I have been reading upon on jailbreaking, but it is far too technical. All I know is that not only does jailbreaking void your warranty for your device, it is also illegal and could carry a gaol sentence (where I live); however, in the US, it appears that it is a legal practice.
If you could explain to me precisely what this 'jailbreaking' this is, that would be good. Thanks.
Removing limitations via hardware and software exploits.
Cheers.
As a first point of reference, all people use Wikipedia. I have read the Wikipedia article, but it is far too technical yet not thorough enough for me. Perhaps it was written by geeks for geeks?

Jail breaking is essentially removing software based lockdowns on your electronic device.
For example, if you buy an iPhone (in the US) through Verizon wireless it is "locked down" and you cannot install unauthorized applications, or get software from anywhere other than the apple store for the phone.
By jail breaking the phone, you enable the phone to install applications from any source, not just the pre-approved apple store.
The justification for making it illegal to jailbreak (from an ethical perspective) is sketchy at best, since it is a piece of hardware that you have purchased.
