"Alright, let's use the rolling technique you practiced with Starly to get you some extra speed. Roll around behind it just as it closes in and get it with one last absorb! We've got to be close!"
As Onix closed in on Shroomish, the mushroom pokemon started rolling around. It's bouncy nature led it to ricochet around Onix's writhing body like a hyperactive rubber ball. Shroomish ejected the other side of the rock pokemon, and lanced out with a final attack, which caught Onix (and Ashlee) by surprise; they hadn't expected improvisation of that nature. The absorb attack connects and drains Onix of a fair amount of life as it smashes into the ground where its opponent used to be.
Ashlee sighed as she withdrew Onix from the arena field. "Well, that's that I guess. You did great Onix." She approached James from across the field, and extended her hand to shake his. "That was a well fought battle, your Shroomish really pulled of something special back there. Here's the Hematite Badge, and $600. Good luck to you and your pokemon in the future as well."
James receives the Hematite Badge, $600, Numel and Shroomish each gain +8 experience.
First, I will quietly let out Numel and Ekans from their pokéballs. Then, I will yell "Hey, over here!" When the two Rocket flunkies presumably turn to face me, I will send my pokémon after them, engaging them in a double battle.
(Battling two Rocket trainers, one with Magnemite, one with Bulbasaur.)
Numel, hit Bulbasaur with an Ember, and Ekans, hit it with a Poison Sting. These two powerful attacks might just be more than it can take!
Bulbasaur took the brunt of both attacks, and appeared to be badly injured at this point. In its defense, spores started to waft out from the bulb on its back as it tried to use the powder to put James' pokemon to sleep. Tim appeared to whisper something to Albert as their pokemon participated in the fight. It appeared the two have worked together for some time, as Magnemite started to emit supersonic waves in an attempt to confuse what didn't fall asleep.
Numel and Ekans both manage to dodge the powder, but do so by walking straight into Magnemite's supersonic. a powerful combo indeed.
"Alright, looks like it's time to make a change! Numel, Ekans, return! Go, Starly and Larvitar! Starly, knock that bulbasaur out of the fight with a Wing Attack! But stay low to the ground so Larvitar can shield you from any electric attacks! If you can, Larvitar, emit a Screech while you shield Starly!"
The tactic works, and Bulbasaur is knocked out of the battle completely at this point. Larvitar's screeching made the Magnemite twitch a bit, but it was able to respond with a thunderous shockwave. The sound was amplified by the close quarters of the mining area, as pebbles and gravel shook loose from the walls and an echo could be heard for some time. (Sonic Boom)
The rocket grunt and scientist looked worried as the grunt returned Bulbasaur. There was another whisper as the grunt reached for something strapped to his back, out of James' sight.
Ack! Larvitar and Starly are both knocked back by the boom. A few pebbles hit Larvitar in the head, but his rocky form protects him. Starly manages to avoid a rocky cave-in fate.
"Alright, now that bulbasaur is gone, it's time to focus. Starly, return! Numel, come back!"
Numel comes back into the battle, hopefully less addled than before.
It's defense should be lower after that screech, so... "Numel, burn that steel with an ember attack, then Larvitar, strike while the Magnemite is hot with a metal-crushing bite attack!"
The embers rained across the Magnemite, causing the steel to start to glow in the heat, but Larvitar's attack never came. The small pokemon had become ensnared by a net that the Rocket Grunt had pulled from behind his back. There was a loud, almost cackling laugh as the pair of Rockets started to pull the net toward themselves, "Muahahaha, we've caught it. Now let's get out of here!!" The pair started to run down the tunnel, dragging Larvitar with them. (They're not gone yet, but they're quick)
Starly was shocked out of the air by Magnemite, but the shaking ground slowed the Rocket's escape by knocking some of the mineshaft's ceiling free. The boulders landed in front of the Rockets, but the Scientist ran full speed into it as he was turning around to recall the Magnemite.
"Alright. I've had enough of you guys! Numel, Take Down that last grunt! Starly, make another quick attack at the net! Magnemite, I have no quarrel with you! You don't really want to keep a trainer from his pokémon, do you?"
Numel barreled into the Grunt, knocking him prone beside the scientist, and the pair cowered under the fire camel.
Starly's speed sliced through the netting with ease, since the bird wasn't hampered with a battle.
Magnemite floated idly by, appearing to have understood what James said and the situation around it. It then disappeared into red light as it was recalled by the Rocket Scientist, and the pair left the torn netting and Larvitar behind, taking off in a dead sprint west into the mines. The miners had taken shelter behind a cart full of rocks and fossils, not wanting to be involved with the battle.
Congratulations, you defeated the Rocket Grunt and Scientist! Starly, Numel, Larvitar and Ekans all receive +5 experience!
(OOC: Any interaction with the rockets beyond the battle should be handled by Raptor if you pursue, and the miners as well)
Murkrow starts to whip up a wind barrier with it's wing attack, which seems to partially work, but the continued buffeting of the sandstorm is taking its toll. (hp yellow-red)
you start looking for Pokemon and after a little searching you find...
What do you do?
Alright, Shroomish! You've won a fight just like this once already. There's no reason you can't do it again, especially now that you've got a new trick up your sleeve! But just stand your ground for now, and let it have the first move.
James was expecting a more head-on approach from the Onix, and so a few boulders manage to fall on the unprepared Shroomish. It doesn't seem happy about it.
"Sorry! I guess we have to bring the fight to it! Roll on in close and hit it with your quadreffective Absorb attack!"

I then turn and notice that they left their Magnemite to burn.
"That's so sad, that they would leave their pokémon like that! Are you OK, Magnemite?"
Starly's speed sliced through the netting with ease, since the bird wasn't hampered with a battle.

I battle it is what I do!
Go, Larvitar, whip up a defensive sandstorm so it can't get to you!
Congrats! You caught a Murkrow! Larvitar gains +3 experience.
