Because I think the Shadowmoor fatpack art is cool and i wish it would have made it on a card.
Also the Shadowmoor kithkin and treefolk have some of the most interesting flavor of any race or tribe in Magic. Both are very creepy and bleak in unique color-appropriate ways. It's not something you see often in green or white.
Comes from my Rogue Trader RPG character. While the rest of the team tries to outdo each other at becoming as powerful fighters as possible, my character is basically capable of two things: durdling and telepathy.
mine is daniel mockridge from the batman:TAS episode "if you're so smart why aren't you rich?" mostly because I love how smug he looks but also because it's my favorite episode of the series

Only we call them agents.
I began playing kitchen table with one of my friends near the tail end of TSP block, and I really loved how complicated all the cards were, despite not getting any of the references. He had a 5-color sliver deck with (what I now realize was) an atrocious all basic manabase, so you couldn't win practically any game without a Gemhide. But since there was no removal in the meta, or serious stall breaking mechanisms, draws with Gemhide Sliver were basically unbeatable.

I primarily play limited, so most of my spoiler season comments view cards through that lens.
Because a certain game series that is extremely hard to find had a character that I liked the look of, so I decided to take one of the face images for the character and use it.
I grabbed this as a set of reaction images from Tumblr, and decided, hell, it fits the bill. Casual, laidback, smoking, the good stuff. Can't recall the name of the character. Johnny, I think.
I totally understand. It too me an embarrassing amount of time to finally make one that I actually liked (meaning one who didn't look like a Hope Solo clone).
I made my original avatar 14 years ago, when I joined MTGNews. I had recently switched to the online name Feyd Ruin, having previously been "Zombie" or some derivative thereof. I was still using my Zombiesque avatars elsewhere, and wanted something new to help create a persona. At the time, I was rereading the novel Vampire of the Mists. I liked the idea of sticking with the undead theme. "Zombie" had felt like a metaphor for parts of my life, and switching to a more "living" undead creature seemed appropriate as things progressed in my life.
1. So I took my favorite image of Strahd, and did a basic animation on it. I don't have that original avatar anymore, or at least I can't find it, but it was that image - with an animation zooming in on strahd's face, and his eyes glowing red.
_
2. At some point thereafter, still on MTGNews, I decided to make a little more effort on my avatar. I had spent a lot of time on the site, so I wanted to keep the image familiar to anyone who knew me, so I used the same initial image, but went with a different animation:
_
3. This followed me here during the exodus to MTGSalvation, and I continued to use it for a couple of years. Changes in my life lead me to change the avatar again, and I went with a much brighter version. By this point, I was well attached to the persona's icon, so I simply changed the setting, and - prompted by the changes in my life - put him in the light of daytime.
_
4. About 2 years ago, I got tired of seeing the same avatar, and I had always gone back and forth about the brightness of the background, so I changed it again. I kept it daytime, but I wanted the mood a little darker, as the previous light version didn't really fit me so well. So I went with a dusky setting, and spent some real time cleaning it up and put some real effort into it:
_
Now. I've actually been considering a new one again for a bit. It will undoubtably be recognizable, and keep the same figure, but each iteration feels close to being a better representation of me. I've even considered doing a set of new avatars, to be changed between them seasonally.
TL;DR version: It's strahd, and has stayed Strahd for years, which likens me. The vampire thing well predates Twighlight and all of the teeny crap, back when vampires were badass.
I used to have a weird picture of a snake with a goatee, because I kinda looked like me when I was a teenager. But, I had left MTGSally up and my fiancee changed my avi to a pic of my dog, Goomba. I can't change it now, I mean look at him, so majestic.
A frame of Gooseman firing a Gauss gun from one of Sexual lobster's manwhore industries animation series. Ultimate Street Yacht Battle. Its the credits frame.
Chosen because I find the animations awesome and hilarious.
I had an edited Dakkon previously but with the switch to the new forum format the background was the wrong color. So I used Snip to find something new and interesting.
Two reasons:
1. Was one of the coolest cards back when I was a kid.
2. I often imagine myself turning into that when I grow super old.
3. Shade is my favorite creature type.
