I recently upgraded to a 20MB plan with my internet provider. I have a Linksys G-class router set up in my home. I've recently run a speed test on speedtest.net and I'm still getting a ping of about 26ms and a DL speed of 11 and a UL speed of 10. Shouldn't my DL and UL speeds be higher with a bandwith package of 20MB?
My router is a relatively old WRT54G Linksys router. Could this be slowing things down? I just replaced by modem with the supposedly faster version, but it only knocked my ping from 36 to 26ms.
I've also read in places that any ping below 40ms is virtually impossible to differentiate. I've been sort of obsessive about how fast my internet connectivity is lately and I want the best connection possible. I play a lot of Xbox Live and would rather not get pwned by n00bz because my connection sucks.
I don't really know a lot about this. Thanks in advance!
Most speeds you get from providers are not guaranteed. I pay for 12, but most of the time I get about 6mbs. One thing you might want to check your wireless signal sometimes walls cut down on it a lot and can cause packet loss.(which is really bad)
Today, I upgraded my graphics card and power supply. I have an HPE 500y, and upgraded the graphics card to an Nvidia 550 Ti and the power supply to a DX-520WPS. Everything else is stock.
My problem is that when I play World of Warcraft, my FPS starts at around 100, then after a few minutes it will gradually drop to around 25. If I don't close out of the screen by either tabbing out or closing it altogether, my computer restarts.
When I first installed the new hardware and got everything set up, the PSU fan was running unbelievably fast and the game stayed fine for about an hour, but after one restart it's become nearly silent and it only takes a few minutes to start acting up. This leads me to think it's a temperature problem, but I've got next to no experience with this stuff so I figured I'd seek help.
It could well be a temperature problem. Make sure you dust out your case and PSU with canned air(from inside out if possible)
The PSU fan could be bunk also. Does your last PSU support the new video card? If so give that a whirl and see if it fixes the problem. If not you can try to get a replacement.

So im on a sony vaio and I cant watch youtube videos easily as whenever I do, it'll freeze up for a minute every so often almost like it just gets stuck, and so does the sound.... like on repeat. Also, twice when it happened a driver crashed and rebooted. I dont remember which one as the pop-up message goes away... but it only happens on videos.
We recently got Verizon and this only happened after it got connected. I think that may be causing this but I dont know.
It said its the Intel Graphics display driver.... I believe thats what it was called.
My mom is Korean, and she's having trouble downloading mp3s or watching videos on daum.net. Images aren't loading either. I've checked a bunch of other websites and this site is the only one that's she's having trouble with. I've tried clearing the cache and flushing the DNS cache but I don't know what's wrong.

sounds like a problem with that particular website. Just to make sure try accessing it with another computer using a different web browser. If both of these come back fine then try the browser that worked on her computer.

I have a 2+ year-old laptop with Windows 7 as my OS. Google Chrome for my browser, Charter cable internet. When I navigate between different links on the same site (i.e. from the Commander subforum to the Geeks Corner subforum), the new page comes up fairly quickly. However, when I try to load an entirely new site, it takes FOREVER (read: potentially a full minute or even a little longer). Any idea what could be causing this? (It's nothing in the internet connection since my wife's laptop, daughter's iPod etc. don't have this problem.)

Love. Forgive. Trust. Be willing to be broken that you may be remade.
Check your laptop's DNS settings. By default you should be using your ISP's DNS servers. I suggest switching to either OpenDNS or Google Public DNS. In addition, change your DNS settings on your router to ensure everybody on your network is using a safe and reliable DNS (if you do that, make sure each device is getting its DNS entries automatically).
I'm trying to reboot the HP Mini 110-1025 to its factory setting...
It seems that I couldn't find the original format file that I downloaded from the main website years ago and I tried my hardest to figure out how to reformat the whole thing...
I tried to download the HP MIE Restore Image Creator (for Windows) but it requires a flashdrive with 2gb or higher. I have it and connect it... but it doesn't recognize it.
I have a home-built system from 2006 (Asus P5B Deluxe with E6300 running Ubuntu), and I was watching a movie yesterday and the sound went cracking at first, then it went very silent, then it went away completely.
I've rebooted a couple of times,
attached my boxes to the cellphone (work perfectly),
attached them to the front audio jack (nothing),
I did not change any settings.
Should I conclude that my on-board audio card is dead now?
I've considered replacing my system, but the only real upgrade that would make a tangible difference is a 2560x1440 IPS monitor (still supported by my Nvidia GeForce 7600 GS).
I guess the best thing I can do is to buy a new audio card?
Ars had the Asus Xonar DGX 5.1 PCI-Express in their system guide.
It's 35€ but no sound is really not workable.
Am I doing right here?
Edit:
I bought the card, 2€ less.
Works out-of-the-box on Ubuntu.
Sound seems 'better' than the on board sound, even while I only have 2-way speakers. :-D

Question everyone!
When im on the mtg salvation site from my new galaxy s 4, I keep getting a random pop up that takes me to my playstore and its on the candy crush app. It KEEPS happening and I have no clue how to fix it!
And its ONLY when im on mtg salvation
I just downloaded some anime episodes with subtitles in an .mkv format (first time ever I saw that format). Turned out that subtitles aren't hardcoded into the video, but I wanna watch it on PSP. Is there any simple way to convert them to avi AND hardcode the subtitles into them at once?

