"Scout, Earthquake!" The rumble of the stadium beneath her feet signaled to her that Scout had heard her call, though she questioned how much damage it would do to a Pokemon that seemed as well-adapted to the desert as Scout was.

Scout was well-practiced in the art of shaking the ground, and Michael could tell. The moment the Leader announced an order for Outrage, the announcers started talking about Beryl's possible outs. This was another situation that made Michael such a fierce competitor--he forced his opponents to have the narrow answer for taking down his team, or watch them fall helplessly, one after another. Garchomp looked like it was breathing somewhat heavily for a few seconds, before taking a deep breath and ramming Scout with intense speed.

A mere ten days after the Mending, a young knight of Valeron and a young ranger of Eos made a discovery that would change Alara forever.
With Scout falling in a single blow to the enraged Garchomp, Beryl knew her options had just become severely constricted. She settled on Trooper as a replacement Pokemon, knowing that with Froslass down, the Fire-type wouldn't be too effective against Michael's remaining team. "ExtremeSpeed!" she shouted, Trooper ignoring the painful caltrops and launching into a lightning-fast, headlong charge at the savage foe.

Michael knew Beryl was right to save Mystic for the end of the battle, the very Sacred Arte he bestowed onto the Dragonite bewildering Garchomp to the point where it whiffed on its next uncontrolled strike, nearly severing the blade from its left arm in its face-plant to the arena floor. Satisfied, Michael gave a round of applause for his fallen Garchomp before releasing his Lapras back into the central pool.

And fire Lapras did -- an icy cold beam caught Mystic right in the center of the chest, the sheer power of the beam keeping the dragon aloft as an encasing of ice slowly spread around his body. "Enough!" Beryl said, recalling her Pokemon -- and by that gesture, forfeiting the match. "The match is yours, Master Michael. You earned it." She turned away from the crowd and lowered her helmet tighter onto her head, hoping that her friends couldn't see her face, red with shame.
While the cleanup crew was working on preparing Centre Stadium for the finals, Simeom made arrangements to use one of the other arenas where a side event had just finished up. After the seats had vacated from the side event spectators flocking to the final match of the main event, he entered the vacant Stadium, its lights and scoreboard still on. The former Champion led the Knight of Winds to the Trainer's Boxes, the two battling alone. No gallery, no announcers, no glitz. Just Beryl and her team against Simeom and his team, with nothing on the line except unofficial third place.
Battle #86: Champion Simeom [3rd Place Consolation Match]
Simeom's team was a heavy-duty roster consisting of Steel- and Electric-types. Although on paper it would seem that Beryl's Ground-heavy team had the advantage, she knew that Simeom wouldn't have come this far without having at least a few tricks up his sleeve. In particular, the armor plating of most of his Pokemon nullfied any terrain advantage she might create. After mulling over each of her Pokemon in turn, she sent out Rumble, the mud fish seeming pugnacious after having seen little action in the previous two rounds.
With two tough-looking Pokémon staring each other down, the former Champion knew he had some time to set the pace of the battle. "Skarmory, Stealth Rock!" he pointed skyward. Though it was more like "stealth metal" than Stealth Rocks, the swift Steel-type flying circles around Beryl's half of the battlefield and leaving heat-seeking blades floating there.
Beryl groaned when for the second match in a row she saw hazards placed around her side of the field. "Rumble, Surf attack!" Riding a wave of water, Beryl's Whiscash tried to crash down upon the opponent.
Skarmory's floating minefield of blades deflected Rumble's water wave in odd ways, though most of it still soaked the tough bird. Shaking its head, the steel-type took back to the sky, this time making low passes and burying Beryl's side of the battlefield in a layer of caltrops. (Spikes)
Having seen Ashlee use this tactic before, Beryl knew the best way to win was to just keep pounding at Simeom's defenses. Rumble returned to the central pool, then charged in on another swell of Surf.
Simeom had a sly smile on his face the entire time Rumble was trying to wash his Skarmory out of combat. As much water pressure as Rumble could attack with, the professional Trainer's minefield wasn't going anywhere--it seemed to grow with every pass. (Spikes)
Rumble's third water wave finally washed Skarmory away, but its Trainer seemed pleased with the job it did. He swapped out the flying-type for an Empoleon, ready to pursue the Whiscash through the water.

"Grab it and trap it with your Grass Knot!" Empoleon lunged at Rumble, both Trainers feeling they had the upper hand. Simeom squinted, clueless at the outcome of the exchange.

Empoleon's whips of energy, bolstered by its focusing glasses, whipped Rumble right out of the arena. "Good work, Rumble. Return!" Beryl said, thinking hard on her decision of next Pokemon. She sent out Mystic, the flying dragon wincing as pointed stones dug into his wings, then gave the command for a Thunder Punch.
