I'm interested in playing a D&D campaign online, through a chat program (as opposed to on a thread), and I was wondering if anyone has done this and knows where I can go to find other people willing to play via the internet.
I have an online chat-based campaign I'm running at the moment, although it's almost over and primarily a short-term game. It's an interesting way to play, but you have to accept that narrativism will take precedence over gamist elements- and it needs to be that way if you want things to run smoothly.
That said, we don't really do chat-based games here, as we default for PbP games. Chat-based offers a better real-time experience, and can be closer to the table-top experience, but it has timing and scheduling issues not experienced by PbP.
As for finding a place to play- well, any given dedicated D&D forum will tend to have people looking for other players. It can take some looking, but they are there. Another option is as easy as recruiting friends to do it- usually the best way to go.

Indeed, the hardest thing for a chat-based game to overcome is scheduling. Five or more people in different parts of the world trying to find one point in the day where they can all sit down and play is a bit of a challenge--not to mention sudden absences.
Thanks a lot!
