For those of you who don't know me, I will be leading the WOP project with Daftmouse. It's a pleasure to take up a leadership role in the WOP. This announcement is pretty important, so listen up!
Daftmouse and I have decided that it's best if we restart the World of Pokemon. What does this mean for you, the player? I've assembled a small Q&A section below to answer any questions you might have upon this announcement.
Am I going to have to remake my character?
Nope. We will be making a new Character Registration Center, however, and the old one will be moved to the Retired Threads. We ask that you repost your character in the new thread. If you plan on using the character that was approved when Makorandy was WPL, that's perfectly fine. We moved the old registration thread to the Retired Threads in case you do not have him or her saved and you're just going to repost the whole thing. Just copy and paste your old bio from there into the new thread, and it will be reapproved shortly.
I kind of wanted to keep going instead of restarting. What new stuff am I going to get out of this restart that I couldn't get before if I just kept playing?
We've got a ton of cool stuff planned!
We're going to make the WOP easier to get around. We're putting in a good amount of City Subforums, which have important areas in the city sticked and other areas in the city unstickied, such as a route leading out of the town. We're going to let you, the player, decide what you want to do and where you want to go more than ever. The WOP is your domain, and feel free to go wherever your heart desires! We'll help you get there.
PC-PC interaction is going to play a bigger role in the WOP. If you see another player in the Pokemon Center you just walked into, we encourage you to talk to them, about anything! Ask them where the Pokemart is, what events are taking place in the town, for a piece of gum...anything. Make friends with other players' characters in the WOP. It'll make the experience more enjoyable. Also, PC-NPC interactions are another big part of WOP. We'll be controlling the NPCs, so don't be afraid to come up and talk to one of them. It might pay off.
We're going to make the WOP have more of an ongoing project feeling than before. How are we going to do this? Well, we're establishing something called the Pokemon News Channel. It'll be a sticky thread that'll be updated with a world event every so often. An example of one of these world events is, "Evil organization executes capture of X Town." They don't directly affect the players, but they do affect the world around them. Updates in this sticky thread are updates to the world, and in a sense WOP's plot. (I do want to make it clear that WOP has no definite plot. It's not necessarily trying to "get anywhere." However, each character has a plot of their own, whether its meeting this Pokemon or becoming the League Champ. That is what makes WOP cool -- WOP doesn't necessarily have a plot, but you do.)
There will also be a Ranger Headquarters in several towns, In addition to Ranger Headquarters, there will also be Black Markets in some towns, where Poachers and other evildoers come and do business. At a Black Market, there will be things to buy and jobs to take on, regardless of your primary career. However, not everyone can take on a job at the Ranger HQ. If your character happens to have a criminal record/wanted posters/stuff like that, you're not going to be able to. You'll probably just get arrested. If you need something to do or just want to help, a Ranger HQ is the place to go. The Ranger HQ is also the hub of information for the area you're in. Note: The majority of people you'll find in Black Markets and Ranger HQs are NPCs.
We're also making some changes to the way gyms work. Daftmouse and I will be running the gyms as NPCs, until a PC wants to take over one of our NPC's duties as gym leader. How is this going to work? Well, the requirements for trying to become a Gym Leader are 2 Badges, 6 Pokemon. You'll also have to take a relatively difficult test. After that, the gym leader may have you battle him or her. It's a rigorous process, but worth it in the end. If you're interested in challenging a gym with an NPC to get a badge, the gym leader will have 3 teams of Pokemon, and he or she will choose one depending on your skill and Pokemon level.
That might clear up everything, but if not, Daftmouse has made another thread for more specific questions. Check it out.
