I am a frequent customer of Amazon.com, because of its amazing selection of products at reasonable prices, and, at present, my frequent patronage of the organization has given me a $1.00 credit to use for downloading music in digital form.
However, every song that interests me costs $1.29 to download, which is drastically higher than the site-wide price of $0.99 that every song used to cost. There are still some songs that are only $0.99, but those tend to be covers of existing songs by different artists, which rarely interest me.
Does anyone know why this has happened? This is a horribly tyrannical move, similar to how Amazon.com increased the price requirement for free shipping from $25 to $35; such changes will likely anger a large percentage of their customers, and possibly even reduce the number of people who use their site. What can anyone else say about this subject?

Whatever the reason may be, it has discouraged me from purchasing digital music there; I refuse to pay such outrageously high prices for digital downloads and support such tyranny.

For me, it is, because that increase in price will accumulate over time, with every song purchased; after two songs, that is $0.60 more, and after three songs, that is $0.90 more, almost an entire dollar more for only three songs.
I did ultimately purchase a song, but it was only $0.69 in price (specifically, Metallica's cover of When a Blind Man Cries, originally by Deep Purple); there was no way that I was going to purchase a song worth more than my promotional credit.

Or the industry jacked up their prices. There are a lot of potential reasons.

30 more cents is outrageously high?
