Welcome, one and all, to the Tournament of Champions! We’re down to our final four, and are now just a few matches away from the final round!
With this in mind, these matches will last twice as long as any regular match, giving each side plenty of time (two weeks) to vote and make their arguments!
One of the semifinal matches:
Team "Fun Size" - Yoda and Kirby
vs.
Team "Justice For All" - Gideon Jura and Captain America
The members of both teams are transported to a different dimension with all information about their opponents “uploaded” into their minds. They have 30 minutes to prepare and talk to each other (they don’t know anything about each other as teammates, save for any experience from previous matches of this same tournament), and will also have full access to any technology, magic, weaponry, resources, etc. which they would routinely be able to use from their respective universes. Teammates may share resources with each other. Afterwards, both teams are teleported to the randomly chosen plane, which has mystically sealed off so that none of them can escape the battlefield in any way. The team that manages to knock out and/or kill both members of the opposing team will be declared the winner. There is no time limit.
Write ups for both teams:
Team "Fun Size" - Yoda and Kirby
Yoda is a diminutive Jedi Master who has incredible power over the Force and otherwise is a skilled lightsaber duelist in his own right. Hundreds if not thousands of years old, with enough experience in the force to be arguably the strongest Jedi not amplified by a deux ex machine plot device.
Kirby is a diminutive pink blob who has the ability to swallow literally any physical being or object and gain the properties of that being or object. This includes stealing of powers or otherwise just adopting traits that are beneficial to him.
They are together because they are fluffing adorable.
Team "Justice For All" - Gideon Jura and Captain America
Gideon Jura is a Magic The Gathering Planeswalker who also happens to be a gifted Hieromancer, the magic of Order. He is a stalwart man of honor and justice, always looking to bring order to the world through his strength and holy magic. Only after allying himself with a fiery personality in Chandra did he realize that the order he worked for might not be all it's cracked up to be, and has decided now to fight in the name of what order and morality truly stand for, and to protect those in need.
Captain America is a member of the WW2 Super Soldier project, that allowed him to become a peak physical specimen in all things that a human could do. A master tactician, he fought for truth, justice and the American Way. Only after allying himself with a fiery personality in...well, the Avengers, did he realize that the Government he worked for might not be all it's cracked up to be, and has decided now to fight in the name of what the founding fathers truly stood for, and to protect those in need.
Both are believers in true justice, are kind souls that can't stand to see an innocent get persecuted while the guilty roam free. And both will always fight for what is right, even if it defies the wishes of their orders/government.
How do I vote for the team I like? Well, I'm glad you asked...
This tournament uses a “Dual-Voting System” in which every user on MTGS may vote twice, once on the poll of the thread, and once by posting on the thread itself (by explicitly stating “I vote for team *insert name* because *insert reason*” in a post on the thread). You may spread these votes as you wish (you can vote anonymously on the poll for one team, but express your vote publicly through a post for another), or use them both to vote for the same team, or only vote once (using either method). In the end, the total of both "poll" and "post" votes will be used to determine a winner. In the event of a tie between total votes, the team with the most votes posted publicly on the thread itself shall be declared the winner, and move on to the next round. You only have one week to vote (two weeks for the semi-finals and finals), and the poll automatically closes on Sunday, 12MN (GMT +1). Only posts that occur before that time will be counted as valid votes.
Now, who wins this match? Root for your favorites now!

I participate yearly in a survival challenge in which I am dropped off in the wilderness with 1 days rations, a knife, and no other supplies, and have to find my way home. This is typically several weeks hiking from civilization.
I have personally killed several bears in the course of this challenge, with the use of snares and other traps.
I think Fun Size outpowers Justice, here. Can you imagine a Planeswalker Kirby? I don't think Cap had what it takes to go against a Jura copy AND Yoda. Let alone Yoda, himself. I think Gideon would be an interesting fight against Yoda but I also don't see Cap standing up to Kirbyon Jura. Vote is for Fun Size.

Dude, Celestial Flare, kills Kirby...
Gideon and Captain are likely the ONLY ones In this tournament who could've, ya know, ACTUALLY beaten CG, and BTW, Magical Whip which Gideon could Wrap around Kirby to avoid being sucked up...
Vote: Justice for All...
And Lightsaber vs. Vibranium... Remember, Vibroblades In star wars are made of a similar material and REGULARLY deflect Lightsaber shots... Cap's shield would be able to stand up to it.
Plus, Anyone see the Crossover where Captian America has a Lightsaber and Fights Darth Vader?

The poll seems to favor "Fun Size" as of now, so I'll throw an argument in support of "Justice of All". Let's not forget that Gideon can enhance Captain America's abilities through white magic as well, giving him an extra boost for the battle. Also, that shield should do him some good versus the lightsaber... I've heard there was a Star Wars/Marvel crossover somewhere, though I've never actually seen it, yet evidence presented from former battles compels me to think that Captain America's shield is superior to a blast door, which can, at the least, delay a lightsaber for a while.
Reminder: The semifinal matches will last for two weeks instead of one, so there is plenty of time (double as much, in fact) to research, make your cases, and vote! Take your time!

