I'm in the process of picking a laptop and I need a bit of help. I found computer that looks pretty decent. It's an Asus with a Pentium N3520 2.4GHz processor and 4GB of RAM. Now I know what RAM is but I'm really not sure what the numbers or the name of the processors mean. I just want to make sure this thing can handle MTGO and other basic computing needs. Goofing around on YouTube, email, maybe some school stuff, nothing too demanding. The computer is using Windows 8 as well. I'll leave a link and paste the stats here (its on German Amazon) the price is about 485 dollars. Any thoughts?:
So the speed of your computer is a function of your RAM and your Processor Speed. 2.4 GHz is pretty standard for most decent laptops these days, so that's good. The RAM is essentially how much your computer can hold in it's memory at one time. This equates to your computer running faster because it means it doesn't have to reload things. When you're on the computer surfing the internet, watching videos and playing MTGO, 4GB of RAM is plenty. A 500GB Hard Drive is pretty standard, too. Overall I think you'll be fine with the computer you listed, but you might want to do some more price comparisons before deciding.
I will give another piece of advice, try having a Windows 7 PC instead of Windows 8 (windows 8 is one of the windowns, like Millenium Edition, Vista and some of the other failures from Microsoft). Even big companies took it off their system because it caused problems. Microsoft created a tablet OS for a PC that needs a keyboard and a mouse. You would need a touch screen for Windows 8 uses.

That's a pretty decent laptop, but I think you can do a bit better. For instance, Newegg has a computer with double the hard drive space and better memory for the equivalent of $40 more: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834312829
