(BTW, Hot Dog on a Stick is also bankrupt. I guess it serves these restaurants right for serving horrible food. Especially Sbarros for selling overpriced, leftover pizza that needs to be reheated.)

Quiznos and Sbarro have each individually filed for bankruptcy this week. What has this world come to?
(BTW, Hot Dog on a Stick is also bankrupt. I guess it serves these restaurants right for serving horrible food. Especially Sbarros for selling overpriced, leftover pizza that needs to be reheated.)
My thoughts exactly on Sbarro.
Quizno's quality has gone down considerably in the last 10 years and yet prices are still high. When chains get huge the "business" people that take over try to get margins so high that they remove what made the business attractive to customers.
Hot Dog on a Stick does not serve terrible food. It's just terrible for you. At least the one I go to isn't terrible.
You know, I'm not going to argue with you in length with regards to this topic.
My reasoning comes down to the fact that Hot Dog on a Stick's menu is comically limited to largely corndogs, which are just sausages dipped in batter. They could make the best corn dogs in the world and I would characterize their food as "horrible".

I'm not really shocked at either. Quiznos always seemed like a second tier Subway, and they kept making bad decisions about the menu (in my opinion, anyway, because they kept cutting things I liked).
I cannot believe Sbarro lasted this long. They sucked 13+ years ago when I was in High School and never got any better. Quiznos though, I always enjoyed, but I think their prices hurt them more than any loss in quality. For some reason talking about Quiznos makes me miss going to a Schlotzsky's, those places are few and far between.

Prices were a big part of it. They were more expensive than Subway, too.
Sbarro made due with lots of food court locations. I actually liked their pizza.

Sbarro's pizza was awful, at least in my experience. Pretty much what resonance said hit the nail on the head. They constantly heat and re-heat that garbage to the point where it's just not that appealing to eat. I much prefer Little Caesars; their lunch menus are cheaper for me compared to Sbarro and the pizza is usually of much higher quality.

I, for one, am glad that Quiznos and Sbarro are bankrupt. Can we please topple all the awful chain restaurants? Applebees, Olive Garden, McDonalds, Cheesecake Factory...I have visions of them all being bulldozed. Americans need to explore food from the vantage point of quality instead of convenience and the mindset of "I want my food cheap and I want LOTS of it...and they better put enough cheeeese on it!!"
I remember really enjoying Quiznos subs when I was younger, but Subway really did them in. The last time I went to a Quiznos must have been over a year ago, and the sub was not as good as I had remembered it.
I'm surprised at all the Subway love on this thread. I've always felt that Quiznos was far superior in taste and bread. Oh god, the horrible stench of nasty bread you get from walking outside a Subway. After Quiznos made an impact with toasting their bread, and Subway followed suit, toasting their bread is the only thing that makes Subway edible.
Every single time I went to Quizno's they ****ed up my order. EVERY. SINGLE. TIME.
And what food they did serve me, was just nasty. I gave them three chances and I was done.
S'barro was (at least) good enough to eat in an airport but never really ate it otherwise.
Shrug. Personally, I would love to see Olive Garden go next, followed closely by Red Lobster.
Red Lobster and Olive Garden are owned by the same parent company. Both used to be places I enjoyed eating, but both now serve crappy portion sizes and crappy food.
I only ever ate a couple bites of some of Sbarro's food when an ex-girlfriend offered me a bite of her pizza and a bite of her meatball. I was always pissed when she wanted to eat there when we ate at the mall. Their food was really expensive and I honestly didn't even want the food my ex offered me because it was so bland. Just trying to be nice.
Quiznos never tasted better than Subway and I wouldn't eat at either. I can make my own sandwhiches, thank you.

Quiznos was definitely better than Subway in my area. The franchises have been steadily going away out here, but we definitely go once every week or two to the remaining on in the area on lunch out here. I much rather prefer it to subway in just about every way. Out here, the prices are almost on par with subway with an exception to the 6" meals. Maybe $1 more expensive on the top end premium subs, but it's still much better than Subway. Firehouse Subs will end up being the go to if the Quiznos out here shuts down.
I thought the singing rats commercials was beginning of the end for Quiznos. Absolutely hated it and stopped going to Quiznos afterwards. Still have Subway, Jimmy Johns, Which Wich, and Jersey Mikes near my area. Barely anyone goes to our local Quiznos.
It's ironic, because Subway rarely offers 5 dollar footlongs anymore, unless you're buying 2 or more sandwiches after 5PM..
Plus their quality is completely awful.
The problem is that people eat fast food so frequently that they can't justify spending the few extra dollars to eat a drastically better sandwich from somewhere(anywhere) else. When you don't eat fast food every single day(which no one should do anyway, but a shocking % of our population does), you don't have this problem.
If I want a sandwich like this and I'm out and about, I go to Firehouse, because their food is awesome. It's certainly more expensive than Subway, but again, I only eat fast food once per week(or less), so I can justify it.
