I'm not an expert at all for TVs but i'm thinking about getting one for my gaming set up and I want some suggestions/tips
Things i'm looking for
-Relatively small screen (like 17 inches?) so I can have it on my desk
-budget (though someone is going to have to explain to me what budget is and what isn't)
The BenQ monitors that Levelup uses for WNF and The Runback have apparently been getting rave reviews...here's a link to the coupon code as well as the monitor model. not sure if it also doubles as a TV.

If you have a desk you can get a 24in one.
Reason is if your only using one monitor for your PC you can get a 24 inch tv that has vesa mounts holes on the back and mount the TV and Monitor to a desk mount. They can average about 60-200 for the mount. Go with a cheap one. Monoprice.com has some good parts for that.
AS FOR the tv itself. Depends on what your hooking up. Cause your 24 or less on the size you don't need highend. If your using PS3 and UP(the HDMI systems) Get a TV that is at least LED backlit or Straight LED. You can find some with 2-3 HDMI ports youll be set.
cost me 180 at bestbuy when I did get it. If your planning on retro gaming You need to also take a few things into account:
-Does your game system have S-Video?
-Does your game system have mono sound out?
If your planning on using NES/SNES/Genesis and such its best you wait for the RetroN5 to be released as it will have HDMI support and upscale to 1080p.
If your using like Saturn, Dreamcast, and such up... Look for a TV to have A S-video connection.
There is so much more I could go into but you need to give some more info.
OH last tip. 60hrz-120hrz and such is the refresh rate on a TV. YES higher is better But depending on what your gaming with That number wont mean crap.
All you need to know is this.
MOST console games are NOT true 1080P. they are upscaled 720P to 1080P
Most Games refresh is so slow The higher hrz don't do Crap for it. The only thing you want to make sure is BE 60 or HIGHER
The connector types from best to worst is
DVI>HDMI>Component>S-Video>Composite>Co Ax>Chicken wire

Thanks for the ton of information. I should clarify my set up a little more
I have a Xbox 360 and a Wii and i'm thinking about getting the Wii U and Xbox One sometime in the next year or so. I have a laptop on the desk so the TV monitor will only be for the 2-4 consoles I have. That's the reason why I need a small screen.

Ah ok. I can see a slight issue though on too small of a screen. Depending on the games you play. Here is some food for thought:
Can you mount the TV to the wall itself(there are mounts that can be flat or pull aways)
Do you need to have all consoles pluged in at once?
If you can mount I say the smallest I hit is 24. IF not then your not gonna find a "good" 1080p TV under 22 that's not over priced.
Anyway the only issue on hook ups I see is the fact that Wii can not be done via HDMI. BUT if that's the only one then you need a TV with 3 HDMI ports and 1 composite(unless you have the component cables for the wii).

Probably not. I alternate between dorm and school and would like to be able to take the TV back and forth
Do you need to have all consoles pluged in at once?
I would like that to be the case

I have the Asus that they've been using at EVO, and have found it to be quite powerful as well.

But this might help with the space issue:

its pretty cheap and doesn't require you to drill into the desk to attach. This will also allow you to have a larger TV (as long as the vesa holes match) and have the consoles Under it to save room.
I do this crap way too much so just passing on my experience of doing Battlestation/desk jobs
Probably not. I alternate between dorm and school and would like to be able to take the TV back and forth

I do have component cables for the wii.
Seems pretty good, i'l look into it. You have any experiences with it?
No I personally don't as I use 3-5 Monitors and TV
My current one is this:
2x http://www.ebay.com/itm/181219691801?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649
and
1x http://www.ebay.com/itm/Triple-LCD-Monitor-Desk-Mount-Stand-Heavy-Duty-Adjustable-3-Screens-upto-21-/360814082651?pt=US_Monitor_Mounts_Stands&hash=item540231fa5b
My next desk build in feb is gonna use 3 of these:

Im way too used to using higher end stuff due to Video recording and editing.
Hmmmm, so I guess I can go for the bigger screen if I get the mount. It isn't terribly expensive.
How much would be considered budget for a TV that can all the things that I listed?
if you look around you could find a TV at 24inches around 150 or less. TV are always cheaper then Monitors.
Alright i'l give this TV buying thing a go. See how that ends up
