I can only speak from experience regarding the American military. Had some friendships with Canadian forces while I was stationed in Europe, but that was a long time ago, so I'm not really familiar with the Canadian system. Just general military knowledge speaking here.
If you plan on staying in and making the armed forces a career, stick to the combat arms branches (in this case, armour). Better promotion potential, better military schooling opportunities, more choices in assignments, and more fun (arguably, if you like doing Army stuff).
If you plan on doing your initial commitment and getting out, pick a career field that translates to the civilian work force (in this case, signals). Better hiring potential and all that. Combat arms types sometimes have a hard time translating infantry or artillery experience to the corporate world, while signals (communications and all that) should have no such problem.
Let me know how your interview goes. From what I remember from my Canadian friends, they loved the service and it seemed that retention was pretty high, to the point where the Canadian military could be choosy about who stayed in uniform and who left.
I hope to make a career out of it if I can get in.
a few people I know who are in the forces/have been in the forces have told me go air force over army, is army really that bad compared to air force?
It's called the Chair Force for a reason, because it's altogether easier unless you're going to live the Top Gun dream.

CAMILLA: You, sir, should unmask.
STRANGER: Indeed?
CASSILDA: Indeed it's time. We all have laid aside disguise but you.
STRANGER: I wear no mask.
CAMILLA: (Terrified, aside to Cassilda.) No mask? No mask!
kinda late but I thought I'd tell everyone that I qualified for 2 of the 3 trades I applied to (Military Police Officer and Armour Officer) and did above average on the aptitude test.
Now I just gotta wait for the spots to actually open up

Congratulations and hope you enjoy the profession of arms.
so I was talking to a manager at work and a friend of the family at work the other day.
They recommended that I asked for my file to be moved from the Kingston recruiting centre to the Oshawa recruiting centre since the one in Oshawa apparently processes stuff faster and is more organized.
I just wanted to ask here to see if anyone here had any experience with this or could validate their claim?

also, sorry mods for bumping such an old thread
It's the sort of request that the wrong sort of lazy bureaucrat could find offensive; considering that they have power over your career, nicely asking for progress (or even being quiet) might be safer.

so you're basically saying asking them to move my file could hurt my progress more, even if I don't say why I'd like my file to me moved?

This time is my biggest break since graduating though.
So I got an email telling me to call the Canadian Forces Recruiting Centre in Kingston within the next 30 days.
Since I have 30 days to book it, I thought I'd look for advice on what to expect and how to prepare for it.
Just for reference, the 3 trades I applied for were in order:
signals officer
military police officer
armour officer
can anyone who is currently in the Canadian Armed Forces or has had experience with them give me any advice?
I really wanna get this job