Fun Size wins. Infact the more abilities Jideon gives Cap, the worse it gets because Kirby straight eats him and gains those powers. It also gets around any Indestructibility shenanigans.
So is it pretty well established that captain america's shield can withstand a lightsaber hit? I think this makes a big difference in the fight.
Also, do we really need 2 weeks for these matches? I get that its the last few matches and all, but it seems most people make up there minds pretty fast on these fights.
Let's start with Kirby. He a tough little guy and the Captain's probably never faced someone quite like this before. Certainly his shield does nothing to protect him from Kirby's vacuum mouth, especially if Kirby absorbed his teammates powers before the match began. However, I think Gideon's magic would be enough to overcome and defeat Kirby, or at least detain him.
But then there's Yoda. He's just too fast. Gideon has no great defence against the lightsaber, at least not for prolonged periods of time. Captain America's shield will surely help, but he has no counter to the force and no real way of hurting the little muppet. Without Gideon's magic to help slow Yoda down, Cap would be completely outclassed.
I think Team Justice's only chance is for Yoda to get tied up with the Captain for a time. If Gideon can quickly defeat Kirby, both of them together should be enough to take on the Jedi Master. Unfortunately, I don't see them determining the fight. Yoda will. He's the fastest and knows enough about his opponents to go after the magic-user.
So what else have we got? Gideon will put up a good fight and have some temporary protection given the buffs and shields he put up before the match. That might give him enough time to hit Yoda with a spell to blind him to anything but Gideon himself, or otherwise confuse or slow him down. Maybe that could give Cap a chance to put a bullet in Yoda's back. Two problems with that though: 1) I doubt a spell like that would work on someone so completely in control of themselves, and 2) Cap's going to have his hands full; he's probably already in Kirby's belly at this point.

Yeah, But Cap can just bash Yoda in the skull with his Shield once he starts going for Gideon. Or Gideon can just cast Celestial Flare on him...

How does Cap hit Yoda with his shield when the best of the best can't hit him with a sword or a laser gun?
You really like Celestial Flare. Can you describe exactly how that spell is cast in-story? I assure you that Gideon is not capable of flat-out killing anyone and anything that attacks someone. Besides, you think a Jedi Master like Yoda is going to get aggressive enough to allow that spell to work? He'll be completely calm and focused the entire time. Like always.

Ok, how about -

That does the job, right?
Basically, Gideon has Planar Cleansing... I think we ALL know how that spell works...

Welcome to card design. Gideon cannot cast a spell powerful enough to vaporize everyone present in-story. Besides, the two planeswalkers (players) are still alive after all that. Clearly he's incapable of killing someone outside of combat unless they're a magical construct, right?
No. That's just one of many ridiculous conclusions you can draw by looking only at the cards. Don't do it.
If you want an idea of what Gideon can do and who Gideon is, check the wiki instead of his card text. He's pretty far from an all-powerful mage who can level a battlefield on a whim.
If the diminuitive Kirby were to swallow Sir Gideon, I could see him gaining access to white magics of Hieromancy, the very spells I continue to remind people of in these versus battles, but sadly, my words are ignored.
However, if he were to swallow Steve Rogers, even a magically enhanced Steve Rogers, what would he gain?
As far as I know, this Kirby only gains one singular ability from each person he swallows, so if we're to assume that he can even swallow Captain America (no word on whether his shield could resist the suction force), than how do we know he gets ALL of Mr. Roger's abilities?
Is Yoda known as being able to reverse the magics of another force wielder? Could he disenchant any Hieromancy that Gideon conjures up to prevent Kirby from striking?
If not, from there it is possible that all would be needed would be for Captain to close the gap in range and as someone less eloquently mentioned "Bash Yoda's skull in" while Gideon keeps Kirby from being able to attack, block or use activated abilities with Arrest.

Hmm... so if Kirby swallowed Gideon both would be Hierophants? I guess Kirby would HAVE to swallow him because if he didnt they would be into big problems.
I am afraid Arresting Yoda would end up in Justice For All taking the cake as I dont think Kirby has any means of getting rid of enchantments or spells.

Well, we've already established in previous threads that there are materials in the SW universe that can successfully deflect a lightsaber, and that a sufficiently thick blast door would at least pose some resistance to it. This is the same shield that can block a direct hit from Thor's hammer (as seen in the Avengers film), so it can be argued that because Cap's shield is clearly more durable than a blast door that Thor could easily smash open with Mjolnir, it can deflect a lightsaber.
Also, there are only two rounds left, this one and the semi-finals, so I think it's only fair that we give the teams that lasted this long enough time to make the debates and matches conclusive. Of course, if we find out that it is too long, I can always cut it short and make sure the finals won't last that much longer either. Still, we have four matches this week, and I want to see if participation would raise if there were enough time to vote in all four threads, so... we'll see.

