for tactical genius nor overwhelming intellect. Also, creating pollution to harm Captain Planet is very easy to exploit, and the terrain does appear to have metallic palaces in it, so it's not a purely natural plane, not by any means.
Reminder: The semifinal matches will last for two weeks instead of one, so there is plenty of time (double as much, in fact) to research, make your cases, and vote! Take your time!

Those palaces are not metal but glass and act to create a musical melody as the great winds rush through them, the wizards are seriously outclassed on this plane .
I doubt dumbledore and gandalf can muster much pollution and Aang can just open a huge gaping chasm then fly up with cap and use the huge air currents to blow wizards in.
I have to ask: where did you get that info on Belenon? I spent a good thirty minutes searching for flavor articles on info about the plane and the Windriddle Palaces, but I couldn't seem to find the feature on the flavor of the Planechase 2012 planes... the original article, I managed to find though.
Trusting what you say is true, if the battle gets as rough as the one with Dumbledore and Voldemort at the ministry, which it likely will, given the contestants involved, wouldn't the Wizards be able to destroy the glass palaces, thus creating pollution, and also send the shards flying at Aang and CP? I mean, glass is made of sand, but it's probably not susceptible to Earthbending because of the process it goes through to become that, and sand itself is already difficult enough to Earthbend as it is (this was demonstrated in the desert episodes of the first series).
Here's a video of said duel, and at around 2:00, Voldemort proceeds to do just that to Dumbledore:

Not so fast.... do I have to link the LOTR Wizard battle again? Gandalf and Saruman go at each other with jedi force like telekinetic magic. This happens when Gandalf is still Grey and clearly Gandalf the white is stronger than Saruman the white (as demonstrated by his ability to just break Saruman's staff with a word). Dumbeldore also has access to dozens of magic abilities that couldnt just be "bent".
Gandalf also shows several times that he is incredibly difficult to harm. Aang may fire bend flames at him but I get the feeling that Gandalf would not be effected.
CP is basically just a bad superman... Dumbledore can easily make pollution. He can summon a stream of birds and then turn them all into bags of trash (or spent Uranium fuel rods) using transfiguration magic:
Avis
Pronunciation: /ˈeɪvɨs/ ay-vis
Description: This charm creates a flock of birds from the caster's wand. When coupled with Oppugno, it can be used offensively.
Seen/mentioned: Shown in Goblet of Fire, cast by Mr Ollivander to test Viktor Krum's wand.[GF Ch.18] In Half-blood Prince, it is cast by Hermione, followed by Oppugno which causes the birds to attack Ron.[HBP Ch.14]
Since dumbledore has never transfigured anything into uranium rods and we only allow actual feats rather than extrapolated ones (hence no blood/metal bending from aang for same reason) this is not possible.
Sure he can turn a bird into a cup or a pocket watch but no uranium.
What about pollution of some sort? Could he turn birds into garbage or smog or something?

