Lilianas are quite common here in Mexico. As other have mentioned, most of the names in Magic are old fashioned ones, variations or taken from other cultures. That they are uncommon or rare (or Mythic!) in America doesn't mean they are wrong. I think some of them sound cool and nice, but I think bullies will always exist to tell you that you are dumb because you didn't choose a traditional name.
I have read through all the legendary creatures on gatherer, and have arrived at the following AWESOME NAMES FOR CHILDREN:
Atogatog
Chromium
Crovax the Cursed (really, <ANYTHING> the Cursed is a good way to set your kid up for success)
Experimental Kraj
Halfdane (Only if they've got an older brother Dane)
He Who Hungers
Ib
Ink-Eyes
Lord Magnus
Malfegor
Nebuchadnezzar (technically Babylonian, but still awesome)
Rasputin Dreamweaver
Richard Garfield, Ph. D. (Putting Ph. D. right in the kid's name means they can use it on resumes!)
Skithiryx
Stabwhisker
Stangg
Telim'Tor (or Verdeloth. Picking an anagram for your kid's name is a great way to hide a nice surprise for them in the future)

I...I think you just won the thread... On-topic, people should name their kids after their EDH generals, but then everyone would hate Sisay.

Bullies are easy to deal with, just make them look like a freak of nature by giving them a cute nickname.

Apparently well known Magic and poker player David Williams thinks this is a good idea. Back in February, he and his girlfriend (? different last names, assumption on my part) Yvette Domaino had a baby and named her Liliana. Can't be a coincidence.

What do you all think about giving your child an ethnic name, even if you aren't of that ethnicity? Like naming your son Alexey (Russian name) but not being Russian at all.

The name "Soren" was mentioned earlier in the thread. Søren is a fairly common danish name. In the link in the quote above, just under the piece about Dave Williams, a player named "Soren Kirkegaard" is mentioned. That is definitely a Scandinavian name, probably danish, only his real name is likely "Søren Kirkegaard" or "Søren Kirkegård".

I would want my kids to have Norwegian names, Norse even. Many names that were in use before 1000 AD are still in use today, so it would not be a problem at all.
If I got kids with a woman from another country (like my girlfriend, who is Russian), names from her culture could be cool as well. I want the name to tell the kid something about who they are and where they are from.
Gideon is a mad name. Likewise with Jace (although that's probably a nickname - like I already call my friend Jason). Garruk not so much, and maybe Tezzeret's getting a bit overboard.
Also, hahaha, whoever calls their kid "Sisay". That has to be the most easily exploitable name of all time.

Jace sounds like a pretty cool name for a kid. And easy too.(Although, like others mentioned, it's probably better as a short hand way of saying Jason. Like how Zack is to Zachary.)
Personally, if I had a kid, I would love to name him/her Gideon/Sorin(Boy.) or Liliana(Girl). Then again, I like those somewhat formal(Or at least, I fee they're formal.) names a lot.

Actually they mention Soren Kongsgaard, you must be thinking of theSøren Kierkegaard.

i would call a daughter Reya, cause it is a nice name and is from greek mithology also. you know, i would'nt feel right telling people i have named my son Gin-Jitaxias because he's the coolest blue creature ever.
Think of some fantasy novel/game/movie that you really despise. Now imagine your parents named you after a character from that setting.
Just because you <3 magic does not mean your kids will. Give them normal names and they'll thank you years down the road when you tell them they could've been named Garruk or Ajani or Norin.
No. Its the same thing as naming your daughter Porsche or Mercedes ( after the car. You get an exception if you're Spanish ). Just a bad idea and makes it seem like you want them to grow up to be a stripper.
