Simple question really.
I really love my MX510 (in blue ;)). It's amazing. Comfortable...Lots of buttons...cool all around.
So what mouse do you use?
And just for the jeazly heck of it, how much did you pay for it?

I use a Razer Deathadder my friend got me for Christmas while he worked at Best Buy and got them for pretty much half off. Great mouse, insanely comfy and responsive.
I just use a simple Logitech M305. Nice and comfortable. I got mine for free for participating (it might have been winning, I don't remember) in some recital contest thing that my school organized a while back.

Either an Apple Magic Mouse or the Razer Naga 2014 wired. Depends on whether I'm playing World of Warcraft or not. I do also have the Magic Trackpad I've gotten used to using while web browsing too.
Logitech G600 currently, with 2 backups incase this one dies. I dont MMO game, but with 38 possible buttons on EACH of 3 profiles, it helps me be CRAZY productive. Best mouse ever - I got it for $50, as well as the backups later on. Newegg sales rule
Previously off of a G9x, my previous favorite mouse. I've also used corsair's g70 (nice materials, need to work on ergonomics), multiple razers (basically crap), and a roccat (even crappier).

I really need a new gaming mouse. My current isn't as smooth as I like (aiming for small spots can be difficult, since the step size is sometimes larger than the weak spots themselves), and furthermore: I'm noticing pain in my wrist after extended gaming sessions. Anyone who can recommend me a good, not too expensive one?

Anyone who can recommend me a good, not too expensive one?
Tthree questions:
What's your budget?
What kind of games do you play?
What kind of grip are you comfortable with?
(you can check grip types here, but I would NOT recommend a razer mouse - they're pretty low quality and unreliable outside of their most basic model.)
Depending on your grip and game choice, different mice do better. Also, if you're ever looking to splurge, go for a REALLY nice gaming mousepad - it really changes how comfortable and easy mice are to use.
For claw grips, you want a flatter mouse with a big wrist bump on or a long contact point on the back. My personal favorite is the g600 (and what I currently use). Its pricey, but its crazy versatile and amazingly high quality. You can find em on sale for $50ish if youre lucky.
For palm grip, you want a nice, bubble-shaped mouse. Logi's g500 has been pretty much the defining mouse for this grip, and is one of the best mice in gaming ever.
For fingertip, you want a smaller, flatter mouse. Logi's old g9x was the default for this, and you want something with a similar shape (though mice that are LESS wide than the g9x are better for this grip, IMO).
Steelseries sensei is a basic mouse that works well for claw and palm as well. YOu can also go on Newegg and find like, 400 chinese clone company mice that are similar in shape and features to razer, logi, and steelseries.
[
Don't buy razer unless you get the deathadder, and never, EVER buy roccat. They suck and their customer service is crap. Hope this helps

World of tanks is the only one which really requires it at the moment. Apart from that and my wrist, I have no real reason to buy a new mouse.

I think I mostly use claw/fingertip.

Thanks for the advice. I'd love to go for something like the G9X, but it's just out of my budget at the moment. A friend of mine says I should pick a G400S, but I don't know. I use a Logitech 500M at the moment, but I think something flatter would be nice perhaps.

I have a lot of different mice - a gaming mouse by logitech, a gaming mouse by gigabyte, a vertical mouse by lugulake. I probably use the vertical one the most, it's my work mouse and was $10 - it's just been the most comfortable for me. I own a lot of mice and keyboards but oddly the $10 one is my favorite [working at a computer 12 hours a day makes me worry about fit and setup a lot]. ... It's breaking, though. :/

So, more info then:
Since you're having wrist pain, I'd suggest sticking to claw grip. Fingertip grip results in a lot of finger/wrist motion of your mouse, and will fatigue your wrist after a while. If you claw, move MORE with your arm than your wrist, itll reduce fatigue on your wrist and help you in the long run. Additionally, set your mouse to the highest sensitivity you can for general use (I find that it helps to ramp up like 500 dpi every few days till you max it), to cut down on movement - if you can cross your entire screen in half an inch, that'll help as well. Once you get used to that, open up the logitech software and set one of your mouse buttons to "DPI SHIFT", which will lower your mouse DPI while it is held down. Then use the super-high dpi for movement, and if you need precision, hold down the DPI shift button and move around at a lower DPI (you feel like you have superhuman powers, it rules!)
the 500 is an incredibly good mouse. IMO, try the above suggestions. If your mouse gets too jittery at high DPI, consider instead of buying a new mouse, picking up a better surface. I grabbed razer's destructor 2 hard surface, and its significantly improved my high DPI game.
Finally, if you want a better claw mouse, the g600 I use is fantastic - a bit bulky, which makes it great for bigger hands, but it also has a fairly flat profile which makes claw grip fantastic. plus, the 1000000 programmable buttons are useful.
As a last resort, you can consider one of those gel wrist rests. to me, they get in the way of using the mouse though, as with claw grip your arm angles downward from the mouse.
Hope all this helps - gl!

Small correction: apparently I'm using a M500, not a 500m. XD.
Thanks for the advice. I'll try upping the dpi slowly. Putting more of my hand on the mouse feels off though. The extra weight on it makes me feel like I have much less control and that movement overall is slower.

Oh, that makes a difference! The g500 is a good mouse, the m500 is average
While we can make a TON of recommendations, if you've got a local store that sells gaming *****, maybe check them out and see if they're on display?
As you build up the DPI you'll have to move the mouse less, and movement will feel pretty darn fast. And yeah, changing up your grip DOES take a bit getting used to. The real difference between claw and tip is that with tip, you pivot your fingers a LOT more whereas with claw you move your whole hand. Its a little less precise (though longer, wider movements are faster and more fluid), but it helps fatigue in the long run by so much that it really is worth it. You may also want to look into a LIGHTER mouse, if the weight becomes an issue. For a lot of claw and fingertip users, a heavy mouse isn't very comfortable because you make sharper and more sudden movements than you would with a palm grip (which really needs a heavy mouse or it feels weird). You can also look into a lot of mice that have configurable weights inside - so you can tune how heavy you want the mouse to be. And btw, if your budget is 50-60 euro, you can pretty much get any mouse that ISNT something crazy and pointlessly expensive. the 50-60 dollar rage is pretty much the sweet spot for good, reliable, quality gaming mice.
For reference - what was your current DPI setting?

Not really, I think. I'd have to go to the nearby city, which is a half-hour bus ride.

It's not as much the weight of the mouse, but the weight of my hand. I'm really used to just placing my hand behind my mouse and steer with the fingers and wrist, moving the arm as little as possible. The moment I start using a claw grip, I suddenly have to use me wrist and arm to start moving around a decent portion of the weight of my hand and upper arm.
For reference - what was your current DPI setting?
I've been looking at it, and I don't think the M500 actually has a changeable DPI setting, but is fixed to 1000 DPI. All I can really **** around with are vague 'sensitivity' sliders.

Damn, if it doesnt have a DPI slider, you'd be better off picking up even the most basic gaming mouse - you really need adjustable DPI for any moderately lengthy sessions.
Honestly, the G500s from logitech is a solid performer, and a great all-around mouse that you can use with prettymuch any grip. I'd find the cheapest one you can (ive seen them on sale for 35-45 USD), grab it, and start messing with settings.