There is actually a formula for Transfiguration magic. Given Dumbledore's intelligence it's not at all a stretch to believe he would be able to do a different object (like garbage). Hell if you want to be a hard ass about technicalities, technically I dont know that Dumbledore ever casts any Transfiguration magic of the type that we see 1st year students practicing in the books/movies.
He casts a few, but like you said there is a formula that involves weight/size etc etc and a long list of known transfiguration spells. They also note transfiguring living creatures is hard unless the object is similar unless at highest level.
At the highest level like maybe the strongest wizard in the world? Also I cant imagine it's that hard since early in the books the students are transforming living things or objects into living things.
Also Dumbledore could just cast a spell that makes CP's body act like jelly (no bones), or use rigormortus to make him stiff as a board. From what I know it's pretty common belief that Superman is weak against magic... we basically have nature superman here against 2 wizards... I dont think an element bender is going to be able to shield himself from the majority of the options at the wizards disposal.
Vote Wizard Guide
Edit: also... Dumbledore has regular access to all kinds of candy items wrapped in plastic... He can bring in a handful of Chocolate frogs to unwrap and throw the wrappers on the ground to make CP sad.
I have to wonder, could an Obliviate charm be enough to cause the Avatar to forget his powers or his connection to the previous generations of Avatar? After all, it took 3 seasons for the young Aang to even learn all of the bending capable of becoming the Avatar, so we know it is something similar to that of a full 7 years of Hogwarts education, in the fact that it doesn't mean a thing if you can't remember it due to the Obliviate charm.
If my theory is correct, this could definitely render Adult Aang completely useless. If he has no memory of who he is or what he does, how can he even initiate martial arts?
However, this doesn't solve the problem of Captain Planet, mind you. It merely makes it so that his support is no longer active in case the Wizards CAN develop some sort of pollution magic to deal with him.
Because let's be honest folks, if they can't do that, Planet will punch them into the sun.
Another few questions.
Is there a time limit to when this battle (in character) needs to be concluded or could it go on for infinity?
And can Captain Planet detect things that are invisible?
If the answer is no to both questions, Dumbledore can merely hide under an Invisibility Cloak for hours and hours, possibly days if needed, in order to buy enough time to study and craft his own spell that would be the defeat of Captain Planet.
We're not dealing with a Dr. Doom or a Magneto here, Captain Planet will not try and destroy the plane around him until he finds Dumbledore. Not even if he's desperate. So with that in mind, and knowing that Dumbledore has been known to create his own spells in his time, it's not a stretch of the imagination that he is the one character in this tournament who COULD create something that he doesn't have routine access to, due to the nature of his character and what he already know about him.
I will hold off on my vote until these questions are answered.

Dumbledore doesnt even need the cloak and he can make Gandalf invisible too. There are regular old invisibility spells in Harry Potter the cloak was just special because it was basically indestructible and the enchantment couldnt be broken (no detection spells would work).
Isn't Captain Planet himself magical? I think you are all taking the wrong approach to this hear, because this isn't about creating his 'kryptonite' in the form of pollution (which weakens him), it's by cutting off the magic that sustains him. He's basically a spirit, and I would think should be able to be contained/repelled like one, which both Magicians have shown as having the ability to do. The rings could even be considered Horcruxes, and if destroyed should defeat him.
And to answer Doc Strange, Obliviate should be enough to make the Avatar 'forget' their powers. At least long enough to be defeated, although the end of the Book of Air shows that they can be reconnected. The Avatar might accidently relearn a skill, but Obliviate has been shown to be enough to remove even the most basic skills from a person.
I choose team Wizard Guide. Even though I think the other team is cooler.
Dumbledore wouldn't use that for 2 reasons.
It was a charm invented by lockheart and he was sole capable user and it only erased him due to rons faulty wad.
Also it is classified as forbidden magic to mess with the mind like the imperius curse.
Funny story, I was actually watching Harry Potter 2 the other night, because nothing else was on, and this reminded me of the funniest moment in the film... "It's LIKE MAGIC!!!"
I think i'm going to throw my vote behind Team: By your powers Combined. If Captain planet gets to stay at full power, then there's really nothing that can be done to stop him.

