Hello and welcome to one of my other tournament ideas. This tournament will be conducted through epic space battles between iconic fleets.
Galactic Domination will be conducted in a knock-out tournament structure, where each fleet will face off against an opponent and either win or be annihilated. Fleets will repair and restock between battles, and there are no logistical challenges to doing so. All battles take place in a neutral solar system identical to Earth's. Both sides believe the other is looking to control their world and their territory, and both sides will have the exact same level of strategic skill.
There are no 'hero units' in either fleet. For instance, if you nominate the Imperial Fleet, there will be no 'Darth Vader in his Tie Advanced', or if you nominate the Earth Federation, their Mobile Suits are generic GMs, not Gundams.
What constitutes a fleet?
A fleet in Galactic Domination is made up of an equivalent number of Capital Ships and their various support ships, all the way down to fighters (if applicable). We will be keeping the exact number of ships purposefully vague, we're looking at the overall capabilities of the ships these fleets can field, not how any one specific battle would play out with a fixed number of ships.
The fleets will be divided up into two classes based on general technology levels:
Basic Fleets: These are fleets without much of the advanced weaponry present in Star Trek or Star Wars. They primarily will still use ballistic weaponry or lasers that aren't much more powerful than convention weaponry. A Nuclear Bomb will generally still be the most powerful weapon in the fleet's arsenal, and will generally only have FTL as their most advanced capability. Examples of Near-Future Fleets include the Earth Federation (Mobile Suit Gundam), the Colonial Fleet (Battlestar Galactica), or the Terran Confederacy (Starcraft).
Advanced Fleet: These are the kinds of fleets you see in Star Wars or Star Trek. Ballistic Weapons are rare, advanced technology like energy shields are common, and would generally wipe the floor with a Low Tech Fleet. Examples of an Advanced Fleet would be the Imperial Navy (Star Wars), the Federation Fleet (Star Trek), the Protoss Fleet (Starcraft), or the Reapers (Mass Effect).
Bizarre Fleets, such as the Yuuzhan Vong, will generally be considered 'Advanced Fleets', even though the technology level will not be similar.
This list might help you get started. (Wikipedia link to ficitional space navies).
I'm looking for about 8 fleets per class (16 total) to run this tournament. Unlike Battle for Earth, this will be a straight up tournament-style structure (with a 'Losers' bracket for a fleet seeking redemption). Please recognize that more popular fleets will more frequently win.
Please post your nominations here. Nominations for either class will be closed if we reach more than 16 nomination for that class, or we reach the deadline of Midnight, next Thursday August 29th.
Nominations must include, at minimum, a link to detailed information about the fleet (such as a wiki entry).
Nomination holder for the Imperial Navy from Legend of the Galactic Heroes (probably a Basic Fleet).
You say no "hero units," but will the command capabilities of the typical admiral (or whatever rank the fleet's commanding officer holds) be taken into account? That is, can we argue that tactics from one fleet's typical admiral will give that fleet an edge over the opposing fleet?
(Because that's the only chance LOGH stands in this contest XD)
I'm not sure how the Terrans and the Protoss can be considered in different classes when, at least in canon, they are very similarly powered.
The Protoss pretty much wipe the floor with the Terrans any time they're encountered outside of gameplay. For gameplay reasons, they're pretty well balanced, but in any of the fiction and the plot of the games itself, it's generally only Terran numbers that hold them off.
But we can talk about it more, I'm not attached to that description. If you can make a case for it, we can move it.
Clearly the Reaper Fleet. Not even the united remnants of an entire galaxy's joined armadas could stand a chance against them.
Each Capital Ship is 2km long with a main gun capable of up to 450 kilotons of destruction. They also feature secondary weapons in each tendril, point-defense systems and a full compliment of Oculus drones for use as fighters. Not to mention their ability to indoctrinate organic species and their relationship with the Geth fleet.
And there are hundreds of Capital Ships in the Reaper Fleet. They're immortal, incredibly resistant to destruction, and even a single one poses a serious threat to a fleet. An entire fleet made up of them is crushing. So much so that ME3 had to be resolved with a deus ex machina because the franchise set up a foe that couldn't be beat any other way.

I'm fine with the Reaper Fleet, as while they are extremely powerful against the Mass Effect Universe, I think the Citadel Races are pretty low Advanced/High Basic myself as far as their technology goes. So I think compared to say, the Empire during RotJ, they'd be a fair match.
How much information will fleets have about each other. The Yuuzhan Vong, for example, were pretty much unstoppable without tactics specially created against them. Meanwhile, once certain new tactics and technology were created, the Yuuzhan Vong became significantly easier to combat.

Strengths and Weaknesses will be known to each fleet, however neither fleet will have anything they don't already have in fiction.
Upon reflection, I'm moving the Terrans up a class and creating a 'Super Advanced' category for fleets like the Anti-Spirals and for the generally insane power levels of certain fictional fleets in general.
I don't know a lot about some of these fleets, so I'm depending on you guys to correct me if I go wrong here.
Their Mobile Suits are equipped with the Same weaponry and armor as the Gundams... Except they use GN-Drive Taus instead of True GN-Drives. However, they have the same abilities including Trans-Am.
BTW, I nominate the Fleet in the 00 Movie, so they have access to Gadelaza.

Oy vey. You need an appreciation for the finer things
I liked 00 as well, but I vastly prefer the Universal Century stuff. 00 had the cool factor, but Gundams should never be powerful enough to destroy a fleet by themselves, it takes them from Military Mecha to Super Robots.
I'll add them to the 'Advanced' class, I think, unless you have an argument. They are vastly overpowered compared to the classic Federation.

Well, I kinda figured, Considering Gadelaza is equipped with a total of 7 Gn-Drive Taus...
I guess you could put the Human Reform League, the AEU, and the Union all in the normal Category.
And uhh, Universal Century is pretty busted too. "Hey, my Gundam can move an entire colony!"

And uhh, Universal Century is pretty busted too. "Hey, my Gundam can move an entire colony!"
Well, to be fair, Colonies have no weight in space and have no friction with which to keep them from moving, and are thus very easy to move. It's just how fast they have to move.
And they needed hundreds of the most technologically advanced mobile suits in the UC (before the bad UC anime) to keep fifth luna from striking earth.

But all but one exploded/retreated, and suddenly, some magical green light moved the colony with speed much greater than Nu-Gundam could realistically muster by itself.
And the only Gundam that COULD destroy entire fleets by itself is the 00 Qan[T], however, its' pilot chose the route of peace. Truly it was the Gundam to end war.

If we don't get some more basic or super-advanced fleets in here by Friday, I'll roll all of these into one for nominations and have some power imbalance rather than have a really small class.
Okay, I have the nominations finalized and brackets worked out, however because Poring's Tournament and Battle for Earth are ongoing, I'm going to hold off the start of this to avoid flooding the forum.