As Doctor Strange mentioned (you know, whenever he posts, I can't help but have the mental image of him swooping in from above, lending us his wise opinion, and then zooming off to save the world right after; it's pretty cool :)) let's not forget that Gideon's law-magic could be vital in detaining Kirby and Yoda. Much like Kirby's strength comes from bypassing any invulnerabilities through his absorbing power, Gideon can render otherwise unbeatable opponents helpless through the magic of law.
Also, Captain America might not have that many tricks to use on Yoda, but I do think that the shield can block a lightsaber, so I see him protecting Gideon while he works his magic instead of confronting Yoda and Kirba head on. Being a strategist, Captain America will know when it is best to defend or attack, and seeing that in this case a battle with either Kirby or Yoda could lead to a loss, his best strategic hope is to stick to Gideon and block any incoming projectiles or thrown lightsabers, or sacrifice himself into Kirby's gaping maw while Gideon casts his enchantments.

IF Gideon is capable of making a planar cleanse at any given time, then why did he had to flee from Zendikar?
Ulamog is indestructible but in all honesty I'm going to have to hold my vote on this one. Any sort of equipment that Kirby gains from captain can be dealt with by Gideon.

I vote Fun Size, could be convinced otherwise if there's a strong argument that could be made in favor of Cap. America, as I think he's the weakest link right now.
Well knowing the threat that kirby is, I don't see why Gideon wouldn't start off with an oust and be done with him then it comes down to a showdown between captain america and yoda while gideon charges mana for a planar cleansing when kirby comes back.
Kirby absorbs Yoda during the prep-time. I just don't see how team Justice beats that.
Yoda is easily a match for any one of them. Yoda-Kirby is probably weak enough for either Justice teammate to fight to a standstill, but sooner or later Yoda is going to chop one of them in half and go for the kill vs the other.

Yes, but Cap's shield can deflect Lightsaber blows, and Gideon's Hieromancy can keep both of them at bay to where they wouldn't land a blow... All the while charging up a Planar Cleansing...

Yoda fights (and beats) opponents capable of deflecting lightsaber blades on a regular basis. It's not like it's nothing he's ever seen before. Besides, that lightsaber isn't Yoda's only weapon. He can use the force.
Gideon has to gather mana to cast his spells. Yoda can use the force to pull and push him around the arena (which is an amusing tactic in Battlefront, incidentally) to disrupt his casting.

How is he focusing on using the force if he's in melee with Cap? Plus, a good Oust and Kirby leaves for a while. that seems like something Gideon would be able to cast pretty easily. Or he could use his "attack me" ability and turn Indestructible while Cap takes out Yoda.
All the while charging up for his ultimate...

I have to agree once again, that the combination of Kirby and yoda is quite strong. Cap isn't going to do much in this fight as he should be easily (relatively speaking) defeated with a combination of force powers and lightsaber use (shield wont do him much good, if he is unable to move, or at least move his arm). And as quick as cap is, I simply view yoda as being faster, as well.
Inevitably it comes down to Gideon trying to hold off two jedi (After Kirby absorb's yoda obviously), and with the ability for Kirby to potentially absorb Gideon, it could turn into quite the standoff, though with it still ending up likely being a 2 vs 1. In the end, though Gideon will put up a good fight, I see team fun size taking this.
Vote: Team Fun Size.

How well do you do against one?
So, Vote Team Fun Size.

Ok, how about -
-15 - Exile all other permanents
That does the job, right?
Basically, Gideon has Planar Cleansing... I think we ALL know how that spell works...

Wouldn't Gideon have to work his way up to his ultimate first? Mechanically, he can't just do it immediately and win the fight.

If you want an idea of what Gideon can do and who Gideon is, check the wiki instead of his card text. He's pretty far from an all-powerful mage who can level a battlefield on a whim.

Vote: Team Justice For All
-Myself.
Hmm... so if Kirby swallowed Gideon both would be Hierophants?

Still, we have four matches this week, and I want to see if participation would raise if there were enough time to vote in all four threads, so... we'll see.

Notes:
How well do you do against one?
Ulamog is indestructible but in all honesty I'm going to have to hold my vote on this one. Any sort of equipment that Kirby gains from captain can be dealt with by Gideon.
Celestial Flare works, also he exiles not destroys.
I vote Fun Size, could be convinced otherwise if there's a strong argument that could be made in favor of Cap. America, as I think he's the weakest link right now.

Vote Team Justice for All
Yoda is easily a match for any one of them. Yoda-Kirby is probably weak enough for either Justice teammate to fight to a standstill, but sooner or later Yoda is going to chop one of them in half and go for the kill vs the other.
vote Team Fun Size
Yes, but Cap's shield can deflect Lightsaber blows, and Gideon's Hieromancy can keep both of them at bay to where they wouldn't land a blow... All the while charging up a Planar Cleansing...
Law Magic > Lightsaber...