Creator
Mnemone Radford (1562-1649)
Known Uses
Casters/Victim
Toke family/Many Muggles
Gilderoy Lockhart/Several Witches and Wizards including himself
Barty Crouch Sr/Bertha Jorkins
Ministry Obliviators/Mr. Roberts, Mrs. Roberts, and their children, and President of unknown country
Kingsley Shacklebolt/Marietta Edgecombe
Hermione Granger/Antonin Dolohov, Thorfinn Rowle, a Muggle waitress, and Xenophilius Lovegood
There is not one example of the Obliviate spell being mentioned as forbidden or a dark art or anything like that.
I've already explained why obliviate cant be used, as to cutting off caps powers.
Poring ruled that cap planet is at full power as if the rings/gaia were present but they are not present so cant really be destroyed.
Ah. Well that makes things kind of hard. Removing the rings is kind of like removing Krypton and Kryptonite from a Superman fight. Can Accio summon the rings, or are they just not present on this plane of existence? PORING?
Okay, well even if we skip Obliviate, a simple freezing spell (there are many) should be enough to keep the Avatar from fighting very effectively, as he needs to move to bend. If you don't accept that, combine that with a Cheering Charm and Aang is to busy laughing to fight. Confundo might also work to confuse him and give him a simple order to just sit there and wait until the end of the fight.
Descendo takes away Planet's flight. Homorphus Charm keeps him in one shape. Impedimentia keeps him at a distance. Meteolojinx Recanto keeps him from using his weather powers. Between Dumbledore and Gandalf, I'm sure they have a way of banishing or otherwise dealing with Nature Spirits, after all Gandalf could take on a Balrog, which is a type of spirit creature.
Funny story, I was actually watching Harry Potter 2 the other night, because nothing else was on, and this reminded me of the funniest moment in the film... "It's LIKE MAGIC!!!"

Except do something like... cast an immobility spell on him? It doesnt matter how strong he is technically, magic is magic and I dont think CP has magic resistance.
CP is basically just a bad superman... Dumbledore can easily make pollution. He can summon a stream of birds and then turn them all into bags of trash (or spent Uranium fuel rods) using transfiguration magic:
Sorry, but no summoning, Fluffy_Bunny. I'm sure that someone as creative as Dumbledore could come up with something similar though!
If my theory is correct, this could definitely render Adult Aang completely useless. If he has no memory of who he is or what he does, how can he even initiate martial arts?
This would work! He'd still have to get close enough to use Obliviate on Aang though... still, I wonder how his past lives would react to him suddenly losing his memory...

Actually, Obliviate wasn't Lockhart's invension; he was just exceptionally good at it (because he sucked at everything else).
Also, there are only three forbidden curses. Sure, Dumbledore definitely won't use them here, but Obliviate isn't one of them.
I think you mean the one Lockhart accidentally cast on himself was the only permanent one. Just because Dumbledore was good at everything, doesn't mean he was the best at everything. Snape was arguably just as good, if not better, at legilimens and potions-making, and there are various forms of magic that Dumbledore humbly admits that other wizards like Voldemort are better than him at (though that may either be modesty, or the fact that he doesn't feel the need to, or because he doesn't do Dark Magic, or all of the above).
Ah. Well that makes things kind of hard. Removing the rings is kind of like removing Krypton and Kryptonite from a Superman fight. Can Accio summon the rings, or are they just not present on this plane of existence? PORING?
No, they are not present here, nor are the Planeteers. Then again, CP's weakness is the easiest to exploit in arguably the entire tournament. Gandalf setting the grass on fire would trigger pollution, for example.

Notes:
Since Aang and CP are trailing behind, I'd like to point out that even if CP were to somehow be weakned by a creative pollution solution by our two classic wizards, our resident Avatar can use his powers to heal CP by blasting him with pure fire, or immersing him in pure earth, for example. So you'll probably need to get rid of Aang first before taking on CP.
While there were many solutions given to dispose of Aang, let's not forget that the Avatar State can still trigger as a defense mechanism. If Aang were to suddenly lose his memory to Obliviate, for example, I'd wager the Avatar Spirit would sense his life is in danger and thus trigger Aang's most powerful ability (even if he doesn't remember who he is). How will the Wizards contend with that, then?

Not sure if CP has bones... not to mention he's also pretty much magical himself.

Nope. The rules specify no time limits. It could theoretically go on until infinity, but then, starvation and old age do kick in.
To my knowledge, CP has never done such a thing.

