any tips on rebuilding trust with people i know?
Swirlingthedrain, Real-Life Advice is an interesting place for your first post. Are you new to MTGS?
The simple answer to your questions is to be honest with your friends. Acknowledge that you acted like an ass and apologize for it. It's really that simple, and it's going to take some time to rebuild trust and some of them won't forgive, but you'll get there. I'm really good friends now with people I was horrible to 10 years ago, and I went through a similar phase were I confused being confident with being a jerk. A lot of nerds have low self-esteem for a long time and we build up this delusion of being 'nice guys', but the moment we get start acting confident we take it to an extreme and act exactly like the jerks we hated. Sound familiar?
More importantly, you need to recognize the difference between confidence and arrogance. It sounds like you're already working that out on your own, but if you want to be a well-rounded person, you'll need to let go of the prideful things you used to cling to. Maybe it was intelligence, maybe how good you are at games, or an image of yourself as a great guy (or girl) that has constantly been denied your chance. Instead, just remind yourself you're a decent person who makes mistakes, and that it's not the end of the world that you damaged some friendships.
thanks
