Derick smiles, watching through the PokeTool still, "Oddish, Absorb and hurry!"
"Oddish Odd!" It responds happily, grunting when the Phanpy hits it, then at the same time, its head leafs wrap around it and glow, regaining some of the strength it lost when she was hit.
The sudden stop does cause the Oddish, who was being hit by the Phanpy, to fly a bit past where the Phanpy did and roll a bit, ending up sitting down and dizzy. "Odd... dish?" the dizzy pokemon said, having rolled a few times on the ground.
Derick though acted quickly, taking out one of his new pokeballs and throwing it at the nearly out Phanpy.
Derick smiles, and Iron bounces over and cheers for Oddish and her good work.
The trainer walks over and picks up the pokeball, smiling at it, "Welcome to the team..." he smiles with a thought, "Diana," he nods a bit. Then looks over to the Oddish, rubbing its head lightly, "And thank you... I never gave you a name did I... how does Ofelia sound?" he asks, the Oddish bounces happily in place, "Good," he smiles a bit.
Iron and Diana approach the Rhyhorn. They start talking to the Pokemon, with Diana doing most of the talking, however, about half through the conversation Iron starts speaking up. Apparently he's not a very good conversationalist because the Rhyhorn turns to him and starts glaring. As Iron continues to speak, Diana starts to look nervous. The conversation ends when Iron says one last thing and the Rhyhorn roars and starts charging at Iron...
Derick panics a bit, calling back Diana, "Iron, dodge and use Metal Claw!" he orders quickly, this being bad, from now on, Iron doesn't get to talk to wild pokemon.
Iron does however get to fight, he attempts to move out of the way of the charging Rhydon, which should be rather easy considering Rhydon are really dangerous... in a straight line. He then jumps at its side as it passes and swipes at it.

Rhydon are dangerous in a straight line; Rhyhorns have a bit more flexibility than trainers give them credit for. It shifted its weight on a foreleg and spun sideways, driving a hornattack right as Iron as the little steel pokemon scratch at it with metal claws.
Thankfully, big things also tend to underestimate little things. Being a Steel type made the hit fare less effective then it would have been against most other types.
However, Iron is till pretty small, so he does tumble a bit, before getting back up on his feet, now he is angry. He starts his charge back towards the Rhyhorn(How did I get that wrong before =n=), its front paws glowing again, it leaps and it once again Claws at it with its Metal paws. (Metal Claw)
Even as much of type advantage has to play in this, experience(and level) also play a part in this. The blast once again sends Iron tumbling, the damage from this battle can start to be seen on his metallic body(Yellow HP), but he isn't going to give up yet.
Derick smiles a bit, "Alright, Harden up before it can hit you again," he orders, the little pokemon glowing a bit as its outer shell becomes reinforced a bit, the damage looking less sever now.
Convinced it has an advantage now, Whyhorn rampages in with a furious chain of attacks, trying to known little Iron out of the fight. (hp also yellow, thought I made that in the last post >< )
(ooc: xD, It happens, also, Whyhorn? Why not horn xD)
The plucky little steel type holds on quiet well with is slightly tougher shell now. And as soon as the attacks finish, it strikes out again with yet another Metalic strike of its Claws.
The entire time though, Derick is recording the battle with his PokeTool, later adding in an observation to his notes as follows.
One very interesting note of interest is the power of individual types of pokemon. A good example is the linked battle(the one going on now), where a much smaller pokemon, my own Aron, seems to be of equal power and endurance of the Rhyhorn is it combating, even though it is only a fraction of its size.
Not only does this demonstrate individual power levels of pokemon, but also the importance of type advantage and disadvantage.
Rhyhorn was definitely not happy now. Iron was getting the best of it, on its home turf no less. Rhyhorn bellowed and made one final charge with a horn attack. (hp red)
Derick realized just how bad of shape that Iron was in, he stopped recording, "Return Iron!" he called out quickly, returning Iron to his pokeball, though a bit regrettably, not liking to keep his friend in a pokeball if he doesn't have to.
He does realize that if he doesn't catch the Rhyhorn though, he may be in trouble, before it can ram him instead, he quickly throws another pokeball at it.
Derick smiles and goes and picks up the Pokeball, "Welcome to the Team..." he checks his PokeTool, female, that seems to be happening a lot, "Hmm... Orra(pronounced Aura)," he chuckles, then continues his travels.
Derick smiles a bit, "Why hello there," he greets the picnicker, "You up to a battle," He smiles, tossing out a pokeball, releasing Diana, ready for battle.
Shelly smiled. "Shellder, start with your icicle spear, and put it on ice!" Shellder started to fire icicles like darts from inside its shell, toward Phanpy.
Derick shook a bit as he opened is PokeTool once more to record the battle, Ice Type attacks were strong against ground types, he could only hope that Diana could hold out. "Use Defense Curl and hold out Diana!"
"Phanpy!" The little elephant pokemon cried out as it rolled into a ball, a few of the icicles striking it dead on and causing it to roll a bit, its obvious it hurt the pokemon, but she is still good for the moment. (I will say about 2/3's life left after that)
"Now, follow up with Rollout!" He calls out, knowing it is probably the best move she has.
The Phanpy, still rolled in the ball, starts rolling up into an attack, starting the combination.
The Phanpy slams into the shell, bouncing a bit off it before continuing its Roll out, after a moment turns around, preparing to strike again when she gets a chance.
"Spear it again! Try to ramp it off course to stop the rolling!" Shellder's icicles started to hail on Phanpy again, this time also attempting to steer it into some nearby obstacles.
Another direct hit(Yellow HP now, near red), but the ones trying to knock it off track just break as it hits them and continues on a collision course with the Shelder.
Shellder takes a rather powerful attack, and is knocked backward. Shelly recalls it and approaches you with a smile. "That was a good battle. You earned this one."
Congrats, you beat Picnicker Shelly! You receive 200p, and Phanpy gains +4 experience.
Derick grins a bit more, yet another pokemon to get scans of. He quickly asks the backpacker if they would be up for a match, and upon hearing the answer, he calls out Iron once more for combat.
Iron makes a noise of approval, then to start things off, his armor gleams a bit and becomes a bit more solid. (Harden)
"Oddish Odd!" It responds happily, grunting when the Phanpy hits it, then at the same time, its head leafs wrap around it and glow, regaining some of the strength it lost when she was hit.
