Doubtful, at least not where I live. Here in the Phoenix area, a bunch of 'upper level' hamburger places have cropped up(Five Guys, Fatburger, Smashburger, The Habit, etc) and they all put Carls Jr to shame, at the same price that you pay for Carls.
I think that chain restaurants have finally run into an inflation wall. For a long time, in order to avoid raising prices, they just kept serving small portions, or let their food quality deteriorate. They can no longer do this. But if they raise prices, they just end up costing the same as some smaller chain that is not as concerned about share prices etc and can just offer food that is flatout better quality. In the fast food industry, things have reached a point where a $5.00 burger and some random fast food place is barely better than it's $1.50 'Value Menu' counterpart. Some people are willing to just eat disgusting Value Menu food forever, but most people want to feel like they are spending their money well(nevermind that they're buying fast food in the first place), and would rather go to Five Guys and buy a burger for $5.69 because they know that burger will be fantastic. This isn't even taking into account the few cities that have Inn N Out, which offers fantastic food for very low prices($3.30 for a Double Double is the best fast food deal you can find anywhere), because the company is wise enough to continue to be privately owned and operated.
The exact same thing has happened to Darden restaurants(primarily Olive Garden and Red Lobster). Their prices are largely unchanged compared to what they were 6 or more years ago. But the quality of their food has gone downhill drastically, to the point that you are better off just eating somewhere else that is a little more expensive. They could raise their prices and restore food quality, but if they did so enough to maintain current profit margins, people would get completely shellshocked and wouldn't eat there anyway.
Of course, they could take a hit on profit margins by increasing their quality to respectable levels and increasing their pricing only marginally, but their shareholders will never let this happen.

you missed the joke. look up the movie Idiocracy. The only food place period is Carl's Jr.
Something something what plants crave. Also, Hardee's.
I'm happy to live in the city in this country with the most restaurants per capita. I've never had to eat at these horrible restaurants very frequently. Quizno's was expensive and Sbarro was some of the worst pizza I've ever had. That being said, I do love me some White Castle for whatever reason. And I've never had In-N-Out Burger, but I hear they're amazing.
I too am willing to see chains like Applebee's, Chili's, Village Inn, etc. die off. Gross food is gross.
It's ironic, because Subway rarely offers 5 dollar footlongs anymore, unless you're buying 2 or more sandwiches after 5PM..
It must be regional, becasue in SouthEast Michigan, they have 4 on the $5 menu (veggie, cold cuts, ham, and one other one I can't remember that I never get) all the time and each month has a different more "premium" footlong for $5.
The problem is that people eat fast food so frequently that they can't justify spending the few extra dollars to eat a drastically better sandwich from somewhere(anywhere) else. When you don't eat fast food every single day(which no one should do anyway, but a shocking % of our population does), you don't have this problem.
If I want a sandwich like this and I'm out and about, I go to Firehouse, because their food is awesome. It's certainly more expensive than Subway, but again, I only eat fast food once per week(or less), so I can justify it.
I eat fast food maybe twice a month or so, but I sitll go to subway. Because its really not all that bad, and it beats the hell out of McDonalds or BurgerKing. Sure, if there's a potbelly around, or firehouse, I'll go there. But neither of those are nearly as uniqutous as subway. And I don't *ever* go out of my way to eat fast food, I eat it because I'm hungry and its there.
Never understood going to either Subway or Quizno's when the same price gets me a tastier and more filling donair/shawarma from a mom & pop establishment. Win-win-win.
Surprised about Sbarro's... that and Opa! are the two most popular outlets at my local mall food court.
I'm bummed that Sbarro's is going out of business; it used to be my #1 way to tell if someone was a tourist. No self-respecting NYer would eat that stuff they call pizza.
I haven't ever seen a Quiznos in my hometown (Trenton, Ontario, Canada). There was one in nearby Belleville but that shut down maybe 2 or 3 years ago if I recall correctly.
I used to go to Quiznos a lot when I was in school, mostly because there were so many of them convenient to me since there was one on my school's main campus and there was one downtown Oshawa near where most of my classes were.
Their bankruptcy saddens me a bit but I'll probably get over it

eh, its not worse than any other fast food place. Quite a bit better than some.

Though, I did love getting a chicken carbonara frequently when the place was still fairly (to me anyway). Even now I wouldn't mind getting one.
...
Now I'm getting hungry. *grumble*