Tech question...
I have an old external hard drive with a firewire connection. I bought a new Mac last month and it only has USB ports. I bought an adapter thinking that would work, but it freaked out the computer saying that it was overloading the USB's power.
Any ideas on how to transfer 250 GB from an External HD to a Mac?
I don't follow Mac hardware closely, but it looks like one can purchase a firewire PCI card for Macs starting at $10 or so.
If that doesn't work, I've used hard drive docking stations like this (not a specific product or vendor recommendation) in the past to transfer data. It requires pulling the HD out of the enclosure, though.
Is this the right place to ask about computer specs?
My brother got this pc before joining the airforce closing in on a year ago. He splurged a bit thinking he'd get something nice. I've got it for now, but it seems like...not as good as expected. He just bought it whole, didn't build or modify, but I thought he spent a fair amount. I run League of Legends on lowish settings (shadows off cuz they look horrible unless maxed and slow it down). Turned up a lil I get screen move delay. No big deal, but it doesn't seem like that should happen. :/
Then I just dl'd planetside 2 the other day (without checking reqs, heh). Apparently it takes some juice, cuz it couldn't run effectively with everything low/off. After looking around trying to find info on my specs, I'm mostly just glad I didn't have to buy planetside 2 (or didn't go out and buy skyrim, which funnily enough the same brother has played...on his laptop at his school...).
It's an amd fx-6120 6 core 3.5ghz processor (apparently just being amd does weird things with planetside as well? or maybe that was the gpu, I dunno)
10 gb ram, 64 bit system, windows 8.1
^To someone like me (I've used computers all my life, but I've never delved into enough tech stuff to know this sort've thing- all the games I've played have been old/super low req), that looks fancy. From googling the name, I found someone asking if it could run Skyrim and people responding no. This seems like what they sold the computer with prolly. 6 cores!!!! Then again, I really have no idea where it stands. Looking at this planetside 2 list of minimum cpu's (game-debate), it's supposedly good enough.
amd radeon hd 7450
total available graphics memory, 5888 mb
dedicated video memory 1024mb
According again to game-debate, this does not meet planetsides minimum reqs.
So basically, I guess I'm asking this. Where do I stand? Those lists of minimums are convenient for specifics, but if they are truly lists of minimums, who knows exactly how it'd run. I wouldn't want to end up paying for something and not having it work/work well (looking at planetside's site's minimum reqs just confused me, lol). Why can't I run LoL at higher settings? Should I just stay away from new visually intensive games?
Basically I'm running two monitors off my graphics card's DVI output. In addition, I have my television plugged into through an HDMI port in my graphics card. What I want to do is duplicate the display off of monitor 1 (Main monitor) and monitor 3 (TV) while extending the display onto monitor 2. Although, what happens is that when I go to save the settings, it says "Unable to save display settings". Any help?
First thing that comes to mind is go to your graphics card manufacturer's website and download the latest drivers/software and install them.
Otherwise, without knowing the card you are using, and I am assuming Windows?
Yeah, I'm using Windows 7 Ultimate. I just finished updating the drivers, but it still runs the error. Any ideas? Let me know if there is any more information that would help, I appreciate it.
When you download music on iTunes does it capture the exact speaker volume of your computer when downloading your songs? For awhile I had the speakers on my volume set to 10 when downloading on iTunes however when I set my volume to 7 when downloading my songs on iTunes it doesn't seem to have the same sound quality or frequency as other songs that I've purchased through downloads in the past unless If it's remastered in high quality or high definition. I did a recent Google search trying to find the answer to this but with no such luck so I thought I'd ask here...

I don't see why it would. When you say 'volume', do you mean the Itunes volume slider, your computers volume slider, or the physical speaker volume knob?
The physical speaker volume knob since I already had my computer volume slider set to 100%.

There shouldn't be any reason why any of those would be a factor. You may have an issue with your sound card. Have you tried playing both the 'good' and 'bad' and different volumes?
I tried comparing the sound quality of the songs I purchased downloading before with the new songs I've recently purchased on iTunes and didn't notice a difference between the sound volumes. Sometimes songs that are remastered have better sound quality than those that aren't however it didn't seem to be a big issue from what it seems.

So the volume doesn't seem to be a factor in quality? Could the songs you were comparing just have been remastered, versus other songs that werent? (or is that what you were trying to say here?)
Well not all of the songs I was comparing to were remastered but to answer your question it doesn't seem as though the speaker volume on my computer wasn't a factor in the sound quality of the songs I've purchased on iTunes when I was testing it earlier. I went to Apple Support Communities to find a similar answer to my question here earlier however the people who posted there didn't seem to give a straight answer on the matter like you did.
