One of the longest-standing rules on MTGS is a prohibition of soliciting (the lawyerly term for "asking for money") outside of your signature. This is mostly to prevent people from posting obvious advertisements, or appeals to send them checks, or Nigerian Prince schemes, and other stuff like that.
Well, recently the internet crowdfunding websites Kickstarter and Eggstarter have exploded in popularity, with all sorts of cool products and events and people being fundraised for on it. This gave us a bit of a problem; we don't want people soliciting here (because who wants to wade through that?) but at the same time, there's some really awesome stuff on Kickstarter, and what if we want to talk about it?
So we came up with this. Find a cool Kickstarter campaign for some really great product or service or something? Post it here, talk about it, have fun!
A few rules;
- No advertising your own products: Just for philosophical reasons, we don't want you shilling your own wares here. If you've pledged to the campaign that's fine, but please don't post your own.
- Keep it focused on the product, not the campaign: It's one thing to say "hey this new video game is being discussed on Kickstarter! wouldn't that be cool!" But please don't say "this new video game is being discussed, please donate to it so it can be a reality!" That's just bad form.
- All the other forum rules: They still apply here. You can't solicit here either; you can only discuss Kickstarter campaigns.
About Frox: for nearly 10 years, Frox has been helping women look good and feel great in easy-fit, mix-and-match, and work-to-weekend with just a few pieces by helping them make the right choices when it comes to clothing and accessories.
I know it's not exactly Kickstarter, but it's in the same vein and I didn't want to clog up the board.
Anyway there is a website called Donors Choose. It's filled with projects posted by teachers that need funding. I teach students in a very low-income district. A large part of my day is helping students who struggle with math. However, I was noticing that many of our advanced students just weren't getting the same level of support. If you go to higher-income districts they can afford gifted and talented programs or enrichment type activities for their higher-ability students.
My school district can only afford the bare essentials. I couldn't ignore the higher-ability students, so I gave up my lunch break to pull an advanced group of students to provide them with some more enrichment/challenging materials. I'm going to be providing them with books at their reading level. The only problem is that since they are at such a high reading level, many of the books in the school are below their level.
I'd like to get a group set of books that are at their levels. If you would like to donate, there is a promo code "Inspire" where your donation will be matched by the website. A $20 donation can become $40 if you use the promo code.
It's a card game based off of Martial Arts, now before you start groaning, there's no walking on water, or crazy stuff like that. They take real world Martial Arts and try to make the game as realistic as possible. There's definitely a Bruce Lee mentality as they encourage you to mix up cards as you see fit, rather than being slated into styles. The creators are very receptive to feedback and very involved, they really are great at handling the project.
And some cool dice for people with some excess money. (I'm comfortable but still debating here on a $120 set + $80 pen set - they're gorgeous but that's alot of cash for something I can buy in plastic for 1/40th the cost even if they are gorgeous and relatively unique)
Those dice are very, very cool. They are truly worth a double very. It's interesting to know that dude got his start making them through an earlier kick starter project. I couldn't imagine having an idea, needing roughly $300 to play with, and receiving $90,000. Awesome break for anyone with a dream.
Thought I would drop this here for anyone interested in the upcoming expedition of Gideon Gallows. 12 days to go, with a new stretch goal entailing a backer-exclusive coin yet to be designed. I'm in for the $65 myself.

My brother (along with a few other people) have been working really hard on developing a board game called Allegiance: A Realm Divided. I haven't played it yet, but it sounds super fun. They've even got an official-looking video! I'm definitely looking forward to trying this thing out when my brother visits at Thanksgiving. It looks like a cross between Magic, Risk and an RPG or something.
Hero Forge aims to be a service that will allow you to design and print tabletop miniatures with 3D printing. Whatever your character they want you to be able to create a miniature for it.
The video on the kickstarter page got me pretty excited.
Saw this game Allegiance: A Realm Divided on Kickstarter, and I think it looks like a cool alternative to Magic without being so expensive. Similar gameplay style with hero characters added on top.

12 dollars is more than I'd ordinary spend for a deck of playing cards, but these are soooo pretty. And, supporting the artists is good, no?

It's on Kickstarter and they are giving beta keys away right away, I was thinking of giving it a try. Any of you already in? Worth it in your opinion?