[W]FREE STONEFORGE MYSTIC and JACE THE MINDSCULPTOR[/W]
I participate yearly in a survival challenge in which I am dropped off in the wilderness with 1 days rations, a knife, and no other supplies, and have to find my way home. This is typically several weeks hiking from civilization.
I have personally killed several bears in the course of this challenge, with the use of snares and other traps.
My vote is on team BYPC for this one. If they make Aang lose his memory then not only would the avatar state trigger but I believe one of his past lives can take over for him. If Dumbledore wants to succeed using that plan he will have to cast it well over 1,000 times.
I understand the transmutation and charm spells that Dumbledore could use as part of an strategy but Aang (which no one has brought up too much), is able to stop floods, split continents and command lava; I highly doubt any spell Dumbledore or Gandalf can cast could effectively deal with a nature disaster (but I am not saying Aang would go all in).
Now, would energy bend seal the Wizards magic?
Usually Dumbledore and Gandalf fought against enemies that were anthropomorphic with average human speed and both Aang and Cap have super human speed. We've seen Aang (even in child form) run past enemies and leave them just standing there dumbfounded, I dont say they wouldnt react just that their spells wouldnt hit a target that easily.
Now if Aang gets angry...well...I dont think the wizards could stop a quake or tidal wave

That's against the rules because Aang would not be the one fighting anymore it would be one of the previous avatars.

Sorry poring, my reasoning is that Dumbledore would be able to wipe Aangs memory and then there would be nothing stopping the two wizards from abusing CP's weakness.

Aang is no sitting duck, Ive seen many mages with the same shooting skills as Storm Troopers so I dont feel that confident that they'll hit either of them that easily, even if its Dumbledore.
Now, could a shield of water/rock/air prevent or deflect a spell?
Rock would probably stop it maybe water but air I don't see stopping his spell.
Dumbledore was the transfiguration teacher before he was headmaster so i could see him turning the shield into something that wouldn't be able to stop his spells
Dumbledore also is able to apparate at will in the middle of combat so it isn't to big of a stretch that he gets a sneak attack off.
Also Gandalf is still very powerful yet severely underestimated threat. He is the LOTR universes Michael to Sauron's Lucifer. The only reason that he doesn't do more in the stories is because he wasn't sent to middle earth to solve everyone's problems, he was sent to guide mankind into solving their own problems.
He may be able to use word of power(I don't know its proper name I only know what the games calls it) like he did on the bridge of Khazadum, only better since this is Gandalf the White, to bust a hole in the rock shield. During his fight with the Balrog he also summoned lightning to enhance his sword, that could probably put a hole in the rock shield and harm Aang severely if he's in his water shield.
Fighting in: The Windriddle Palaces (Belenon)

You think they shouldn't have won last round? Honestly, I think they've deserved to win every round they've fought. Sure, the Fight on Mirrodin probably should've turned the other way, but honestly, I thought they deserved to win Last round as well, considering ya know, Living Plane and such...

How well do you do against one?
What about pollution of some sort? Could he turn birds into garbage or smog or something?
Merged double post. If you notice something you want to respond to or realize you've forgotten something, just click 'edit' in the bottom-right hand corner of your post rather than double posting. -Jay13x
-Myself.
Dumbledore doesnt even need the cloak and he can make Gandalf invisible too. There are regular old invisibility spells in Harry Potter the cloak was just special because it was basically indestructible and the enchantment couldnt be broken (no detection spells would work).

I think i'm going to throw my vote behind Team: By your powers Combined. If Captain planet gets to stay at full power, then there's really nothing that can be done to stop him.

Except do something like... cast an immobility spell on him? It doesnt matter how strong he is technically, magic is magic and I dont think CP has magic resistance.
Sorry, but no summoning, Fluffy_Bunny. I'm sure that someone as creative as Dumbledore could come up with something similar though!
Not sure if CP has bones... not to mention he's also pretty much magical himself.
This would work! He'd still have to get close enough to use Obliviate on Aang though... still, I wonder how his past lives would react to him suddenly losing his memory...
Nope. The rules specify no time limits. It could theoretically go on until infinity, but then, starvation and old age do kick in.
To my knowledge, CP has never done such a thing.
No, they are not present here, nor are the Planeteers. Then again, CP's weakness is the easiest to exploit in arguably the entire tournament. Gandalf setting the grass on fire would trigger pollution, for example.
