I've been using iPod classics since they came out. I've been using the 160gb Classic Gen 7 for many years, but have had troubles. All my music was erased from merely plugging it into iTunes, and I don't keep all 140gb of my music on my computer because I don't have enough storage space. So years of collecting music are gone now that everything has been erased. Apple no longer makes the 160gb new, and they go for around $500 on Amazon, which is outlandish. And for some stupid reason Apple doesn't see the need to make MP3 devices over 64gb anymore...
Does anyone have a recommendation for an MP3 player that is compatible with iTunes with storage of at least 160gb? I'm hoping for something closer to 320gb, but oh well. And preferably something still being made new, I don't want to buy something 4-5+ years old. Thanks!

Happened to me too, got all my music erased off my ipod when plugged in to itunes... I really like apple products, but for details like that, it really sucks
I haven't had much of a problem with this although it probably could've been avoided If you've already replaced all your pirated content with iTunes purchases but it depends. Sometimes pirated content on your iTunes collection can leave bugs and glitches on your PC that needs to be filtered out which could explain why most of your music got erased when you plugged your iPod onto iTunes but If that wasn't the case then I'm not sure what it could've been.

There is a truly massive number of choices out there for non apple players. I personally run a FiiO X5, which has no internal storage but contains 2 microSDXC slots. These allow micro SD cards of any size to run, which means the current maximum player capacity is 1TB (terabyte, 1000 gigabytes). It also only costs about $400 new. The sound quality is also astounding, and it is compatible with more file types than anyone will have heard of
It is technically iTunes compatible, but it won't show up as a device, you have to drag and drop files to the SD card.
As for other brands, anything else that runs an SDXC card can now hold up to 200GB (unless you want to blow a cool $1000 on a 512GB card), and as mentioned above, simply drag and drop your files to the card.
Brands to look at might be other FiiO players, Sony offerings, or one of the many smartphones which now run SDXC perfectly (Samsung Galaxy Notes spring to mind).

I didn't have the trouble about my iPod. I think it's good. Just simply search online, you can find a lot of instruction manuals, and they may be helpful to you, like this one http://www.manualbirds.com/manuals/apple-ipod-classic-160gb-late-2009-user-manual-652797-32.
If you need a recommendation for an MP3 player, then how about the AK120 128G AK120 TITAN MP3, a little expensive but have enough capacity. People are using less MP3 players these days.
You have a lot of other choices if you don't like apple players. I suggest you again to search at Amazon online, you may find what you need there.
I remember having a similar problem with my old iPod touch, except my problem was that I forgot to connect my external hard drive (where I store my music) to my computer, so my iTunes didn't know where it was or copy it to my iPod
I find that most people phones for music now since most people just find it easier to just have the one device
I've heard Sony offers some decent MP3 players, but I have no experience with them
