Due to our increasing follower base on Tumblr, we're looking to expand to YouTube, where we can post videos, especially full-length Commander games. Since I'm new to this field, I'm reaching out to find some information about where to find rigging, cameras, mics and whatever else I'll need, as well as how much it'll cost. Any help or links I get would be greatly appreciated!
You can try and get a good tri pod and just record from your back. Getting a computer MIC and doing the commentary post match is probably easier. Have you considered Twitch? Maybe good if you already have a crowd. If I remember correctly they do upload there videos to YouTube as well.
It really depends on what you want to do. Camera rigging can get expensive fast. I'd highly recommend using a digital camera that can record video first, and figure out which angles work for you and what the video quality is. I'm assuming you know how to edit video here, but if not I highly recommend looking it up first, as it's the most difficult part.
A simple tripod is the easiest solution. For instance, every shot in this video seems to have been shot with a single camera mounted on a tripod, adjusted to different angles. Everyone who doesn't use a webcam does this. You could get really fancy and do something with a top-down view, but the difference for the viewer is negligible.
All you're really going to need is the camera (preferable something rather inexpensive), a tripod with pan and tilt, a couple of wireless clip mikes if you want to record the audio during the game. Most importantly, however, is a quiet but well-lit room to work in. Collapsible reflectors are a good idea if you want to look a little more professionally lit.
MOST importantly, however, is figuring out how you want to do it and what works for you. Take a look at other videos and see how they do things, many just set up a tripod and leave it at that. Just take a look and think about the logistics of how these things are filmed. Is there a cameraman? Are they talking into mikes or is it the grainier sound of the camera's onboard mike? When and how did they get each shot? How is the lighting and sound?
